I wonder how people would have handled their secrets if they had known everyone would know the truth in the end. Parents should tell their children the truth. Everyone has a right to know their medical history, to know their family history and to have a relationship with those that wish to have a relationship with them. 💛

There's human secrets and biological secrets. In our case grandmother kept secret having a baby son before she was married, but did she know the boy she brought home from the hospital and raised as her son, was not hers? Thanks to DNA we now know whose son he really was. The key people are long dead. Those of us left to build out our true family tree cannot meet two grandparents and two uncles. I've had a happy meeting with one full first cousin, but her sibling declined contact and died last year. Family history can be hidden or lost. Some of it may not be known at the start and through time many things can happen to erase its traces. DNA is different. 💛

My family all KNEW my maternal grandpa (he raised me) was not my biological grandpa. On his death bed, I was told "I don't know why you're here, he's not even your grand daddy". Once I started talking to the family about it... they all said, "I thought you knew". I stopped talking to them all because they knew I was searching for my own biological father but to also know the man raising me wasn't my real grandpa. I distanced myself from them all. I found my biological grandpa via 23andMe. His sister (my 1/2 grand aunt - I am her twin). My biological grandpa died just a year before I found out about him.

💛💛💛💛💛💛💛 knowing the details of my birth, makes me sad for those who don't. I know I was 5 lbs 2 oz, born on Sunday night at 3 minutes till 8 and it was snowing (which is rare now where I live in NC). My granddaddy had said if mama had a baby soon, it would be the size of a rat 😊. When we left the hospital on Friday morning, mama's sister was admitted and had my cousin that day. I almost feel guilty for my knowledge of myself 😢
