You do you girl! my wife and me are both 43 years old and we still both game almost everyday so does my 70 year old mom......and honestly the game industry makes me sick in 2024 it was better when it was niche and all genders and ages got discriminated as "gaming is for kids right?" back then the games were better and there were less dumb asses
I'm 40- my 88 Year old Grandmother games at least x5 as much as I do, I'm too busy to be able to get into games much these Days :( It's kinda cute seeing her play her games all the time and I tease her- "I'm the one that's suppose to be addicted to gaming!". I hope when I'm her age I can shamelessly get immersed into my endless backlog for the rest of my Days!
I mean the real problem today is DEI agendas sucking the fun out of games and destroying multiplayer in pursuit of consistently unfun but so unfun so as to stop playing to sell skins to idiots. Also my 60-something dad plays rocket league all night every weekend.
63 and started gaming when pinball machines were the only option. My first video game was a coin devouring Pong game at the local bowling alley. I've never looked back.

We're a similar generation/age, also female gamer from UK. I worked in games QA a long while ago and gaming is still a big part of my life. I really appreciate your voice, your videos and sane commentary on games and the industry. I experienced all the things you've said and the vast majority has been from other women. I really don't understand some of these people coming into other people's spaces and saying they don't like it, trying to change the space and then being surprised that we're annoyed. Keep doing what you're doing :)
Hi! I don´t understand why people do this. You wrote it was in a vast majority from women. I don´t understand why women would do this, but it´s not important in my opinion if it´s a woman or a man doing that negativity. They should learn to behave respectfully to other individuals, that is something that is taught when when people are in child-age. Also: I would suggest in general to people to consider giving positive feedback when warranted and stop giving negative feedback. Like the positive feedback that you gave in your comment to Lady Decade. (And, in my opinion: if one person wants something to change and this thing is very, very, very critical to this person, then this person can, maybe in total once a year maximum give constructive feedback regarding the subject to the person it concerns. (Not once a year per person they want to say their opinion to, but in total 1 time a year to all possible people they interact with). In short I believe it would be beneficial for individuals, groups and society with more warranted positive feedback. Thank you for your comment! You've never heard of a "pick me"? Wonder what country you're from? A "Pick me" is self explanatory- it's born out of the idea that all women are every bit the self-interested man-haters that the person making the insult is, and the only reason they would agree with or try to appeal to a popular opinion among men is because they superficially want to try and score a relationship with him. It's a very insulting term for women, ironically used by those who claim to advocate for women, and denies women their own broad range of opinions and ability to not be used as someone else's pawn.

The same thing has happened to me. Gaming has been my main hobby since the 80's, once I got into my teen years I was made fun of for it but now that it's mainstream I'm sometimes accused of only pretending to like videogames if someone doesn't like my opinion on something.

It's quite misogynistic behavior if you ask me. In their logic, a woman should always share the opinion of other women or one particular side, otherwise she's saying what she's saying only for make attention?. Those people don't think with facts and logic, only their emotions that you disagree with them, so therefore you are the enemy, and they will find anyway to insult you.
We can easily start using their insults in reverse and they probably make much more sense. For example, a male progressive feminist is what I would call a true pick me, has no self respect while desperately trying to get laid. Leftists are also the true privileged because they have systemic power in the video game industry to make games "woke" or appealing to themselves. I remember someone told me there is a difference between a gamergirl and a girl gamer. And at first i was confused until they told me that i am a geek/nerd who happens to be black, and that's different from a black nerd/geek where that is their whole personality.
Whenever people say things like that they are confessing to being bigots. “Black people are this stereotype. Nerds (they mean looking autistics) are this stereotype. Girls are this. And gamers are pathetic.” They can’t understand their stereotypes are inherently wrong so instead they just redefine what a black person is or what a girl is because to them once a person is a nerd (present as autistic) they don’t get to be anything else.

It's not about woke, it's about negative individuals that are showing hatred towards online personalities for having a different opinion than their own, or they are pushing a agenda that tries to silence people. In many ways there is so many hate groups online that are constantly doing this towards all types of people and individuals online that it's reached a boiling point for many online content creators and just users in general are also affected by these campaigns to silence and humiliate people for having a different opinion that is not as popular or sometimes is popular but is belittled just because they're different opinions. That is what I believe is going on in the internet by these troll accounts and troll groups in cyber space. There's no other explanation.

I think you have a great voice and obviously, know what the average gamer likes because you are not afraid to use your sexuality to help sell your channel. There is nothing wrong with that because, most of all, you are entertaining. It is also cool that your number one money maker seems to still come from selling games to people. Now that is authentic.

a "pick me" is a girl that doesnt know anything about video games but sees an oppurtunity to make money or gain the attention of men by going against the grain. I like hearing from another avid gamer women's point of view. Do what you do. Do you, What ever that is? The wonderful thing about being a woman is that it can change any time without any question. Men always have to be so narrow-minded. I never like being so.
I'm a fan of many of your videos, but this is your best one so far. I am a man, but have a lot of female friends who get called "pick me"s all the time. It really is infuriating, because it implies that my friends are lying about all their interests, whereas I strongly believe my friends to be honest genuine people. Also, I've been a teacher for game developers, and I also did a lot of consulting for games studios. Most of my female friends are fomer students of mine now working into the film or game industry. On average they don't buy into the forced DEI stuff either, and are often as actively annoyed by it as I am. They are of course then even more annoyed to be tood their opinions aren't real and some kind of performative stunt. So yeah, the insane ideological censorious attitudes we are seeing in the game industry is rarely coming from female game designers/coders/artists themselves, it's comingore from management, HR people, consultants and journalists, who really have no real emotional investement in (or love for) the games industry. We must remember such ideologues are not representative of average female game developer, or even player. Using the slur "pick me" just makes the people slinging it look dumb.

I'm 40- my 88 Year old Grandmother games at least x5 as much as I do, I'm too busy to be able to get into games much these Days :( It's kinda cute seeing her play her games all the time and I tease her- "I'm the one that's suppose to be addicted to gaming!". We're a similar generation/age, also female gamer from UK. I worked in games QA a long while ago and gaming is still a big part of my life. I really appreciate your voice, your videos and sane commentary on games and the industry. I experienced all the things you've said and the vast majority has been from other women. I really don't understand some of these people coming into other people's spaces and saying they don't like it, trying to change the space and then being surprised that we're annoyed. Keep doing what you're doing :)
Hi! I don´t understand why people do this. You wrote it was in a vast majority from women. I don´t understand why women would do this, but it´s not important in my opinion if it´s a woman or a man doing that negativity. They should learn to behave respectfully to other individuals, that is something that is taught when when people are in child-age.
Also: I would suggest in general to people to consider giving positive feedback when warranted and stop giving negative feedback. Like the positive feedback that you gave in your comment to Lady Decade.
(And, in my opinion: if one person wants something to change and this thing is very, very, very critical to this person, then this person can, maybe in total once a year maximum give constructive feedback regarding the subject to the person it concerns. (Not once a year per person they want to say their opinion to, but in total 1 time a year to all possible people they interact with).
In short I believe it would be beneficial for individuals, groups and society with more warranted positive feedback.

The same thing has happened to me. Gaming has been my main hobby since the 80's, once I got into my teen years I was made fun of for it but now that it's mainstream I'm sometimes accused of only pretending to like videogames if someone doesn't like my opinion on something.

a "pick me" is a girl that doesnt know anything about video games but sees an oppurtunity to make money or gain the attention of men by going against the grain. I’ve always enjoyed your videos. The older ones were really unique and I agree with all you have to say about the state of the industry and everything else of what I remembered what you said. I could tell by your library and collection of strange old consoles that you are a real gamer. But I would like to have some more old school videos from time to time. But you do you. I've seen Pick Me Girls and you're no Pick Me Girl. Your opinions are genuinely given and seem heartfelt- that's why I subscribed.
I'm a fan of many of your videos, but this is your best one so far. I am a man, but have a lot of female friends who get called "pick me"s all the time. It really is infuriating, because it implies that my friends are lying about all their interests, whereas I strongly believe my friends to be honest genuine people.
Also, I've been a teacher for game developers, and I also did a lot of consulting for games studios. Most of my female friends are fomer students of mine now working into the film or game industry.
On average they don't buy into the forced DEI stuff either, and are often as actively annoyed by it as I am. They are of course then even more annoyed to be tood their opinions aren't real and some kind of performative stunt.
So yeah, the insane ideological censorious attitudes we are seeing in the game industry is rarely coming from female game designers/coders/artists themselves, it's comingore from management, HR people, consultants and journalists, who really have no real emotional investement in (or love for) the games industry. We must remember such ideologues are not representative of average female game developer, or even player.
Using the slur "pick me" just makes the people slinging it look dumb.

The best channel I've seen on YT with regards to gaming! I can't comment on every single one of them, but of the ones I've seen Lady-D's my fav by far! Even better than her Hubbies;-). So what if you may be a bit weird, so are many of us! Join the club lol. Better to be odd than be a sheep! And as for these people calling you out, one of the maddest things I ever heard was that both your work and Top Hat Gaming Man's content is actually written for you both, and that you are both just faces merely parroting someone else's work! Not that the accuser ever showed any proof, just hearsay. But anyone with half a brain can see what you come out with if from the heart and is what's on your mind.
