Acapella "The human voice as the instrument". Thanks for sharing. Good stuff.
Welcome to the family, Pentaholic!
Thanks for watching
They NEVER get Old!!!! They're so VERY talented.
Yes, the guy on far left did replace Avi, his name is Matt Sallee, he is fantastic, that is only replacement they have made...they do "upgrades" not covers per PTX fans
Also, Scott takes over the bass when Avi or Matt are singing
These people are the purest form of musicians. No techno or other instruments, just the purity of their voices. You like them so much because they are TRUE musicians and do not need the additional bells and whistles. Pure talent. I'll be seeing them Sept. 16th. Cannot wait! And welcome to the Pentaholics.
You can usually tell the year the video was made is 2019 by Mitch's mullet. I think that was the only year he wore it that long.
They are probably one of the hardest working groups today,
World Tour 2019 May - July 31 shows in the US
August - Sept 14 shows in the US
October 6 shows in Latin America
Nov - Dec 16 shows Christmas tour
Jan - Feb 2020 11 shows Japan, Philippines, Australia, New Zealand
And the world went into lockdown.
They managed to slip in Christmas tours in 2021 and 2022 and released two Christmas albums.
They are picking up the European leg of the World Tour in May of 2023 and another US tour in August and Sept of this year. And in their free time, they managed two weddings, two engagements and two babies.
In this video the first singer, the tall baritone (also sings bass when the bass is singing lead) is Scott. The second, counter tenor, voice of an angel and the voice of our generation, is Mitch (always changing his look). Third singer, Matt Sallee, the bass who replaced Avi (jesus) in 2017 and the ONLY change in this group. Female, alto/soprano is Kirstin or Kirstie (rhymes with thirsty) and the beatboxer/celloist/also a very high voice is Kevin. The trio (Scott, Mitch and Kirstie) all met in school, Scott and Mitch about 10 yrs old, Mitch & Kirstie about same age and Scott & Kirstie in high school, all with a background in choir and theater. When Scott & Kirstie left for college (mitch was still a senior in HS, Scott was told (by Ben Bram, the unofficial 6th member, also along with the group helps with arranging) the trio needed to audition for The Sing Off. But he would need 2 more members, a beatboxer and a bass. They found Avi through a friend and Kevin from a video on YT where he was "celloboxing". They won The Sing Off in 2011. Mitch skipped HS graduation to the show, Kevin was getting his premed at Yale, also at the time, which he got before going t be on the show. They won a Sony contract and $200k from the show. They all dropped what they were doing and moved to LA. Sony dropped them within 2 weeks. They decided to do it on there own until they found another label and started posting videos to YT. They have won 3 grammy's, Daft Punk, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy and a duo with Dolly Parton on Jolene. They had another grammy nom this year for Evergreen album, but did not win. They have quite a few originals also not just covers. They have used instruments on occasion and if they do, you will see it in the video. The only exception to that rule that I can think of is with their newest album, Christmas Around the world, the video for Prayers For This World, you do not see the instruments (cellos) in the video. They recently received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the first a Capella group to do so.
They say that music can raise our vibration and when we get goosebumps and/or tears, that's your vibration being raised. And this group does just that!
They have so many great songs, no instruments or autotune, just talent....
I’m with you it does sound pure with out instrumentation
There's an ancient proverb that says; "Pentatonix does not do covers, they do upgrades."
I've been a Pentaholic since they sang their name on The American Singoff in 2011.
Pentatonix are absolute perfection. Scott the lead baritone, Mitch tthe falsetto tenor, Kristin the soprano, Matt singing bass and Kevin keeping the beatbox also has the voice of an angel. In their live shows, he uses a stomp board and clap gloves for rythm.
Wow, they are amazing
For more goosebumps, watch Superfruit (Mitch and Scott) cover of Katy Perry’s Rise (with Brian Justin Crum, Mario Jose, and Mary Lambert)
Cool I’m on it thanks
The one you've not seen before is Matt Salee. He is the ONLY member change.. he replaced Avi Kaplan in 2017. They have been a group of 5 since 2011. The core 3 are Scott, Kirstie, and Mitch who have known each other since childhood.
Thanks chey
PTX is known for its upgrade of non-original music. I recommend their Love Again, their first original published song. And then the 2016 Popspring concert where they perform three originals and a medley of Evolution of Michael Jackson live. Amazingly, they sound just as good live as they do in their videos. Proof that they are just that darn good and their studio sessions are not overly engineered.
I second those suggestions!!
That's right! They don't do covers - they upgrade them.
@@Gwennedd😅
Welcome to the club - i always go overboard w their Christmas music
Matt Sallee joined the group when Avi left in 2017. He is amazing in his own right. It allowed PTX to continue making amazing music while Avi went on to do solo work. The 90's Dance Medley is one of my favorites with Matt. It's the best of both worlds, because Avi's solo work has become my favorite music. When you get a chance, check out some of Avi's solo work. I can highly recommend "All is Well -- 7 Layers Session," "Change on the Rise," and "When I'm a Fool -- Live at Sunset Sound."
Change on the Rise is a must.
I recently got into his solo work and it’s amazing
They have made their own music..you will love it..
This was the first Pentatonix song and video that I ever experienced. It completely blew me away, and I'm now a Pentaholic. I hope to one day get to attend one of their concerts.
Smooth as butter
Here for THIS!!❤❤
Matt is Incredible
Pentatonix makes you FEEL the music!! 🫶🏻✌🏼
~Pentaholic from Louisiana
As a rapper yourself, I’d be interested in hearing/ seeing your reaction to PTX’s spin on “Can’t Hold Us”. (Yep, these guys can spit bars, too!)
I’m a check it out thanks for watching
It's truly great to see you appreciate the music that is ear candy to all who gives it a listen...
YASSSS -- Keep it coming -PTX!!!
They are ten times better live. Definitely go see them
I’m getting very excited, I’m seeing them for the first time live, in London uk next week 🎉
90s dance medley..amazing
Need to check out their rapping skills in Can't Hold Us ♥♥
Will do
All the singers have their own strong vocals. Favorite group.
I am so looking forward to seeing PTX here in UK in a week and a half. Tickets were booked in 2021, but the pandemic hit and they had to postpone, twice!. But at last, it’s finally happening!. 🎉😍 welcome to the world of PTX and the Pentaholics.
Wow
I’m so happy you finally get to go, I know you’ll have a wonderful experience ❤️
If you are into emotional songs with a powerful message in the video, check out Imagine by Pentatonix! It gets me every time.
I second that. It makes me cry pretty much every time.
He needs to make sure he reacts to the original video and not the live version. The original has more meaning.
Yes the Imagine official video, and Run To You
Agree!
Scott's part is amazing with this song. He starts off so low, then goes to tenor and takes over bass when Matt sings, and then the final verse he hits those wild notes!!!
So glad to see you exploring their catalog. I hope you’ll enjoy some of their original music, too. From the early days, try “Love Again,” and “Sing.” Fron the middle of their career, try “Popspring 2016” which is a live performance of three PTX originals as well as their fantastic “Evolution of Michael Jackson,” medley. For something more recent, I suggest “Coffee in Bed,” “Be My Eyes,” and “Happy Now.” Welcome into the Pentaholic life! Great reaction.
Thanks for watching and I’m taking notes thanks for the info
One of the best groups putting it down vocally for sure. Avi started a school by the way.
Oh really wow
Going to 1 of their concerts is a MUST, but I'm gonna be honest with you, it's very different from any other groups I've been to. The ages of attendees range from 8 to 80 and if there's seats, most people stay seated. This in no way makes the concert bad, I actually prefer it that way b/c of my health but that being said, they are the most impressive group I've seen in concert!
I loved the age range at their concerts, BUT oh how I wish the audience would stand! Groove, get into it more! They perform these DANCING songs with just their voices…….I’m sure they would love their fans to stand up and enjoy! Just my thoughts!
I went to their recent Sydney concert and they split it so the first half you got to just sit and listen and absorb their talent and in the second half was all the audience participation - singing and dancing and. I reckon if anyone goes along knowing that they’ll not be too thrown.
The audience is usually very quiet. It is like the audience at a play or musical. You are there for the voices so people are usually quiet. Totally different from any concert I attended.
And the age ranges are crazy. 8 to 80 is not an exaggeration. It might be 2 to 102.
@@lilywhitefi I think a capella, since most of it started with barbershop quartets and such before evolving into what it is today, is 1 reason for the range in age. I think the 'calmer' crowds are b/c people are their to appreciate the talent but I also wish there was more standing and participation however, PTX still knows that us Pentaholics love them, whether we sit or stand 😁💜
I'm going next month and this will be my 1st one. I've followed them for years my 6 yr old loves them as well
Voices like musical velvet!
In a previous video you mentioned liking songs even though you don't know what they are saying an AMAZING song Pentatonix did with no words is the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy and they won a grammy for that song
I appreciate how you appreciate their music! I can see that you feel it!! Wonderful reaction!!
They’re the best!
Avi left in 2017 and is doing solo work. The guy in the white jacket who replaced him is Matt Sallee.
I’m enjoying your reactions. Your genuine appreciation of music shows. I know you’re really enjoying it when you hiss! Makes me smile! ❤
Oh lol u really know me now that’s what’s up thanks for watching
Hey brother, you are absolutely correct, they are teaching lessons- but without someone to give us the lessons, it is worthless. That is where ya shine my friend, getting the lessons out there! Great job.
Thanks
In addition to all the other gorgeousness of this vid, I love that the singers constantly dip, sway, and move their arms and hands as if they're literally weaving the music. Matt's bass hum and octave drop are fabulous, too. This is one of my favorite PTX videos.
G'day, I'm Kieran from down Under Australia, just found your channel today, and watched from Hallelujah through to here, based on what I've seen is coming, I'm gonna sit a couple of hours and watch through to the end, all pentaholics love finding new reactors, and you are different, I actually find I sit with a smile in anticipation for when your next hiss will burst out!!
I love I hear that tsss, and I know you loved that part, it's awesome to watch you, hoping to see your daughter a bit more too, she's on point with what she says too, you gotta be so proud of her.... the goose bumps were the biggest reaction they've had on you so far, but I also know what you had coming, lol, I'm a fan for sure, I'm subbed 😉
This new bass is Matt Sallee, he took over for Avi in 2019, this is the only change the band has ever made. A Matt story; he came to the audition for the bass and had the bassline for the audition songs memorized, and also every song they were doing on their upcoming tour, and the bassline for all their released songs....he got the job...another crazy talent.
Thanks for the info
..Matt joined the group in 2017
@@cherylwilliams9360 It was wasn't it!! Can't believe its actually been that long
Thanks!!
@@davidphillips4476 SO perfect! Dedicated AND talented ❤ I had not known he already knew all his parts! It was meant to be since they all already love each other like family.
You have to check out Superfruit, which is Scott & Mitch singing together. They do a lot of mash ups from Beyoncé and Rihanna, but also do their own songs. You’ll LOVE them!
Love your reactions, you have a new sub! Welcome to the age of Matt! You've got a lot to look forward to. Anything off their all-original album The Lucky Ones Deluxe (released in 2021 during the pandemic lockdown) is absolute FIRE! Plus their two newest Christmas albums (Evergreen, Holidays Around the World) both have some non-Christmas songs that are also fire - The Prayer is a masterpiece and should have won a Grammy, and their newest epic is Prayers for this World
Thanks for the sub and thanks for watching
New guy in white coat is Matt Sallee. He is the new bass singer that took over when Avi Kaplan left.
Wally, welcome to the Pentaholic world. For me, there is onlyl one proper answer to "What is your favorite PTX song?" That is whatever I am listening to at the moment, but I highly recommend Come Along and Bohemian Rhapsody.
Gorgeous! I see lots of good suggestions and you now know that Matt (bass) replaced Avi. To see Matt and Kevin go off, please do “New Rules x Are You That Somebody”
Becoming a Walliholic! As a fellow person who searched for acapella. The new guy is Matt.
Lol I like that “WolliHolic “ thanks for watching
Welcome to the Pentaholic club! I've known them since they won some reality singing show- forgot the name. they have videos where they talk about their voices, their range, etc.
If you want to hear an original written by them - give a listen to Run to you!
I subbed because you know what you’re talking about and you have jumped into THE rabbit hole. Welcome to the club.
Lol thanks for the support
PTX is FIRE!! Stupid good!
Many groups have moved me...But only a very few have lifted me up and out! This is one of those groups. Mad respect for these kids! MAD RESPECT!
I am enjoying your Pentatonix journey and I look forward to watching more of your Pentatonix reactions. Please react to Pentatonix mashups "Butter X Dynamite" and "New Rules X Are You That Somebody?". The are both pretty awesome.
Kevin was actually pre-med at Yale before joining Pentatonix. He was approached by Pentatonix. They needed a beat boxer and was having trouble. In a bit of desperation they went to UA-cam. His video was trending so a member from Pentatonix reached out to him asking if he wanted to fly half way across the world to audition. He said he couldn't because he was doing finals for his pre-med, he was going to be a surgeon. Two weeks later he contacted them back and said he would audition and join them. He's been with them for 12+ years.
They are just a good live too!
Angelic 🙏🙏🙏😇😇😇
My favorite part of this song is the key change, it's beautiful.
Love PTX !
Great reaction! Even in covers, they always surprise you.
Facts thanks
An interesting thing about this video is that it was shot by Ben Hausdorf, Kirstin's SO, baby daddy, and now fiance. He's mostly their tour photographer and videographer; you can see him running around with body-mounted pro video rig or a handheld in the foreground of a lot of fan videos, just below the stage. He was also the guy in the Grinch suit for a couple of the Xmas tours.
You really need to react to Pentatonix singing Amazing Grace! It’s the best!
I have it check my playlist out
Goosebumps are an issue with this group! LOL
I see lol
OK, I'm an old man (65 now) - I used to sing 2nd bass with a biggish choir (down in the _engine_room_, you understand?) I totally adore the bass lines I'm hearing here - they are sublime.
And their harmonies melt me. Keep feeding me stupidly good music. Thx!
OK, subscribed now - keep it coming :)
There has only been one change in members. The guy in the white jacket is Matt & he replaced Avi (the guy who looked like Jesus in Hallelujah) when he went solo. If you have not heard Kevin the beat boxer sing, you will be awed there as well. He has the voice of an angel & he sings on my fav by these guys 'Mary did you know?'. They do a great job on this song & the original by Simon & Garfunkel & the cover by Disturbed is also awesome. They are like 3 totally different songs. All amazing in different ways. Totally different vibes.
Great reaction mate........ they blew me out the door when I first heard them too, I guess that's why they have a zillion followers. Keep up the good work. Cheers from OZ!
I'm going to Jacksonville in August to see them - my birthday present to myself!
I highly recommend checking out their performances, in order, from The Sing Off. They were amazing then too, but their evolution is ridiculous!
Love this song. Matt has a smoothe tone to his voice❤
Keep up the great work.
Thanks
I will be seeing this LIVE next Sunday!!! August 13th!! I can not wait!!!! So excited!!!
Have fun for me
Definitely need to hear disturbed's version of the sound of silence do the official video first then live version
New guy is Matt. Avi left on good terms after the relentless grind of nonstop recording and touring left him missing family ,friends, nature, and just a more "normal" life he needed. he's got some great solo stuff but that's not why he left his close friends
Love watching your reaction, I haven't seen anyone suggest Imagine with the orignal bass singer Avi. the young man in the white is Matt, he took over for Avi. Please check out Imagine.
Save comments to end and this would be my favorite place.
Just found your channel ~ LOVE IT!!!
I don't know if you've watched any of Avi's solo stuff but, if you haven't ..... you should!!
They are all amazing artists, together or solo❤
I second that you need to hear some of their original music. Love Again is awesome. People that I have played it for didn't believe me that it was acapella! Be My Eyes is really good also. Actually, just look at their list and pick one, they are all good. These guys definitely deserved their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! You are correct. Matt replaced Avi. Their cover of Imagine is good also. The last video you are correct with the pronunciation.
Yes I’m taking notes thanks
Majestic voices and seamless harmony. Please review "Mary, did you know".
I have marry did you know check out my playlists
Matt joined in 2017
Listen to the word "words" go down the line during Kirstie's solo. Amazing
"Sing" is an original and " Can't Hold Us" are great next songs too
On it
PTX r amazing ❤❤❤❤❤😊
OMG!!! You're reactions & facial expression to this group is amazing.....love it!!
Thanks
Listen to Disturbed's version of The Sound of Silence. Simon and Garfunkel (original song writers) loved Disturbed's cover so much they suggested other's listen to it.
Have you heard Amazing Grace? You will be blown away
The proverbial "wall of sound"...
you absolutely should listen to Disturbed's version of this song. it will hit every part of your soul.
I love Pentatonix…. But no one sings this better then Disturbed… give it a listen too 😉
The word you're looking for is "Butter"
Start with the covers but they will surprise you even more when you hear their originals 🥰 I saw them live last month and they were amazing !!!!!
Matt took over bass when Avi (Jesus in a Beanie) had to leave the group due to family matters he was taking care of.
Check out the version of this song by Disturbed, too. I think you’ll like it. PTX is amazing in all of their work. “Can’t Hold Us” and “Amazing Grace” are highly recommended. Really enjoying your reactions. More PTX, and more Home Free please!
Thanks for watching and will do
More recommendations from PTX: 90ies Dance Medley, Havanna, Shallow!
Yeah, I listened to a lot of Boyz to Men when I was young.
You should see them do Marvin Gaye's Let's Get It On when they were just kids on the Sing Off.
@4:02 I picture their planning sessions being something like, "Okay, guys, what can we do to maximize goosebump production this time? We need AT LEAST a 10% increase. . . . "
