I still live with my mom I'm 40 and I have a daughter who is autistic. I don't ever feel bad about living with my parents to be honest it's better since my mom is already older I have also become her caretaker as well and I work full time. People need to stop shaming other for still living at home I think as long as you contribute to the household there is nothing wrong.
Great video. There is nothing wrong with extended family living. In African and Asian culture, multi-generational living is normal for the reasons you stated. It is only in the Western society where they are obsessed with moving out and independence. Independence is in the mind plus lifestyle. You can live with your family and have your own apartment/section of the house. Other cultures adapt their habitat to achieve family unity AND independence. People in the western world are independent but living over their means and in debt, stressed, dysfunctional, lonely and suffering from depression, anxiety & panic attacks trying to do it all alone!
I'd move in with my parents in a heartbeat. I don't see nothing wrong with it whatsoever. I have family in NYC still living in their parents house with their wife and kids; a high school friend there in ATL never moved out of her parents house. Keep doing your thing. Love the material you post. It helps keep me grounded and focused on what truly matters - with some hilarity mixed in.
You said a lot of truth. America has programed us so much! Ive had to move in with my parent me and my child. It was so hard at first. But im so over that. Its been such a blessing and you get to save more much and become such a better person!!
I turned 32 two months ago and I moved in with my parents a year ago after living away from home for ten years. I’m planning to live here for at least another year so I can save up a hefty house deposit as I will be buying a property by myself (no partner). I used to feel really bad about the fact I had to move back home, but then I thought about it from a different perspective and I don’t anymore. If I moved out to rent a property and pay bills, I wouldn’t be able to save up that much. I would be stuck in the never ending cycle of renting and never owning. I’d rather know that I’m doing something to benefit my future and I know that I’ll be able to live a comfortable life by myself in a couple of years. I work in quite a well paid field (construction project management) and I plan to invest in more property in the future. It really is about short term sacrifices for long term gains. I did get one or two comments from my professional peers like “oh, how do you live at home with your parents at your age?” ...I just brush it off now. Most of these people are either sharing bills with a partner, or they’re living pay check to pay check (sometimes in large amounts of debt) with no real plans for their future. It’s not a comparison game, you’ve gotta do what’s best for you.
BelledelaGroove You’re welcome. I know how it feels because I went through it myself too, so I just thought I’d offer about of advice on how I changed my thinking about it 😊 Hope all goes well for you and remember, it’s not forever!
@@sarahhaywoodlifestyleedit7720 Every word true! Culturally, I think the West had a conditioned 'mindset' on family structures and what is means to be independent. We are just now revising and coming round, especially during the pandemic, to what it means to have and value the extended family unit emotionally, financially & practically.
I moved back home with my parents 3 times. I do feel I need to move out as I have no kids and I'm an artist I need my own space to explore possibilities in having a home/studio, but I definitely enjoyed seeing the perspective of an intelligent black woman who has found peace in living at home with family. I'm going to be starting my UA-cam channel soon and it'll be related to topics like this: adulting, mental health, relationships, etc
You're always with a practical outlook in a positive vein. At some point parents need parenting in some form. There are three generations of Love living there. :)
I think I’ve struggled living with my parents again because I struggle with accepting that I “have to” - if I can accept that; I can get better knowing I have to live with them and that’s okay 🦋 I actually like it without shame ; it connects better.
I’m 37 and after a 10 year relationship I had to move back home which sucks! I really can’t afford a place right now with everything going up. She kept the house while I decided to move out cause I felt bad for her that she had no where to live but like I said it sucks
Me and my wife are 35 we moved in with my parents. We own rental properties as well and both work high paying government job. My mom is retiring and will be watching her grandkids while we work. The ultimate goal for everyone is to save lots of money to invest and fund businesses
Just found your page after looking up “should I move back in with my parents” would love an update how this helped you and your family. I hope everything is going great for you. I’m on my own with my daughter and just so tired of drowning. I want better for both of us.
Sometimes life happens we don’t know what the future holds and the stander society puts out there can make an individual feel like damn I’m really moving back with my parents how did i get here how did this happen this is embarrassing but this is reality I love stuff like this you never know what people go through everyone has a story that molds them into a better person thanks for sharing I pray that your find more light within your journey keep going
Beautiful message. Thank you for your courage in sharing this. It really is a belief more people should question about being independent and rushing to move out or be on your own. Is it worth all the stress? Is it making you happier? Can you help your parents while you are there so everyone's life is easier? I know I started asking these questions.
I miss my moms basement. I find it kind of weird how my sex life was better in a basement than it was in my own house. Life was good in that basement, that could explain why it took me so long to leave.
It is only American culture that tries to make people feel like failures for living with family. It all depends on what people are doing. As long as a person is living constructively and pursuing goals, it's fine. It's actually smart for saving and setting a foundation for generational wealth.
@@AfroMedic I'm perfectly fine I got a life I got a house and money so f*** you.The reason I said that is because my mom is terminally ill and it would be awesome if I could spend more time with her.
I'm 37 going to on 38 and don't want to be here anymore. I did graduate with a degree in accounting but still with parents because a doctor put me on Klonopin. very dangerous medication that damaged me bad. I developed severe depression and couldn't do much. I tried EVERYTHING! a UA-cam channel that gained 15k subs, went back to school, etc and oh man it was hell 😢 its hard for us younger people than our parents had it. Also if you you have no partner it's tougher.it's easier when you have a partner.
Living at home pass the age of 25 causes psychological and emotional damage according to some psychologist. Adult children need to move out early to sustain their maturity.
Moving out doesn’t make you mature lol. There’s a lot of people struggling unnecessarily because of this mindset. Moving out just because is really only found in America
That is absolutely NOT true. In traditional cultures ie Africa, Asia, you have 3, 4 generations living together and 'happily'. They lack the superficiality and selfishness and me, me, me mentality that masquerades as 'independence' in the West.
Strongly disagree. Ive actually found healing after moving in with my parents. I wasnt something i was expecting just to be honestly i was running from the ideah at first but now im so glad God kept me groinded and has been showing me the benifits thru this situation.
