    First of all, RAM is downloadable
    A Potato works great as a power supply

    The thought of a PSU blowing out at any moment and taking your whole system with it is just terrifying. It's like suddenly losing your car, home, and most of your personal belongings at once.
    And yes, my computer is like a second home to me, that I built with my own two hands. Losing it would be like watching my cozy log cabin in the woods go down in flames.

    The other day i saw a PC one of my friends built about 4 years ago. It had an i7 2700 and a MSI gtx 660ti, both of which were powered by a Vorago "500W" PSU, and even worse, since this sketchy PSU didn't have any PCIe power connections the GPU was powered by a 2 molex to 6pin PCIe adapter but only one molex cable was connected, since the only other one it had was connected to the hard drive.
    I was amazed that the thing turned on, and even more when I realized that it hadn't blown up in 4 years.

    • @ElZamo92
      @ElZamo92 8 років тому +16

      This friend just told me that he had his ram die in this system....twice....
      And then i asked him why he hadn't bought a new PSU, and he told me "because it is too expensive", but we all know that three sets of 8GB of RAM are more expensive than one decent PSU...

    The PSU Calculator does a good job. He comes to 358 watts. My measurement showed when playing: a little under 300 watts and in normal operation about 90 watts. So my 500 watt PSU fits.

      A single gpu never needs more than 750w and that figure has a 20%safety margin built in. Your problem is much more likely to be a quality issue. Buy the best quality psu that you can , most of the manufacturers have a range of psu's, go with a higher end psu from a reputable manufacturer( such as Seasonic) and you'll be fine.

    I have a Ryzen 2700x and a GTX 960 FTW, Corsair Vengeance 2x8 GB RAM, and a SanDisk Plus 1 TB SSD. I frequently run rendering tasks that only work on CPU, utilizing 15 threads, and leave one thread open for my usual 20 Chrome tabs, several videos, and several 3D/art programs.
    450 watts works just fine.
    PSUs operate best at half-load. A supply rated with a sustained load of 1000 Watts performs best outputting 500 watts. Since your PC usage scales up and down between idling and full throttle on rendering, your best bet is to make sure your PSU is just a bit above the max load. For most gaming PCs, 400 watts is in the sweet spot. 500-600 if you're using the highest end GPUs. If you use a 750 watt PSU and you're only running one CPU and one GPU... please don't.

This usually only occurs on more graphics intense games like GTA V, or Battlefield, etc. The freezing stops everything, even sound, and can only be fixed by performing a force shutdown. Get a higher rated PSU. get something around 600-700W. I'd suggest Seasonic S-12II series Corsair (Preferably CS over CX) or FSP Aurum 700W. To be honest though I wouldn't go with a r9 290 in the first place. The card runs very hot and eats a lot of power. You can get a GTX 970 for a similar price. It has better performance and requires less beefy PSU.

  • @paulfrischknecht3999
    @paulfrischknecht3999 3 роки тому

    Consider this guys: Power in Watts = Volts * Amperes. Because the Volts your PSU must output are fixed by the ATX standard (12, 5, 3.3 and -12), that leaves you with the amount of Amperes a given powersupply can deliver. Now 1 Ampere is 1 Coulomb per second, a Coloumb being a unit of charge and therefore a certain (very high...) quantity of electrons. Thus, the only difference between power supplies with high and low wattages is how many amperes, how many coulombs per second they can deliver *at most*. In other words, how good of a charge pump they are. A powersupply is basically a equivalent to a water pump, only it pumps electrons through wires, not water through hoses. Furthermore, the pump is controlled to always run as strong as required to maintain a certain fixed pressure (the voltage). If your powersupply is too weak, that is, if your components demand too much power (they let too much charge per second flowing through them at constant pressure) and your pump cannot keep up, the pressure (voltage) drops.

    • @paulfrischknecht3999
      @paulfrischknecht3999 3 роки тому

      Note that the powersupply cannot deliver the same amount of charge at each "pressure level" (voltage rail), thus you cannot expect to be able use your 1000 W PSU's -12 V cable as a 1000/12 A backwards charge pump ("lab power supply"). The amount of charge, of amperes, available on each rail is probably proportionate to the amount of cables of that color. Any given cable thickness can only carry so many amperes before melting... Not to mention the PSU will not be able to put all its 1000/12 Amperes on any single one of its yellow wires, only on all of them together. You need to distribute the amperes to different cables. That's why it's better to run two cables from your PSU to the two power connectors on your GPU, instead of using one of those Y-adapters or double ended connectors.
