So this video went a bit longer than I intended, but I really wanted to include a more detailed demo section to show styling into clean hair as well as second-day hair. What do you guys think? Do you like this format, and should I keep using it for my future reviews?
YAY its finally out! And im 4 days late damn :/ Thanks for doing a review on this product Matt! I actually went ahead to get it before the video was out. Couldn't wait haha. And I definitely agree with everything you said in the video. The product goes in pretty slick, however once I've warmed it up around in my hair (i've got pretty thick and wavy hair), it kinda has this dry tangly feeling which is a little unpleasant, making it a little hard to style into place. Was actually hoping for this product to be a little better but oh well guess it is what it is! I'm actually trying to look for the best clay out there for my hair type, I've had Claymation, Cavalier, Clutch, Arcadian and now Morrocanoil's texture clay and I've got to say, until now, Arcadian's Clay Pomade seems to be the best clay in my opinion, for thick hair like ours. It goes in silky smooth, with absolutely 0 tug or pull whatsoever and doesn't really have that tangly feeling. The hold on it is also pretty darn good and you won't have the slightest issue of restyling your hair throughout the day. Was trying to find a clay that would beat Arcadian but seems like it still outperforms everyone else haha. Give that a try Matt you'll love it! :D
And I think this format is dope! You're the best at giving super detailed reviews on hair products, no one else on youtube really does this. So keep it up brotha!
I actually just ordered a jar of Arcadian for myself (finally!) to give it a proper test 😉 And thanks so much man! It means a lot to hear that. I’m glad you like the new format too!
I have this clay and it’s absolutely amazing. My next clay I want to get is the sheer revival matte paste because I herd it’s a good scent for a teen with a crew cut like myself.
iPhone Fanatic I agree! I tried all of them LOL just picked up a jar of this moroccanoil texture clay yesterday, and I have medium-fine hair, and this product blew me away! Love the gritty, texturized, lived-in look it creates, with crazy volume and it thickens the hair. Love the matte finish and the weightless hold. This became my favorite product.
@@BlackEgrets morrocanoil texture clay! Clutch xl is quite heavy for me and quiet shiny to be honest.. if you want to use something that's even better than the Moroccan oil texture clay, I highly suggest the new crafted Matt paste from the collaboration between the salon guy and Flagship pomade! That one is fantastic and it's like the Moroccanoil texture Clay on steroids LOL also from the salon guy I love the pregame wax paste, which has a very strong hold but I find that one is better suited for someone with shorter hair versus the crafted matte paste works with longer hair too, just as well. if you like something dry like the Moroccanoil one you can also try the Oasis Clay from Templeton tonics, Arcadian matte paste & stickmore styling cream! One of my go-to nowadays is the o'douds dry wax.. Very very good
@@BlackEgrets ah you're welcome 🙂👍🏻 it's very difficult to find a good product that works very well and that has great ingredients that are not toxic so all of these are very good options and they all perform superbly well
Hi I have fine hair with a middle part haircut. Would you recommend this product for me? I currently use American Crew forming Cream however I’ve found that I want something with a stronger hold. I was thinking of using the cream I already have as a pre styler accompanied by Argan oil 2-3x a week and then the Moroccanoil clay as the main styler I know I’m late but would appreciate any help
thanks for reviewing this product - i was looking for a review on it for months now because i need a very matte product thats not too heavy on beeswax (since i have finer blonde hair) so it does not look greasy. Do you think this product will also work for fine (but a lot of) blonde hair? id like to create a voluminous texturized and matte (nearly dry-matte) finish
Can u suggest a pomade or clay for styling thin slightly curly to wavy hair medium length . Hair is very frizzy.. Doesnt last for any style. Looking for a natural look with medium hold and pliable natural soft texture..also which doesn't weigh my hair down. Better it's water based and natural ingredients
I have thin hair and im done using cavalier clay that stuff is garbage. Is this a good product for getting alot of volume in thin hair, and how does it compare to products such as kevin murphy.
Try adding the Voluminous Mousse by OGX first, then use this clay. Worked well for me, didn't without the mousse. I've never felt my hair like this before, have been suffering from fine hair.
Love your videos, currently I am using tigi bedhead matte separation.. Suggest any better wax then tigi. I have very thin hairs I am looking forward for a natural look, whether morrocanoil wax is better than tigi.
This is not a wax, it's a clay, and verrrrry different from Tigi matte separation wax. With that being said, this should work well for your fine hair as it has a thickening effect.
Hi Matt, would you say application is the same as Morris Motley as well? I really disliked the MM application, it was horrendously sticky in my curly hair.. Moroccanoil Texture Clay looks like it has a much softer consistency and thus, hopefully, an easier application..
I had the same problem. This is def easier to apply than MM TSB, however this clay does have a similar swelling/tangly effect for me after it fully sets in.
I have been looking for a hair clay and I am torn between this Moroccanoil texture clay, Clutch clay xl and baxter of california clay pomade; out of those three products, which would you recommend for someone with long thick asian hair who wants medium to high hold and long lasting pliability?
I’d say the Baxter clay has the most pliability as it’s oil based. It’s also the most difficult to wash out and can be greasy looking if you use too much. My personal favorite of the lot is Clutch, though I prefer regular over the XL version. If you do go XL, it can be a bit sticky if you use too much so just be sure to start small and layer. The Moroccanoil one is the driest of them and for me has the lightest hold. Hope this helps!
Hey TDM can you help me decide on what to get. Currently use Baxter clay works well I guess but thinking about trying something different. I style my hair like a modern messy quiff pretty much like that signature Zayn Malik look. I’m looking into this Moroccan oil Clay, a bluuman product like monarch or cavalier, Kevin Murphy rough rider/knight rider or a Shear revival clay. Can you recommend me anything from those or any other good ones you might think would work for my hair style?
Most of those products you listed are very different from one another, so it depends on your hair type/texture, how much hold you want etc. If you want something similar to the Baxter clay, I guess the closest of the ones you listed is Cavalier. However in my opinion, Baxter is just straight better than Cav so I wouldn't recommend changing that up. Monarch for me is pretty much terrible as it has a very light hold, is not matte, and the texture was too stringy/strandy for me. Rough Rider is nice, with a grittier feel. Haven't tried Night Rider yet. Moroccanoil clay was pretty good but quite dry for me, though I think they may have reformulated so I need to try it again. Shear Revival, I think you'd like their Northern Lights matte paste. Lightweight, nice texture, easy to use.
TDM Style Ah I see thanks for the advice. Will try shear revival then, plus seems like their products usually passes your smell test so that’s a +1 for me 👍
Try some oil-based clays instead of water-based - they tend to have more of a natural finish. Grand Classic Texture Balm and Fuertes clay are amazing stuff!
I just saw Modern man Tv’s vid about the Wow Shampoo and conditioner but once I saw the 10 in 1 hair revitalizer, it looked exactly like 25 spray. But since 10 in 1 has 2 more ounces don’t you think it’s “better”?
I watched that too. Can’t say for sure without having tried it myself. However in my opinion more product doesn’t necessarily mean “better.” Going purely on the product descriptions, what’s “better?” 2 more ounces of product, or 15 additional benefits? Either way I’d have to actually try using the 10 in 1 spray and test it to have a proper opinion.
Does it really wash out easy? I’m searching so hard for something that washes out easy. I just used Cavalier by BluMaan for the first time and it was brutal. Literally shampooed my hair 3 times and conditioned 3 times and I felt like I could still feel it in my hair.
Yeah I hear ya, Cav and other petro- or wax-based formulas are definitely tougher to wash out. This one though is water-based and comes out very easily. It’s very different from Cav though - much drier and lighter. The only drawback for me was the tangly feeling since the dryness and thickening effect didn’t play well with my coarse thick hair.
TDM Style gotcha. I like Arcadian and it's what I currently use, but I'm not a huge fan of their false advertising (i.e. "Washes out with just water" and "matte finish") neither claim is true by any means. Plus the smell is just... Weird. I do like it, but I feel like there's better options out there. I'll be moving on once the jar is finished and I'll likely give Morrocanoil a shot
TDM Style yes, you definitely should. Again, it is a great product that performs very well, it's just not as advertised. I wish they would "re-label" the product and give us an accurate description (and preferably enhance the scent too)
I know you said its water based and seems like most of it comes off with just water, but as someone who has never used product, is it okay to just use water and only shampoo every other day or couple of days, even if some still stays in your hair when you wash with just water?
No hair product is going to make your hair finer. This has some thickening effect with the clay in it which is why it made my hair feel tangly, due to the coarse wavy texture my natural hair has.
My hair looks so bad and I think this will really help me so thank you But I have 1 question before I buy it. Should I always use it even if I won’t go out and do I have wash it out after I get home it is it ok to take a shower and that’s it please help I have never used a clay on my hair
Only use it when you want to - there is no need to use it all the time if you’re staying home or whatever. And no you don’t have to wash it out right away. It’s just like any other hair product - totally fine to leave in for a day or two before shampooing.
TDM Style hello man I just got the clay but idk when to use it like let’s say I will go out tomorrow should I use the clay before I go out or should I use it the night before I go out I know that I am asking dumb questions but I have never used this kind of stuff and I really need help because my hair really ruined my self esteem
Use it like you would any styling product. For me I prefer to style my hair right before going out because if I do it the night before it gets messed up after sleeping on it. Experiment and see what works best for you.
A lot of products use a touch of alcohol as a preservative. There's such a small amount that I wouldn't worry about it being "bad for your hair." You certainly don't want to dump a bottle of it on your head, but the amount that would be in a typical scoop of this stuff is probably negligible.
Sounds like maybe you are applying too much at once - try layering it in in small amounts. Also you could try prestyling with an anti-frizz serum or other kind of smoother to make sure your hair is nice and smooth before applying the clay.
Great review! I recently purchased baxter of california clay pomade and really like it so far. Can you give a quick does moroccanoil texture clay compare in terms of styling, hold, finish and performance? I have thick medium length hair and style a modern quiff. Thanks and keep up the awesome reviews
Thanks! The Moroccanoil clay is quite different from Baxter - in my experience the Moroccanoil has a dryer, more matte finish, less hold, similar texture but a bit less pliability. I think Baxter would probably be better for a quiff since it has higher hold. Moroccanoil does wash out much more easily though. Hope this helps!
Depends, what sort of hold level and finish are you after? There are a bunch of great ones with varying degrees of both so I can narrow it down depending on the specs you want 👍🏻
@@frankrizzo9521 For a slick back, that is really the best option. This clay is def better for fine/straight hair though, so it might work depending on what you’re after.
Hey man I have been looking for a good hair product and seen this review and I was sold on this texture clay. I actually followed your hair drying tutorial bought the moroccanoil smoothing cream and used half a pump, once my hair was dry i took a small amount of clay about a size of a dime, emulsified it and as soon as I applied it I found it made the hair sticky. Tried to run a comb through it and I couldn't. Is there something I am missing? I also noticed that when in opened the jar the clay looked like a dried up hockey puck about 1/8th of an inch from the edge of the side jar and the one you opened up it clay looks smooth and full. Is there any way this could be an older dried out product that I have purchased? Anyways any info/help would be appreciated.
Hmm, that does sound strange like it was either old, or possibly even counterfeit product. Apparently some amazon sellers put out fake cosmetics - I’ve never experienced it myself but I’ve heard several stories from others. Mine definitely doesn’t feel sticky to apply, though it is drier and swells the hair which, for me, feels tangly, but application itself is pretty smooth.
TDM Style can you at least give me your thoughts and impressions on the product? I have a jar and I really like the consistency and overall feel of it. Thanks in advance 🤙✌️. Really enjoy your content by the way.
I like it! I think they did a nice job of making something unique. The liquid-y, putty-like consistency was a surprise (I expected it to be a more typical paste texture) but the performance is quite nice. Only thing I’m not crazy about is the scent as I feel it’s pretty overpowering in a cologne sort of way.
Styling products causing/contributing to hair loss is a myth. The only way that would even remotely come close to happening is if you use a shit load of product on the daily and literally never wash it out, it would begin to clog the pores and hair follicles on your scalp. But even that is a stretch, as long as you wash your hair once every few days, there’s nothing to worry about.
I finally bought claymation and its really a great product. I heard that a lot of people complain about the matt finish and they say that it leaves your hair a little bit greasy but i think this is a pretty good matt finish even if i use it in dump hair
If it smells like rotting flowers I’d say you got one with something wrong with it. The Moroccanoil scent is an amber/spice base with some light floral notes. Maybe expired or something?
@@TDMStyle I ordered the product directly from the Moroccanoil website. It looks and performs nice but the smell is disgusting. It is way too intense and sweet, similar to baby powder or - to me - like rotting flowers. I had to stop using it. I also felt it is quite sticky when applying it. Application wasn’t smooth for me at all.
Most hair products have chemical compounds in them - that doesn’t mean they are bad. Sure, some are, but not all. Alcohol is commonly used as a preservative, and while obviously you don’t want a lot because it can be drying, this one has it quite a ways down the ingredients list. In my opinion the oils and nutrients that you mention balance out the small amount of alcohol.

What are your top clays for thick curvy/wavy hair? I'm considering the Moroccanoil texture clay, also Lockhart's, or Hanz de fuko
Thanks man!
Depends, what sort of hold level and finish are you after? There are a bunch of great ones with varying degrees of both so I can narrow it down depending on the specs you want 👍🏻
Are you supposed to use it on dry hair or damp hair?
Ideally on dry hair
would this work for a messy slick back
I mean it’s very matte and has an overall dry texture, so “slick” isn’t really a term I’d use for it.
Good for fine/thin hair slick back?
Matte products are not meant for slick backs. You’d be better off with some type of pomade.
@@TDMStyle pomade even for fine hair?
@@frankrizzo9521 For a slick back, that is really the best option. This clay is def better for fine/straight hair though, so it might work depending on what you’re after.
Thanks a lot that’s very helpful.
Nice review man.
Look forward to see your next hair products review.😎🔥
所以你們有要引進這款了嗎XD?
Thanks man!
Kevin Lin 沒有哈哈哈哈哈哈這款試用覺得hold不住XD
Great video , really helpful, lots of love from India 😘😘
Do a video on morrocanoil Treatment hair oil
What is that hair colour? how can i get it done?!
Sammy i It’s a combination of Pravana Violet and Wild Orchid - I have a video of how it was done here: ua-cam.com/video/IuTeVhKMUzA/v-deo.html ☺️
Is it good for thin hairs?
Sure! The clay can be volumizing for thinner hair.
Do a video trying the pete and Pedro products
Meh. I’m not a fan of those products tbh.
I love this product
House 99 line review?
Thinking about it!
Will you be reviewing Nevermore, the Lockhart's and Modern Man TV colab?
I was thinking about it since I do have a jar and have been testing it. Not sure if I should review it though since it was a limited release.
TDM Style thanks so much for the reply! I really enjoy your content, keep it up 😉
how does this compare to clutch? is there a sticky application?
They create a similar texture and finish, but Clutch is smoother to apply for me and also has a stronger inherent hold.
Why your hairline going back from the sides
Because I've had literally the same hairline since I was born and it is what it is
@@TDMStyle 😍😘❤ BTW big fan bro because you give the honest reviews LOVE FROM (INDIA )
Its a good review bro a bit long but. Its still well made...👍
Thanks!
What is the price bro
What the full vid and you’ll find out 😜
Can anyone tell me if this product can contribute to hair loss, I need to convince my dad because he thinks every product causes hair loss😭
TDM Style thank you for the debunk!! I love the videos btw keep it up
what is better, this clay, or Clutch clay xl?
Personally Clutch XL works better for me. This one makes my hair feel too tangly.
i am moroccan i think i should not use this because i am already oily LOL
I mean the product is dry so it’s not about to make your hair oilier lol
Please can u please unblock shellshock and poweline homie G-looks🙏🗣
Sure, you can access them here: bit.ly/1CXoQqK
It caused frizz for me ☹️
better than claymation?
I wouldn't really say one is better than the other. They are verrrrry different.
@@TDMStyle it does have a great hold compared to claymation?
Honestly for me not really. Claymation’s hold was a bit stronger.
I finally bought claymation and its really a great product. I heard that a lot of people complain about the matt finish and they say that it leaves your hair a little bit greasy but i think this is a pretty good matt finish even if i use it in dump hair
You think they change their formula and it provides a better matt finish?
Jesus loves you
Great product, horrible smell. Can‘t get over it. To me, it smells like rotting flowers. I absolutely hate it.
It has a granny-like smell AND i think that it IS sticky. Breaking it down, it gets quite sticky.
if you use this on dry hair it will literally pull it out by your roots. and it stinks.
What a horrible product. Nothing but a bunch of chemicals and alcohol packed with ouls and nutrients.
