I had same issue on brand new gun. Jammed after one round fired, the same issue wrong feed angle on round would not load and as you said, very hard to clear round. Thanks to your video, I now know the issue. I would probably never noticed the stuck firing pin.. I love the concept of the gun but I would not buy this gun again. Several loading, feeding and plastic mag issues. But that's what you get from a plastic gun. I hate to start sanding and grinding on any gun lat alone a brand new one. But that's what you have to do to get the gun to function at all. If you buy one order a Dremel grinder also....lol...Thanks for your video it really helped
I was just following this tutorial and realized that the mag hangs too low as well cause rounds to jam and get bent instead of loading into the chamber there’s another video of a guy putting a mini plastic ramp on the mag to make it go up high all the way.. thanks for this tutorial finally grew balls to open it and clean inside..
Thank You very much. I pickup a new PMR-30 ( I think it's had some factory changes to it ) 2 weeks ago. From all the problem child videos on here for the PMR, I was a tad bit of worry about the issues of FTF and FTE. This video and the Problem Solved Part 2 video you posted should help a lot of use out. The Mcarbo All in ONE Kit, with recessed Mag release that moves the Mag up 0.040, Stainless feed ramp and better slide springs seems like the first thing to do to it, But your info is the first of it's kind I've seen, and I've been searching on the PMR Problems and cures for months before buying. Again Thank You.
I just picked one up and I'm going to do the full Mcarbo upgrade before I ever fire it. Sucks that I have to spend another $140 but to me the potential as a light wieght EDC with 30 ballisticly devestating magnum rounds is a great equalizer. There are very few 22 WMR semi auto pistols out there and this one deserves an attempt at some tweeking. Also happen to have some ammo for it, which these days is a plus. Great subject for my next video.
@@ITZGR82BFREE I just ordered my Mcarbo All in one kit for my PMR also. The video they have showing how to install seems easy to follow, esp for an old mechanic like myself. I'll keep a look out for your new video on it. Good luck.
@@mikes1031 Great. Keep me posted how your upgrade went. My kit hasn't shipped yet so maybe I will go shoot 1 mag full downrange after all just to get a benchmark and some footage.
@@ITZGR82BFREE I just found out today, my kit is on back order for approx. 2 weeks. They are waiting for the stainless feed ramps to come in. Hope yours has already shipped or you could be waiting 2 more weeks also.
Great observation on the friction affecting the firing pin, I'm very interested in using this pistol as my first gun and I'm glad to see you narrowed down a potential problem area and a fix for it.
A little tip, Never use a kaltech Product as your primary weapon... Especially never use a $299 PMR 30 (Novelty) gun as your primary.. Go get yourself a glock 19 There not crazy expensive, super reliable, if that clock doesn't fire when you wanted to when you need the most!!! you were meant to die..
My brother has a gen one and needed to do the same thing. Trim some material off to get thebfuring pun,to move. He did that cleaned and lubed it ur is running pretty darn good. It does have some issues with certain, ammo most rim fires do
Good info to watch for. Mine, like most, seems to be ammo sensitive. Give it the right ammo, it works great. Fun gun, lot of rounds, very accurate, easy trigger.
Keep it clean. Use 40 grain only just like manual Says. Load mag correctly. And these things run like sewing machines. I’ve owned two since 2013. I’ve never had a problem except one time when I tried to use 30 grain. My friend was having problems w his. I looked at it, it was filthy. Clean. Lube. Correct ammo. These pistols run great
Just bought one and had the same issue right out of the box so not sure it’s from a dirty gun. Even after doing research and taking time to load mag properly. May try this prior to even running any rounds through the gun. Just ordered the upgraded spring, feed ramp and mag catch assembly. Going to polish up and install the kit prior to running in hopes of a better experience. Also grabbed the speed loader for what I hope will be a better experience. Sad to see a cool little gun released onto the market with this many FTF issues. 30 rounds of 22 mag is pretty cool stuff, but sure wouldn’t trust my life to it! Great vid! Thank you!
You can see the wear pattern on the firing pin. Between the front two screw hole. I'll bet you can see the reciprocal wear pattern on the underside of the top cover.
@@CHICAGOHAND I realize this, but I don't see you pointing this out on the video. Only that it is binding the pin. Not how or where. Just that loosening the screws alleviated the problem. Thought I would point this out for others to look at if they also see it.
@@melc8049 Thanks for your comments. That is what makes the internet a cool place. At about 4 minutes in I explain how I fixed it by taking some material off of top plate where the pin was binding. Anyway, thanks for your comments.
@@CHICAGOHANDGood deal. I must have missed that statement. Wondered how you fixed it. LOL. I would have flat sanded the whole top of the firing pin. Polished and lubed. How much did you take off?
Perhaps on your individual gun there was crud underneath the firing pin, raising it up to jam, it but on the other guns the more common issue is the feed ramp shape, the strength of the slide spring being a little weak, and the fact that the magazine retainer has too much play when it locks the magazine in place so the magazine is not up high enough to engage the ramp properly for all bullet shapes. There's a company out there that sells a stronger spring a more advantageous magazine lock and a stainless steel feed ramp that will cure all your feeling issues unless you get some grit underneath the firing pin abd it jams. By the way, the firing pin is held in place by the part you just scraped material off of, so I would not go around scraping material off the top of your slide firing pin retaining bumper.
Thanks for your video. Now it’s been a few years , how is your pmr running now ? Any must do fine tuning tips , that helps the function of a new out the box pmr ? Thanks.
I have a PMR30 & two P17's and Kel-Tec Recommends that You Not take those Parts off and you should not go any further when cleaning. I'm not quite sure that your prognosis is totally correct in this Video and You might Be Wrong! My Fire Pin Broke at about 1000 rounds and I installed a new one but It took me a long time to do this because I'm Not a Gun Smith But I did it anyway. We as amateur Gun Smiths can't always be right and assume we have solved a problem. Good Luck to you in the future with your PMR30 and mine works fine now!
I am not a "gun smith", but I have been turning a wrench since a very young kid. I think I am pretty good at diagnosing many mechanical problems. This has definitely fixed that issue. I was never good at listening to people who went against what my brain was telling me to be true. There was evidence of friction causing my issue. After thinking about that I removed the friction. Gun works fine. I would bet KELTEC knows this is an issue.....
yup, just took my brand new pmr-30 to range and it failed right away. So not grim under the pin, just crappy manufacturing, I'm sending back to Kel Tec when they open. So disappointed, I will do repairs in the field but for a new gun, I demand quality. Kel Tec has failed.
Funny how a bunch of drunk Russians can make millions of working rifles in the 30s but we can't kill a coyote with a 400 dollar pistol because it's a bolt action .22mag
Your lucky, My PMR-30 blew up in my hands with less than 200 rounds fired. Company does not pay for shipping or even give you a shipping label. No quality control.
