- We fly to make sure we are safe but sometimes we can't predict what will happen. Mark and I had just been climbing out following our little trip to Lake Windermere when "that" moment happened. His engine just stopped, but what going to be the result and where was he going to land. The funny thing about a PeaBee with the ADAM wing is they want to come down even less than the FOX13 wing, so Mark actually had all the time in the world.
I hope this video inspires more pilots to note that you don't need to go fast, you don't need a Rotax 912, what you do need is mates to fly with to make the journey fun.

What a super safe machine you have there and as Mark said if the donkey quits there's no better aircraft to be in! This is just the best little video series Giles, fantastic fun. 👏👏👏

I had something similar when I was flying my Parajet with a moster 185. Heard a nasty bang, then the engine ran like crap, would rev and was very lumpy. I cut the engine and landed out.
A short while later the engine started and ran fine. Clive reckoned it could have been carb icing?
Hi Sandy, I still remember the video that you made on that very flight. I do remember us chatting about it. Personally I've never experienced Carb icing on my Moster but that could just be luck. Glad you are enjoying the video, more to come. I do need to catch up on your Bike tour videos.

Well done Giles another Great video ! Especially enjoyed the low level over coast and amazing views of lake district. Noticed you were pulling on to vatch up ,was your Hang Point further back than the Ben and Marks or are you lighter?
Hi Peter, we were all in the same hang point, I had a battern pop on the trailing edge which was causing my HOT to be slower. It was resolved on the next leg. But Mark is much heavier than I am.

Hi Sam, I used to but have recently removed it ( it was located behind my head). I have the headbox which gives me easier storage. It is a risk not having it now.
@@GolfFoxtrot22 Luckily these are pretty strong aircraft. It is fairly rare for a delta wing to fail in flight and usually only happens due to radical aerobatic maneuvers or not assembling the wing properly, or maybe neglected inspections and maintenance. From what I've seen, I'd never fry a paraglider/paramotor without a reserve. I've been pondering whether I want to continue flying with my reserve. I probably will. Better to not need it and have it than the other way around.

@@huffdaddy3845 I have thought about it a lot and yes, structural failure would be the only need for it. I always do a really thorough preflight and check flying wires. All the other aircraft ( flexwings) that I fly have similar set ups. Yes with paramotoring and paragliding, reserve is an absolute MUST HAVE. See you in the comments next week. @@GolfFoxtrot22 "structural failure would be the only need for it." Structural failures that have occurred that can arguably be unpredictable include mid-air collision and sail damage from propeller failure/propeller strike.

Beautiful scenery. Engine failure or mechanic failure? LOL As Mark pointed out, loss of thrust in a light single place trike is almost a non-event over farmland. Happy it all ended well. 😊
Definitely mechanic failure, though I don’t know if I’d describe the lakes as farm land 🤔
Or you could call it pilot induced mechanical failure 😂

Thankful you didn't get wet. I'm not a UK native so my vision of the UK is farmland with green grass. I do live a sheltered life. Guess I need to visit. 🤔 My idea of lakes is something like the state of Minnesota, USA. 😁
@@GolfFoxtrot22 LOL that works. Preventative maintenance that prevents you from flying. I believe a Brit named Conrad Waddington researched this issue during WW II. Interesting work.

Oyyyy! Dont knock the quikr. 😢 I need something fast enough to keep up with fix wing pilots because trike pilots here wont mingle. Also the distances I cover during an adventure, I like to land before ~dark. 😊
Hi Stewart, I suppose we look at it from a teaching perspective rather than speed but even then, it's hard work for me in the rear seat. 70 mph it's OK, any faster, as you know, it just gets heavy and more rough. I don't know how you cope with your thermic conditions.
@@GolfFoxtrot22 I often talk about the thermic conditions here in my videos. I can't imagine from the back seat though. It's even warm and thermic here now - middle of winter. I should get a gyro 😁

@@Graham_lee as you might have seen in some of my earlier videos it's how I started as well. I seriously don't regret it as its definitely opened my flying weather window going down the Sub70 Flexwing route.

The weather window is the issue and reason I would now like to go down this route, Im so impressed with the Pbee and its ability to take off and land in such a short distance and its ability to withstand turbulence that I would struggle with in the paramotor. How was it landing and taking off in the thermic conditions?
Hi Gayle, no issues at all. Because the controls a light it's nothing that those conditions wouldn't stop me. The next question is do you have to? But that's a personal comfort question.
Is the Peabee the only one that folds up to put in a vehicle or can the BivvyBee fold too?
They can all fold up. The Adam is only one that has the retracts. The wheels still fold in on the others, you just have to remove a pin.

Hi Giles, I got a response from Michelle, but it’s been a while. She was waiting for some of the supplier costs to settle down a bit, but hasn’t gotten back to me yet. I’ll send her a reminder. On another note, I’m glad that Mark told us that it was a loose spark plug cap. It drives me crazy when someone has an engine out and then never tells you the cause. Thanks for the excellent video! Particularly liked the beach footage.
