For the age of this clip and considering it's live, the quality of the sound and mix is freakin' amazing! I hope Sammy and Neal continue to rock us for many more years.
@@thomassunkel9229 I was only talking about the quality of the mix. Their ability and musicianship is without question. I really don't understand how you thought that I was insulting their chops. Of course these guys could play! They still outplay guys less than half their age today. We didn't have one too many 'shrooms today, huh? Read what I wrote again. Sober, this time.
I’m collecting all the versions of “A Whiter Shade of Pale.” Indeed this gives me chills as it is so pure and beautifully done. The lyrics are right on and the background sounds are magnificent. #1
Wow. This was amazing. I clicked on this video by accident, and saw a hair band, and I was about to click back when I heard their sound... Great rendition of the song!
loved hsas from day one.if anyone has missing you by hsas please let me know i have been searching with no luck thanks and by the way 5 stars for one of rock n roll's best cover.
Never saw them live.l saw journey neil. Was hitting on all cylinders that night.and those songs became the live album.the whole band was like a well oiled machine.perry was impeccable.neil became top ten guitar material.they lived up to all the hype.
This is amazing. Sammy, when he is on, is the man. Love the original but Sammy and Neil just took this and made it theirs. This is one of those classic moments you only get so many of in music (or anything, for that matter). A HSAS reunion would be fun. Maybe with Michael Anthony?
"I Never, Ever Get Tired of Hearing This Song!!!". What a fantastic compilation, and understandable. I totally Enjoy this Entire Album. Thanks for this. HSAS Rocks!!
I owned the LP when it came out, copied it on cassette and played it endlessly in my car. Later owned the CD, so lucky to have that stuff collected, Schon's solos all so cool! Hopefully will find the videos on dvd too one day...

Really man? I mean, we all know the this classic Procol Harum song was heavily Bach influenced, but you can't credit the band that wrote the song? LOL!
@@GeorgeTel100 LOL! that's pretty funny. First of all, this is not a direct rip of Bach. More inspired by. Secondly, you can't be called out for stealing when you have openly admitted all along what your inspirations were. Gary Booker has always been very clear about that. "If you trace the chordal element, it does a bar or two of Bach's 'Air on a G String' before it veers off. That spark was all it took. I wasn't consciously combining rock with classical, it's just that Bach's music was in me." Here is the Bach piece that is generally cited as the inspiration for the song. ua-cam.com/video/GMkmQlfOJDk/v-deo.html works
Just seeing this now,...I picked up this LP album at a record show about 20 years ago,....for 5 bucks....got it home flipped it over, Sammy and the band signed their name by engraving the flip side and dated it 1984...my HS grad year....Don't think the guy I bought it from , knew what he had. Had to be a promo given to the radio stations here in Detroit. Scared to play it...don't wanna scratch it
Many musicians believe that this is a Perfect song ever! I guess because it's originally by J.S Bach. I know it was made to this song by Procol Harum (Fisher/Brooker) in 1967 But Neal, Sammy, Kenny n Mike make it even better in here. And I bet if Bach heard Neal's guitar today, he'd love it. HSAS all the way...I loved this band the 1st time I heard them on Q102 Tx best rock...Dallas...good ole days Thanks for posting!
Love how Sammy doesn't even flinch when that lady grabs him. Nowadays an artist would stop the whole show and give an hour long lecture about "personal space"...or do a walk off.
Well at this point in Sammys career he had been in Montrose, a solo artist and this side project when Journey had the singer quit. He had been a performer for almost 20 years... Lmao. I'm sure this scenario had happened many times..
I just bought this cd for five bucks. I loved this tune when it came out when I was in 6th grade. Listening to the whole album Schon wanted to flippin' rock out and he tempered that impulse to forge Journey into the polished, stylized hitmaking machine it was. I love Journey, don't get me wrong. But I think Schon had a Page or a Blackmore inside him and that if this album had broken big, we would never have heard Raised on Radio. He would have been competing with Whitesnake and Def Lep.
I've been looking for years for this version of this song (wasn't finding it via "neil schon whiter shade of pale"). Stumbled on it while reading about sammy hagar on wiki. woo hoo!
Sammy hits my stage @ the Joint-Tulsa this Friday! Wish I still had this album to get signed! Then to have Neil sign when Journey gets here later this year!
Re the disagreement here between nealkang and swpaul04: You are 100% mistaken, nealkang, and swpaul04 is right. This was not the "Van Halen audition for Sammy" in any way, shape or form. Sammy's audition for VH happened ~ 2 years AFTER this HSAS show when Eddie's Lambourghini (car) broke down and he was at the repair shop talking to the mechanic (Claudio) about how Dave had just split and they were looking for a new singer. Claudio also worked on Sammy's car and said to Eddie, "call Sammy!"
@pugggs I'm not a drummer, but do you know who the drummer is? It's Mike Shrieve from the original Santana band, played at woodstock. Check out the solo during Soul Sacrifice. Shrieve is incredible. Don't judge by a youtube video.
This verson of this song is my favorite. I like it more than the original. Which doesnt happen much. This song is the perfect example of " You can make any subject into a hit song"... A waiter telling scary stories in a restaurant and scared a female patron.... Lmao
Best cover EVER!! And Sammy is still rocking’ in his 70’s. Mad respect

The album tracks are all from these shows . They never went into the studio .
This is a great cover by a band that I wish had done more stuff together.

Thank God they did this tune. Reminds me of when rock was great and america even greater, more free. Great days.
I was always hoping for some more work from this group. OUTSTANDING
