- So Amaaaaazing.....Enjoy ;-D
Roger Troutman (November 29, 1951 -- April 25, 1999) was the lead singer of the band Zapp who helped spearhead the Funk movement and heavily influenced West Coast hip hop due to the scene's heavy sampling of his music over the years. Troutman was well known for his use of the talkbox, a device that is connected to an instrument (frequently a keyboard) to create different vocal effects. Roger used a custom-made talkbox-the Electro Harmonix "Golden Throat," as well as a Yamaha DX100 FM synthesizer. As both lead singer of Zapp and in his subsequent solo releases, he scored a bevy of funk and R&B hits throughout the 1980s. In his later years, he was mostly known for singing the chorus to the hip-hop classic, "California Love".

People forget how good of a musician and guitar player he was..
Also, y'all don't sleep on the late, great "Sting" Ray Davis singing bass. He was the guy on all those Parliament records too("tear the roof off the sucker!") What a magnificent voice.

You don’t even know how many times I’ve came back to watch this video. One of the best live shows ever!!!
Most energetic performers of all time if you didn't see him live I feel for you there will never be another Roger Troutman featuring Zapp ,they tore it up in Columbus Ga,best concert of all time
I'm sure he was amazing in person!!! Did he have Shirley Murdock with him at the time??? She's amazing as well!
Yes she was,the Gap Band was also in the building
Prince and The Time, also performing Grand. Master Flash and The Furious Five

I saw Zapp 6 mths ago the band is tight they still givin up the funk the way the late great Roger Troutman would want them to.
I remember being glued to the television as a little kid when this came on just once that I know of on BET. This man is the reason I wanted to be a musician
The single greatest live performance ever. Full stop.
I just can't belive this amazing music man is gone.Roger would have been a superstar had he lived.
Best 30 minutes of all time. This was an awesome show. And this show was 20+ years.
Anthony McFadden..I'm, feeling so badly that I, never had a, chance to see them live!!. I, took it for granted that they would be around much, longer~~
Anthony McFadden...Exactly, well stated, when we first heard more bounce to the ounce in 1980 with the talk box, we could not stop dancing, drinking and whatever (lol)..Peace ~~
27 years old. My parents always played this. Still love it to this day .
I was a baby when he was in his prime but man his work is timeless and will carry on forever!!! RIP Roger
This is still incredible, 30 years later.
This was when Black Entertainment Television was BLACK ENTERTAINMENT TELEVISION!!!
vicous bass; roger troutman at his best on the talk box/mic. this is great!
Roger was the shit love his music and that voice box is amazing
He was such a talented man! Rest in Peace Roger, you are gone but will never be forgotten. 😇
I love him still and may his soul continue to R.I.P.
This is the greatest thing I've ever seen. Love the crowd's Cosby Show style
I had the pleasure of hanging out with Roger and the band several times back in the 80's as a club DJ and through my other job as a DJ at a local radio station in Dayton, Ohio. I remember going to Roger's studio on Salem Avenue . Very cool guy. One of the best funk bands ever. Of course, Dayton produced a lot of great funk bands: Zapp, Lakeside, Slave, The Ohio Players and many more.
And.... Dayton ! The Sound of Music 🎶
Wow. That's awesome. He inspires me so much. I bet he was super cool. He seems hilarious
David Vadnais, sounds like you knew them when they were Roger and the human body
I don’t watch this like 5 times. I had the pleasure seeing them in 1982 at the Mecca Area when I was 12. My big brother took me to all the concerts back then..
I wasn't even born when dis happen and I have to say dis some real funky music u can't tell me this not r.i.p. handsome
I remember watching the first two songs of this show when I was like 14 yrs old on youtube. It's so incredible coming back to this after so long now that i'm 24. Such a legend, have to thank youtube for introducing me to his music.
This sh*t is Spiritual to me... like going to church. Thank you Roger Troutman!
ahahahahha
Amen
amen
Well said... Bless you.... Brought me to tears at 3am.... I just needed my Uncle Roger fix.... And yes it felt like I was having church.... Healing for my soul!!!!
Are you Rogers relative for real? If so, that's amazing. I'm from Sweden and i LOVE your uncle. I show him to everyone, that's into music. I so wished i was older when he was at his best (this concert!!) and black (otherwise i couldn't get in to the concert, i think?) Haha. I watch this show many times, when i clean at home, or need to "go to church" like Ian Mitchell put it.
He maybe gone but his fire still going
awesome talented showman
A VHS rip in 240p.
Zapp deserves so much better.
Needs an AI-upscaling, for sure
@@DDeCicco YES PLEASE
Daaaaaaaamn you got some 80s BET shit...
Now THATS rare... Impossible to find. Big thanks for uploading...
Never thought i´d see anything like this.
what is BET - from germany - did we miss suming :P
Yeah, its an american channel "Black Entertainment Television" is was dope as fuck in the 80s, 90s and early 00s... Then it kind of went down hill. I grew up in Sweden so i missed it too. The shows on Seedish television it so white theyll blind your eyes lol. The "blackest" show we got is Fresh Prince In Bel Air and The Cosby Show..... Lol
They lived in an era of good music. It wasn’t rare to them. Just like now days when people can’t believe that Africans traded gold for salt. When you have a lot of something, you don’t realize how special it is.
I never saw the whole thing. Thanks! The Version of computer love gave me the tingles.
ROGER = LEGEND
Roger Troutman was the shit. 😍😍😍
lol
Amazing
Yeah he was!!
I'm still working out to these Masterpieces daily at 72 it all started when I was 32 dancing for hours. More Bounce to the Ounce and I still kick the volume up. Roger and Zapp FOREVER💯🔥🔥💕💕💕💕💕**RIP**😢
It's 2020, i'm brazilian and i CANT STOP LISTENING AND WATCHING ONE OF THE BEST LIVE CONCERTS IN HUMAN HISTORY. I love Zapp and Roger Troutman since the day i first heard "I Can Make You Dance", back in 2008, when i found a LongPlay Disc of Zapp in my boss office. God bless the Talkbox Master!
Tamo junto mano!
Ridiculous level of talent, a true multi-instrumentalist in action
If I was old enough be in this era I would've had the Jheri curl..great performance
This show is nuts...
i just wonder... how can some1 dislike something like this? if maybe the 1st time in my life when i switch to a program of rap only to listen to MUSIC like this, and is unbelievable.
a dynamic concert full of energy legends never duplicated
That is Ray Davis an original member of Parliament Funkadelic. his voice was amazing!
Bow wow wow, yippee yo yippee yay!🤘🏾
Roger is my favorite funk singer.
Roger's true face was the same on stage on face to face. Great person!
When I met him he had to talk Larry into giving me their new "Roger and The Human Body" LP. I still have it.
WHAT AMAZING ENTERTAINER!!!! GONE WAY TO SOON R.I.P ROGER. THANK YOU A JOB WELL DONE.
Other than me who else is listening to this kind of music here in 2017............

Thanks for posting. Roger Troutman, I love you. BET, I love you.
I watch this daily! Maybe the best performance ever!
Morris Day and The Time and Prince sound EXACTLY like Roger Troutman and THE ZAPP. REAL PIONEERS! FUTURISTIC. SUPER COOL FOR 1989! My time! 😮😮😮💥💥💥💥💥💥💯💯💯
this is realy awesome roger R.I.P soull brother
I love Roger. I think he truly was an unsung artist, and capable of so much more than the voice box. I also love that he was so humble and kind on top of that one in a million personality that only a Sagittarius could have. He was simply great and taken away far too soon.
Unreal. Absolutely amazing.
This is one of the best concerts I’ve heard seen....
Roger Troutman..What A Genius..Man Could Write,Made The TALKBOX (Not Autotune Kiddies)A Lead Voice,Could Play Guitar Like Nobodys Business(Lester Said They Started Of Playing Zeppelin & Other Covers In the Garage)And Was A Funny Dude R I P Roger Wish I Could Have Had The Chance To See ZAPP In Concert..
Zapp is one of those funky ass groups that all colors of people would protect
Amazing! This has to be one of the greatest performances ever by a musician! The artist of the past was a true performer! So sad that we will never witness acts like this in a very long time. It's more about the money these days than the love for the music. These gentlemen loved their brand and music to the fullest extent. RIP Roger you were an icon!
Straight killed it. Great entertainer!
When i wanna be your man came on the echo and synths man are fire
I wish I saw these guys live.............."whoo!"
Omg!!! Makes my heart and soul smile so bright!!!
That settles it. I've got to have one one of those talk box golden throat thangs!
What a 30 minutes!My head can't help moving.
Amazing performance!!
Absolutely captivating!! Talk about a high energy, perfection 👌
7:49 - Imagine this legendary performance after being locked indoors for almost 2 years due to Covid.
what an inspiration to music. if this guy does not musically inspire you, you must be crazy. I love this dude so much what a contributor to music. you are the man roger.
Gotta give props to legendary steel guitarist Pete Drake for being the pioneer of “the talking instrument.”
Now that's how u put on a show!!! Man I miss them Days!!
In one week it'll mark 18 years since he's been gone. Roger and Larry. RIP to a pioneer. 🎶🎶🎶🎹🎹🎹🎹🎼🎼🎼🎼
YO THIS DUDE KILLS IT!!!!!!
What a blessing to see a show like this. Amazing, love this music.
One of the best things on UA-cam.
Timeless!
Roger and I are very good friends. RIP. I Have that yamaha dx100
This is goddamn amazing. Still watch this at least once a year.
Who’s here in 2020? Amazing performance
Working for Denver promoter Barry Faye I set up a lot of times for that at McNicholsl arenaI meet Roger Chapman on several occasions I met the whole family down there in McNichols arena and the only ones I always had an attitude I had a problem with Larry so yes I believe Larry you always had an attitude about something so yes I believe the story heard the story 2 days after it happened the same story
Back when BET was relevant.
God damn. I dare you to equal this level of Funk. You can't? OK, sweet, we both agree. Roger is the Electro Funk Don. NEXT
SouLProvideR..Well, and truly stated..Peace
SouLProvideR..Well, and truly stated, your 100% right.. Peace ~~
He is a great entertainer and he is from my time boy do I love his music and also Zapp and Roger he is so proud of how the group has continued what they all have started I am glad that they all no God he is and will always be with them Rip my brother your music keeps u here with us I listen to old school most days and always on weekends Roger you are missed so much by family, friends & most of all our fans!!
Make no mistake. I like Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars' ode to this time period with "Uptown Funk" but nothing beats the original. This sound, this music, this group is who they are borrowing from and Roger was a musical genius. I remember watching this concert and taping it. R.I.P. Roger Troutman and Roger Troutman II.
God i wished to have this concert in HD. Do you know where one can get it in better quality?! True about Mark Ronson it's just a worse interpretation. My theory about music has always been that you steal from something you love, but make it even better. Unfortunaly that's not the case with Mark Ronson and Bruno. :/
I agree. Unfortunately, this was not released on DVD/Blu-ray so this taped video is all there is.
Do you still have the video?
