I worked in a movie theater when this was released, and I'll never forget how quiet and upset audiences were at that ending. People left the theater like they were leaving a funeral. But just like John Doe said of his acts, this movie became studied and discussed and they couldn't deny the significance of what they saw.
Yep. Saw it opening night. The silence as credits rolled was deafening. No one even moved for several minutes. It was like if we spoke or stood up, something terrible would happen.

I definitely disagree. It's a grand ending, very dark. When so many movies were predictable, Fincher (and AKW) gave us "Se7en". And remeber, next year this movie turns 30. Different times. If you watch the beginning intro again, with the Trent Reznor music, you can see scenes of John Doe doing his stuff. He is cutting the skin from his fingertips with that razor blade. He is writing in those journals they found. He is preparing the glue solution that will be used in the "Pride" victim. He is sewing up and doing finishing touches on the leather apparatus used in the "Lust" victim. He is taking pictures, presumably of the "Sloth" victim, Viktor. He is reading about how to 'torture' his "Gluttony" victim, and has just started in on his "Greed" victim. The director had him come on set in secret, and then lie there, pretending to be dead, for like 45 minutes or more. Poor SWAT guy nearly had a heart attack XD
"The world is a fine place, and worth fighting for. I agree with the second part." One of the best lines in movie history and I agree with it more every day the world gets worse and worse. @Kat your anger and heartbreak was EXACTLY what we all felt when we first saw it
90´s had the icons of horror/thriller/cop movies, few examples like Morgan had Kiss the girls (with Ashley Judd) Denzel with Fallen (Donald Sutherland) and Bone Collector (Angelina Jolie) Keanu with The Devil's Advocate (All Pacino) It was a nice touch that Kevin's name wasnt on the open credits, to not put the audience in some suspecious idea that he was the killer.
An absolute mind blowingly well made movie. Keeps you engaged and on edge without blatent blood spilling for shock value. One of the best thrillers ever.
I remember one time. My 90+ year old gran called me up to help her record a detective story. "Sure nan," I said, "what is it about?" "Oh it's a film called Seven!" "Oh Nan, I'm not sure you'll like that, it's a bit gruesome." "Is it?" She exclaimed "oh I don't like gruesome murders - I like nice murders." Instantly I conjured up every Miss Marple, Poirot and Murder She Wrote episode we'd ever watched together - and I knew *exactly* what she meant. She died 6 years later, but I shall always remember her voice over the telephone: "I like nice murders!" It's a very good job no-one was listening to her confess. Anyway, Seven top movie but it's not in any way "nice".
My friend was really shook after we saw this on its original release date, and we had go to Dennys afterwards to talk. I was fascinated and couldn't stop writing about it. After many years, I've come to the conclusion that the movie's core message is about the transfer of love through the ultimate sacrifice. William and John Doe are both exceptionally smart and therefore aware of all the pain in the world; but best they can do is keep their distance and scorn it. David and Tracey come the closest to a love that can remain hopeful enough to bring life into the world. John Doe is essentially saying: if your love is legitimate, heal all of us who suffer in our sins. True love would be willing and able to accept crippling loss and still transfer it to worst of the worst. Since David is unable to act beyond his own ego's conception of love, the reality of a transcending healing love is made ever more clearer, yet even more elusive.
I follow at lot of reaction channels but this is one of my favourite on UA-cam. Along with Caped Informer. Not too much talking. Just light-hearted fun! ♥️
When I saw this in the theater, I jumped about 5 feet in the air when the Sloth guy coughed when they found him. Brilliant screenplay and great performances, and you were entertaining and made a great reaction vid, as usual.
I saw this as a rental and that scene damn near gave me a heart attack, a very worthy jump scare. It's right up there with the "testing" scene in The Thing.
I've commented on several of your videos by now. I don't know which one you're actually going to see, so again; I just want to complement you on how awesome it is to watch your reactions from like 1 year back until most recently. You are so much more in control of your fear and jump scares. It is absolutely admirable. I've personally watched Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, and actually much more in the first even the first 10 years of my life and I am completely desensitized, so I absolutely appreciate an honest view.
Love your reactions, and thanks to you, i say "that's the real horror of this..................", in every day situations! Lots of love from the UK. ❤️🇬🇧
Se7en is one of my absolute favorite movies of the 90s because it had an uncompromising vision and style and it wasn't afraid to let the bad guy win. This was my very first Kat reaction video btw and now Im subbed UP😊. I gotta say, your facial expressions coupled with your random arm flailings are just... priceless. I can't wait to delve into your back catalogue. This is gonna be a lotta fun!
I like that you're starting to move from horror to thrillers. Silence of the Lambs and now Seven! Both amazing movies. The ending in this one caught me way off guard my first time watching.
Seven had one of the biggest jump scares I have ever experienced in a theater. The guy on the bed still being alive. I felt this sensation in my knees that made me want to run out of the theater. I had to force myself not to. As always, recommending “Malignant”.
KAT I WILL WATCH ANYTHING YOU REACT TO! I stumbled upon one of your videos last week and have BINGE WATCHED almost all of your reactions. My goodness as much as it’s funny that you’re scared of horror films, I loved seeing you express your anger in this reaction! Please feel free to react to other genres of film/tv shows because you have brilliant deductions, you’re super down to earth, & hilarious! 🤍
Hey Kat! Seven is an absolutely fantastic movie. It's so well written and the choice of actors is perfect. I love how, throughout the movie, you get to know each of them well enough to understand how and why they think the way they do. To have an ending where the bad guy actually wins was also a great choice. A great reaction as always. Have a fantastic day, take care hun. ❤
Hey Kat! I love your videos, you're hilarious! I hope you'll be flattered to know that my two favorite things to say now are "Dont like that!" and "Nah ... nah ... nah"
I remember seeing this in the theaters and after it was over we just sat in the parking lot discussing it forever. We wound up driving to Denny's to warm up, get food and keep on talking. I think it was just that none of us wanted to be alone because it creeped us out so much.
Great reaction! This was the first Kevin Spacey movie I ever saw, and I cannot see Kevin Spacey in any movie without seeing his character in Seven, haha.
@KatWatchesHorrorMovies This was such a beautiful reaction., possibly the best I've seen in months. Your keeping up with the plot, talking at the right time when giving hilarious commentary and real raw reactions that show how immersed you are, all while looking gorgeous the whole time. Please consider doing a reaction to The Butterfly Effect, is a dark mystery much like this and always makes for a great reaction and i feel it would be perfect for you. If ofcourse you haven't seen it already. If so, Creep is also quite a great movie i always recommend.
If you go to 35:15 in this video, you'll see the super fast subliminal frame of Gwyneth Paltrow that Fincher cut in as Brad is agonizing over the fate of his wife. Great reaction, although not a horror film, but a great suspense thriller, much like "Silence of the Lambs". I was a little mad when I saw this in the theatre because in the scene where Mills yelled out his name and address at that journalist/photographer, I just knew it was going to lead somewhere. Then, when Tracy told us she was pregnant, and the box showed up, I pretty much knew it was either her head or, even more horrific, the fetus. But, either way, that whole "What's in the box?" scene might be my favorite performance by Brad ever.
Also horrible to realize that Doe probably had to kill Mills' & Tracy's dogs too 😭 Dogs that big would be protective of their mom and wouldn't have let Doe hurt her without a fight.
This movie is a thriller with horror elements. Sadly people kinda forget that horror is not just jumpscares or gore. Anyway... I always imagine that Doe did put the fetus on the box, it makes it even more macabre and horrific vision, if Mills had saw it. Plus it would make him more aware of the horrors that Tracy had suffer before her death. Envy made Doe go over the top, to push the wrath in Mills even more...
Hi Kat!!! I just wanted to pop in and say that I have watched every single one of your videos and it’s the highlight of my week. I have a couple suggestions for you. The first one is called, “You’re Next” (2011). The next one is called, “Ready or Not” (2019), and finally, “The Hunt” (2020). keep up the great work and hopefully I’ll be able to catch your reaction to one of these movies. Have a wonderful rest of your week!
One of best dialogue pieces was in the police car with John Doe. Kevin Spacey may be a creep in real life, but man can he play the bad guy with an expertise I've never seen before. So well cast, acted and David Fincher's brilliant directing. I usually say "fun reaction" like I usually do, but that ending as brilliant as it was, was not fun. One of the best detective/crime drama's ever made.
You do realize that Kevin Spacey was found not guilty on all nine charges brought against him? I'm not surprised that it wasn't more of a headline since the media likes to report more on dirt than the truth.
The 90's was such a great decade for movies, arguably the last great decade. As well as this masterpiece there was the likes of Silence Of The Lambs, Terminator 2, Heat, Jurassic Park, L.A Confidential, True Romance, Thelma & Louise, The Matrix, Pulp Fiction, Saving Private Ryan, Fight Club, Schindler's List, Fargo to name just a few. The role of John Doe was uncredited when Seven first came out at the insistence of Kevin Spacey himself, he was a well respected up and coming actor back then and he wanted his appearance to be a surprise for the audience.
Glad you finally got to watch this, and glad you liked it! Great film. Fincher is a hell of a director. 'Zodiac' is another terrific and horrifying thriller. If you ever do series - 'Mindhunter' is a series by Fincher that's amazing.
A true masterpiece. Loved the reaction. Your intelligence and humor are entertaining. The stunned silence at the end was the same reaction most of us had the first time. Keep up the good work!
You're my favorite reactor...always very lively and you seem to always know when to talk and when to watch and absorb the movie plot. Also your witty reaction to things that I would have never thought would be so funny .
Wow. There's hand models - voice actors - stunt men and models... is there facial expression actors??? Because you have mad skillz. You are the most expressive "reactor" I've seen on the Tube. Kudos!
I was very glad you decided to react to this movie. This is one of my favorites, although I realize that sounds a little macabre. Your reaction was great as it is to everything that you watch. The style of writing and lack of overreaction on the detectives and by the killer himself elevates this movie way past creepy and unsettling and pushes it directly in the unadulterated evil category for me. I think it's a masterpiece and one I try to watch at least once a year. It's very close to a perfect movie, like Silence of the Lambs, for me personally. EDIT: I want to go ahead and wish you early congrats on what I anticipate will be a few short weeks before you hit your 50k award button. I have no doubt you'll reach it quickly, and you've become one of my favorite reactors. I always look forward to your posts, and they always make me smile, so keep up the great work. Much love and best of luck from Texas!
This is my favorite thriller from the 90s. Dark and atmospheric, Fincher does thriller SO well. His other thriller offerings are worth checking out as well. The Game, Gone Girl, Fight Club, Zodiac. I wouldn't called Fincher's work "horror" per se, but a lot of them have a horror feel, so I say definitely include them on your reaction list. :)
Kat, very wonderful reaction. Your comments, analysis, speculations, predictions, were, as usual, the reason you are one of the best in this genre. I saw this when it first came out. Swore I would never, ever see it again. When reactors started seeing this movie, I broke my promise to myself. I was shocked to my very core the first time. It still packs a punch everytime. I cry and I am a mess at the end, everytime. Kat, you are absolutely right. This is a masterpiece.
The incongruous moments of humor make this an even more amazing movie. Like when Pitt says "the Marquis de Sharday." I consider this superior to "The Silence of the Lambs" because of the relentless dark tone, and the fact that there's no Catherine Martin walking away holding Precious at the end. Brilliant.
So glad you did a Se7en video - I LOVE this film! Fincher is great - the dimly lit atmosphere is wonderful. At the beginning, Morgan says "Well, over the next SE7EN days, Detective, you'll do me the favor of remembering that" I was surprised to see you didn't edit the LUST blade weapon thing ! That ending is iconic & really stuck with me too (I would have pulled the trigger too). BRAVO Kat - keep em coming !
The funny thing is, he spent years setting up this project, but then just pivoted at the very end and made it all about a guy who’d just moved to the city!
@crumblebee6728 He says in tge phone call that Mills forced him to "move up [his] timeline" and change things. I think part of that is revenge for the stairwell encounter.
I like your whole reaction channel...it's one of the best ones so I must recommend to you...and just trust me on this...one day watch Oldboy (2003), NOT the American remake but the original Korean. And of course best to go in blind....I GUARANTEE it will be one of your most epic reactions...just based on how you respond to certain films. Anyway...take care and keep that one in mind. :)
David Fincher directed ALIEN 3 before SEVEN. The film is divisive (to say the least), it has one iconic scene: Ripley is trapped, the alien is inches away from her face as it slowly protracts it's tiny mouth... *spoilers* But for some reason, it lets her go. The audience is left confused until we learn the sad and horrific truth about Ripley's fate. Seven came out just three years later and Fincher used the same storytelling method. 19:22. The killer has Brad Pitt, yet he's spared. It makes absolutely no sense until the final act. Personally, I think that's brilliant filmmaking. We are given little clues. The ending is a shock, but there are signs and clues given throughout the film. GREAT movie!!!😁👏👍

"The world is a fine place, and worth fighting for. I agree with the second part." One of the best lines in movie history and I agree with it more every day the world gets worse and worse. @Kat your anger and heartbreak was EXACTLY what we all felt when we first saw it
Great reaction 👏 You should also watch Copycat which came out the same year as Se7en. Same genre and also great movie.
36:03 "-Ernest Hemingway once wrote: 'The world is a fine place and worth fighting for.' -I agree with the second part."
This movie is a masterpiece! A truly heart wrenching and disturbing masterpiece!
90´s had the icons of horror/thriller/cop movies, few examples like
Morgan had Kiss the girls (with Ashley Judd)
Denzel with Fallen (Donald Sutherland) and Bone Collector (Angelina Jolie)
Keanu with The Devil's Advocate (All Pacino)
It was a nice touch that Kevin's name wasnt on the open credits, to not put the audience in some suspecious idea that he was the killer.
Omg I need Kat to react to Kiss The Girls right now!
"Fallen" is awesome. Highly recommended for Kat.
All excellent movies. But I have to say Fallen is one of my all time favorites. The storyline is simply fantastic.
All great films...
Unpopular opinion, but I personally would add 8MM to the list... It's not perfect, but still a great nail biting, tense thriller
For the same reason, he also didn't appear in any pre-release publicity for the film.
An absolute mind blowingly well made movie. Keeps you engaged and on edge without blatent blood spilling for shock value. One of the best thrillers ever.
„IT MESSED WITH MY HEAD“ - Brilliant thumbnail Kat😂❤
Had a ball watching along with you, thanx for the smiles.
i just found this channel last week, and i can say these reactions are one of the best reactions on youtube! your vibe is so good 👏👏
The fact we only see the aftermath and some witnesses accounts of the crime makes it more disturbing then actually seeing the deaths happen
I remember one time. My 90+ year old gran called me up to help her record a detective story.
"Sure nan," I said, "what is it about?"
"Oh it's a film called Seven!"
"Oh Nan, I'm not sure you'll like that, it's a bit gruesome."
"Is it?" She exclaimed "oh I don't like gruesome murders - I like nice murders."
Instantly I conjured up every Miss Marple, Poirot and Murder She Wrote episode we'd ever watched together - and I knew *exactly* what she meant.
She died 6 years later, but I shall always remember her voice over the telephone: "I like nice murders!"
It's a very good job no-one was listening to her confess.
THIS is a PHENOMINAL movie..... for MULTIPLE reasons...... ty for watching it...
When I saw this in the theater, I jumped about 5 feet in the air when the Sloth guy coughed when they found him. Brilliant screenplay and great performances, and you were entertaining and made a great reaction vid, as usual.
Me too. I saw this in theaters a couple of times.
oh yeah, I forgot how freaky that moment was!
I was totally stoked on seeing your reaction to this Kat!!!
Love your movie choices and can never wait for more! Another wonderful reaction. Thank you!
This thriller film is a classic. Great reaction! 👍🏿
I've never received a strange package and not cried out, "What's in the box???"
You don't want to know. It's a secret!
FACTS haha
Me too I think it's against the Law not too 😆
Even when I know what's in the box I still say it
There's always that question in the back of your mind: is the delivery driver giving me head 👍
One of my favorite movies of all time! Even after you know the twist at the end, it never gets old. Fantastic performances by everyone involved.
The opening credits are perhaps the best ever put to film.
You ok there, kid?
Yes, that flick's in a class by itself.
Thanks for the unparalleled work you do.
♡🖖
@KatWatchesHorrorMovies This was such a beautiful reaction., possibly the best I've seen in months. Your keeping up with the plot, talking at the right time when giving hilarious commentary and real raw reactions that show how immersed you are, all while looking gorgeous the whole time.
Please consider doing a reaction to The Butterfly Effect, is a dark mystery much like this and always makes for a great reaction and i feel it would be perfect for you. If ofcourse you haven't seen it already. If so, Creep is also quite a great movie i always recommend.
"...that's the real horror of this movie...". I love those comments/jokes! Yessss! Keep them coming! I heart your rxn videos, Kat!
Kevin Spacey. That's the *real* horror of this movie.
You do realize that Kevin Spacey was found not guilty on all nine charges brought against him? I'm not surprised that it wasn't more of a headline since the media likes to report more on dirt than the truth.
Exactly, they hire a REAL creep to play a creep.
WHAT'S IN THE BOX!!! Classic. Glad this one made your list to watch.
Kudos!
I come here for that smile, and stay for the genuine, fun and enthusiastic reviews! ❤️
I already know this is going to be legit.
I absolutely love the way John Doe screams the word “Detective!!” when he comes into the station. It gets me every time
"seven what?"
TRAUMAS
💯 😂
Your facial expressions are amazing, I barely even remember to pay attention to the movie!
I love watching you watch movies
Kat's face when it ended is just like my face when I saw it for the first time. Yup, a masterpiece.
I like the idea that cops shave their chests before they make a big arrest, just in case they happen to be shirtless in any ensuing photos.
This was an amazing reaction video. So many times I thought you were going to cry. Not from sadness but just from the intensity.
One of my personal favorites! Cant wait for de twist! Something is amiss...
Brilliant.
Brad pronouncing Marquis de Sade like the name of singer Sade Adu is so funny!
I think he really did that cause he probably doesn't know how to pronounce it.
I wanna talk to you too - suggestions for the best locale ?
When you rush home from work early because Kat is reacting to "Seven"?😮 awww...man this going to be good.🍿👀👏🏾
"What's your favorite meal?" really made me lol. Kat's little jokes really make her reactions so good
Envy and Wrath were the final 2 sins. A once in a lifetime movie.
@@Deathbird_Mitch the set back is them discovering his apartment
I want to see the Lifetime movie of Seven.
Absolutely phenomenal reaction.
An ending that stays with you.
*spoilers*
But for some reason, it lets her go.
Another classic. 😂👍
21:09 Your face😂😂😂😂
Great reaction. Seeing you stunned with the movie at the end was pretty cool. Seven is so good and it gets better every time you see it.
