Once you make your millions pivoting in life and taking risks is pretty easy. The reason people don’t take risks when they’re older is because they don’t have time to make it again if they lose everything. I promise you, no one wants to sit on their couch, grow old, and watch the world pass them by while they reminisce about their glory days. He made his money young, good for him.

I’m not sure that’s completely true. I know a lot of guys that made money young… the lifestyle, pressure and obligations that brought with it has hindered many of them from choosing a path that makes them happy. I agree that if you don’t have your basic needs met, change is a real issue and hard. Beyond that I do believe people are scared shitless of it, at the cost of their long term happiness

@@CliffGray I agree it might not be 100% true. You’ll always find exceptions to the rule. But, if the majority of people had millions in the bank like this guy, people wouldn’t be to afraid to make changes if they wanted to. Money equals security whether we like it or not.

Money makes the risk go away. Take away all his money and have him start guiding from scratch. That would be risky.

Awesome episode. As a novice elk hunter, would love to hear more about “set up analysis”. I know there’s no substitute for experience but would love to hear as many stories as possible about how to analyze, thought process, etc. A setup deep dive if you will.

That’s awesome for Kip. I think he owns a big interest in that chunk of land with some other people. It’s an investment and he got the business part out of the way to make way for this period of life. Not sure that was the original goal but it’s come full circle. He’s doing what he loves as a human and invested both physically and financially into this process. They recognize that in 20 years all hunting will be commercials d animals will become more and more limited. They have good long term vision to see this happen and it makes good financial sense to do it now. Congrats Kip, enjoy sir!

Yeah he’s not like the rest of us. His hunting life to mine is public land vs. high fence for comparison. Millions of dollars in cushion. I bet he would bail on 99% of hunts with your audience Cliff. Interview some elk killer that has trouble making his truck payments. Way more relatable.

Just watched the interview - thanks for sharing. Kip is pursuing what he loves, in a totally new industry. Respect him jumping in and getting boots on the ground in his business.

Didnt under armor drop the Bowmar's because they legally killed a bear? Doesn't sound like a stand up guy to me. Money over morals.

Great interview Cliff! As someone who has had some pretty big career changes from a soldier to healthcare to starting an outdoor gear company it really resonated. Kip’s energy is contagious and you nailed a very entertaining interview. 👊

I filmed Kip once on a deer hunt in Baltimore and stayed at his guest house. Super nice guy. Very down to earth. He seemed like a happy guy, but something about him didn’t seem content. Glad to hear he got out of the big business and doing something that’s closer to his heart and testing himself. Good luck, Kip!

Great stuff Cliff, Kip! As a blue collar hunter, I can totally relate! I’ve strived to learn elk and become the best elk hunter I can possibly be! And in doing so, I’ve been in some great situations, and killed some great elk with my bow! You have to have the mindset for success and always believe! I learned on my own and studied some of the greatest bowhunter and elk hunters in America! And been mentored by some of the greatest hunters I know right here in my home state of NM! Guys that no one has ever heard of, yet they kill nearly every year! Personally I’ve been bowhunting elk since 2008. I’ve probably hunted 15 different units in NM and CO. I thrive on stepping into the unknown of hunting different units. And I know that’s not for everyone. But I love knowing before I ever step into a unit that I am going to have an opportunity to kill elk! And all on public land including heavily pressured otc units in CO. I thrive on the challenge! And I think most successful hunters thrive on the challenge of the unknown! Yes I’ve eaten a few tags. And it kills me when I’m not successful! But it motivates me to be better next time! I just love bowhunting! I should add, I pick units apart on topos and know the units like the back of my hand well before stepping foot!

@@CliffGray yes it is Cliff. I’ll never forget my first archery elk hunt. I drew a coveted unit 34 NM tag and absolutely knew nothing about elk. I didn’t kill an elk but hunted strictly off instinct. Knew nothing about calling but had a hoochie mama. I called in a giant herd bull on what I thought was a perfect set up. Only he had other ideas. He circled behind me and basically screamed in my face for 10 minutes at 15 yards but where he circled was right in the thickest timber of my set up and I drew and held my bow as long as I could probably a dozen times just knowing he was gonna step out for an easy broadside shot. Only he had other ideas and when he didn’t see the cow he heard (me), he went back the same way he came leaving me come off that mountain shaking like a leaf and a big smile on my face. And an addiction I can’t kick. Serious dopamine! Now I spend my time critiquing my hunts and still trying to unlock the elk code every chance I get. And rutting mule deer with a bow in January? OMG that is a close second!

Being a hunting guide seems like the most awesome feeling when getting the game, but alot of pressure with all the variables trying to make it happen for the client... from a newbie hunter perspective.
