Great review! I'm so thankful that you took time to go through every setting on this pedal. When reviewing these inexpensive pedals, most people just plug it in and try to make it sound like something else. Instead of just trying to imitate one sound, you went through all the settings and help me realize how many different sounds are available in this pedal! I almost made the same mistake as most people make and I plugged this pedale in, tried one setting, thought it was too noisy (which is actually my power supply problem making all the noise, as usual) and was about to send it back. Big mistake. After watching your video and playing with these settings this pedal is far more versatile and exquisite than I had recognized. In fact if I had this pedal when I was gigging and the 80s and the 90s I don't think I would have needed anything else. Your walkthrough and explanations of the settings was immensely helpful!
Oh hey, I have this one! hehe I have the felling that the tone control is some kind of high pass filter. You can notice that there is a significant volume boost the more you open it
Yeah I'm guessing its the same design as the original rat (which is a LPF) but wired differently, it sounds alot better with the tone around 3/4 with way more punch.
It is called a Black Rat with vintage & turbo switchable modes. That's why it's a little darker than Proco''s original Rat & Turbo Rat. Since Proco still exists there has to be enough to differentiate it, otherwise there is a backlash of infringements accusations at the very least.
PS: i pedal stack boss overdrive and a blues driver ....seems like this can do a decent tame overdrive but has more juice if you need it - pretty handy - great review .
That Tele has Breirly Modern Vintage A5 Pickups which are higher than say a 60s style set but not super modern hot or anything. Akin to a standard Fender pickup output wise I'd say.
Holy shit i LOVE your pickguard!! Never liked teles but thats wicked! The two colors compliment each other so well! Ive actually done mock ups of a pickguard that color on a sea green jag. Great vid
Teles are noisy and I had alot of interference in that room. No it is quieter with humbuckers, I'm personally not a huge noise gate fan and I don't mind noise but alot of people hate it. Did a video recently on the behringer noise gate because it is cheap as well for those needing a cheap solution because the noise in alot of videos seems to bother people.
Depends on your single coils and your room. If you hate noise maybe, I tend to have alot of noise with all my single coil guitars (less so on the jag and Ricky) and I deal with it but for many they'd want a gate to mitigate this.
Depends on what kind of Punk, for your noisier 80s/90s style punk and noise rock a RAT type is great for modern pop punk it is probably a bit too woofy and loose, you are better off with something that does a Mesa or Marshall style tone. RATs were used a lot in the grunge/alt rock scene examples including REM, Radiohead, Foo Fighters (first album is all RATs), Sonic Youth and Blur.
@@JimijaymesProductions ok tha8nks mate was looking at the nux recto distortion too as I have the nux plexi crunch and it's great but bright so I run it through an eq pedal
@@73prd I'd say at least for the earlier Green Day/Offspring Tone you want some kind of hihg gain marshall based pedal, alot on the market in the lower end some are a little tighter and modern some are little looser and brown soundy. In the mid price range you can grab the Green Day pedal (Dookie Drive) or the FOD which is based off the marshall super lead used on Dookie. On the super cheap end there are alot of marshall pedals such as Mosky Crunch (Crunbox Clone), Joyo Hot Plexi (Carl Martin Plexitone CLone). I have the Tomsline Plexion (video should be somewhere) though it may be a bit too over the top gain wise for punk.

its like when you are 16 and you get a car...you are excited cuz you have a Rat ...brand and price dont matter when you got "wheels"......FYI.the Donner Dark Mouse is a level above this one IMO
Davie Allen uses a promo rat as his main fuzz/stortion...and the man knows distortion....origbrats are cool units with the lm308 transisor looking can..not opamp version..
Hi, I need pedal recommendations, someone who bought it here? quality, shelf life, shipping, etc. thank you very much!!! Greetings from Chile, still fighting!

Iron maiden T-shirt, lavender pick guard, cup of tea. ROCK N ROLL!! love it mate. Great vid. Thanks.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
Outstanding demo man. Thank you so much. Im getting one friday. Its nice to get cheap good sounding pedals. Again thanks.
Have you bought it already? I'd recommend the sonicake (review also on my channel) if not, otherwise hope it works well for you.
Great demo man! It’s fantastic value I think. Also it cleans up nicely with the guitars volume knob! Thanks.
This pedal sounds really good with the tone control at right around 2 o’clock like you’ve demonstrated.
Solid man!from the Philippines here mate!!🤟

hey man great video. You did a good job of covering all the features of the pedal!
Thanks For Watching!

could tone knob behavior related to using linear pot instead of log pot? or you didn't had a chance to check it out?

I'm here for 7:40. More quality content like this please.
That's exactly how you should go about looking at lower drive settings!
Nice guitar playing, i like it! What kind of pickups do you use in that telecaster, output wise? Thanks

Thanks! Yeah I needed something to brighten up the colour palette, lavender on green jag sounds awesome!
Is it that noisy w humbuckers too?? Hear alot background noise, try a noise gate to help clean it up....

Great demo, Jimi! Sounds decent.
Do u need a noise gate when it comes to high gain on this pedal with single coils?

JimijaymesGuitarist how bout stackin this lil rat clone with a TS808-typed pedal with a light built in noise gate, single coil?
Mine was 19 American but it's coming from China
Would this be good for punk rock

Hello, how many mA have the pedal? Thanks😊
Im not sure but very minimal being an analog distortion

Does it have a lm308?
As far as I am aware it does have that chip and sounds like it.
