- 1993 Triumph Trophy 3 900cc needs a new sprag clutch, Strip and rebuild, new upgraded sprag clutch fitted, This is just the way i do it and is filmed in real time and not edited,
Great explained. I'm glad the video is still available, it helped me with my Sprint five years ago.Now the same problem is also with my Trident Sidecar. There are some things that have been forgotten. Thanks for the help....
Splendid ,many thanks' for your efforts in compiling the video. All best wishes .Doug.1996 Sprint owner.
Great video. Nice & slow showing it done right. I cant beleive there’s 2 dislikes on this. Invaluable to me as I own a 92’ trident. I feel confident now if I need to do it one day. Thanks mate from Australia 🇦🇺
Super video. Great to see an old school mechanical enginner at work, with all those wrinkly tricks of the trade.....getting the bars in left and right to hold the spacer from dropping into the abyss was a joy to view.. I will have a close look at my Thunderbird sport tomorrow and see if the hatch is present. ( 2003 model)
Thanks for showing this informative video, very helpful of I have to do a sprag clutch! Cheers
spot on. Thanks for sharing your expertise . Fantastic way of explaining it all... had me pissing myself laughing... Thanks mate.
What a fantastic set of videos. I’ve just bought one of these on a 2001 plate. I know where to come if anything goes wrong......👍🏻
Different design
Brilliant, well done, thankyou
Wow just watched the whe two parts in full, I have a 1998 Sprint that has developed the clacking from the alternator area. I hope the procedure is similar. Haven't taken the alternator off yet but I'm told it could be the alternator bolt or the sprag clutch. Thanks to this video I do actually have the confidence to to tackle this. Is it likely to cause damage in the meantime or just a bad noise?
Will I need to rebalanced carbs if I take them off?
Where abouts are you based and how much would you charge for this job?
Good, informative video. I'm about to do the same to a friend's 1994 Sprint. Should be interesting. I'll get the rods ready !
Mac. Kent.
IS this the same motor that is in a 95 Tiger by chance????
If the tiger motor has the top access panel then it is the same, but like the trophy some had the other style engine without the top access panel
Muchas gracias por el video, muy buena explicación, ahora mismo empiezo a desmontar.
Finaly, how did you align the gear with the basket ? a special trick ?
Because I have the same problem and I relay don't know how to do that...
please help :)
I put a smear of grease on the face of the rear gear and the back of the clutch basket and that helped to stop the rear gear moving about too much, I then used the center splined piece that goes through both parts to align the clutch basket, I then held the clutch basket in place and removed the center splined part and used a thin screwdriver to align the rear gear with the clutch basket, it is still fiddly and took me three attempts before the center splined part slipped in, hope this helps.
@@pick6667 Thank you very much for the quick answer, that helps a lot.
It's really hard to put together, I don't understand how Triumph was able to design such a system ...
Regards from France
Thanks for doing this in real time so we can follow what's going on,its easy to forget things,ie Alternator, but the careful and unhurried way you work is most commendable.
One quick Q...is it right that to change the air filter its a right pain in the arse ??
Hi Damian, yes it is a pain to change the air filter, it's not hard to do but very time consuming because of all the stuff that you have to take off and then put back together again
Just curious, how many miles/km on your bike before the sprag clutch went out?
Hi Li Fan
I'll double check with the lad who owned the bike but i seem to remember it having around 70000 miles on the clock
Thank you for the info
do you know if this was an issue with the '96 Trophy 1200? (I'm thinking of buying one)...thanks!
Hi Mike, I have heard of the 1200 sprag clutch playing up but not not as much as the 900 triples.
thank you for the lesson
How long did it take to complete the job?
hi, the job took about a day, that was stripping off the bodywork and carbs and putting it back together again.
Would this procedure be the same on a 1996 Sprint 900?
Hi, If the engine has the cover on allowing access to the sprag clutch then the procedure should be the same.
No
would be the same procedure on a triumph legend?
if your engine has the top access hatch then it should be the same procedure
Pick666 after writing to you I found a tutorial and sadly the motorcycle must be almost completely disabled to access the engine and turn it down on my model, thank you anyways for your videos, very nicely explained!
I think you forgot the clutch cover gasket when reinstalling it
The new gasket was on the main case before I put the cover on, if you look at the gasket face you will see it is black and not silver as before,
Pick666 oh sorry then, anyways watching the detailed video I thought that it was impossible that you forget anything. Perfect work and explanations ;)
