- I hope this video inspires more pilots to note that you don't need to go fast, you don't need a Rotax 912, what you do need is mates to fly with to make the journey fun.

I believe that house at Strathaven was featured in Ch 4 Grand Designs
Hi Timothy, thanks for commenting and confirming. I only discovered when I asked Ben after we'd left. I wished I'd known when we were there.
What a great wee flight! It’s pronounced Straaven up in this neck of the woods…lol
Hello and welcome to the channel, yes I was made aware of my pronunciation error once I landed. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Hello from Florida... Well good, what a brilliant example of why we all fly and the joy of sharing it with mates... Top Vlog in Gods country LOL Strathaven, is pronounced Straven.
Hi Neil, thank you for your support as always. It was made fun by flying with others. Why is it not spelt the way it is said?
@@GolfFoxtrot22 because we’re Scots 😂
Oh how do you cope with the burden ;)
@@GolfFoxtrot22 it’s a job, but hey what can you do.
So enjoying this series Giles and looks like everyone else is too. Brilliant mate 👍
It certainly seems to be well received. Thanks for the recent advice.
Scotland looks an absolute pleasure to fly over, definitely planning some para-camping expedition soon 😍
It's beautiful.
Really great video Giles. Looks like amazing fun and I agree, I think the house featured in one of the Ch 4 Grand Designs.
Hi Tim, it was quite funny, Ben did tell me straight after I made the comment, but I thought I'd leave it in. Colin, the chap in the video is the owner of the house. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Giles as always a really enjoy view. Watched it first on the `Big telly,` and the quality is excellent. Then realized I cann`t comment, your enthusiasm and enjoyment of the flights really comes across in the videos, appreciate the work you put into making, KEEP them coming.
Hi Stuart, thank you for your kind words. I do enjoy sharing my (our antics). I still have you St Athan video to watch. At Athan takes me back to when the VC10 used to have the Major servicings carried out there. I'm just finishing up the late episode. Thanks again for taking the time to comment.
Another cracker. Now I have to wait again. 😁😁 Sod it. I'm putting in an order for the box set 😂
Oh crikey, I best start work in the next episode then Paul.
It's absolutely brilliant Giles. When 15, 18, 20 minutes flashes by in the blinking of an eye then there's no other way to describe it. It even makes me want to load up the Blade and go somewhere. Looking forward to the next one.
Get that blade out Paul, pack the tent and head off.
Fantastic footage of your epic journey, Giles. Brilliant to watch. Already looking forward to the next! 👌👍👏👏👏
Hi Kevin, it was great getting to Balado and I still can't believe what we achieved. I best get editing now.
Yet again Giles “out of the park” what an adventure. Fantastic scenery, I liked seeing the three of you together shots. I’ve looked forward to this all day. Well done the three of you. Got to have some of this.
We will get you airborne Ged. It was an amazing trip.
Bloody brilliant … well done fellas! 👏👏👏
Cheers we need to catch up next time I'm back home.
Fantastic yet again mate 😁 We can play 'spot the Sassenach' thanks to not calling Strathaven 'Straven' 🤣🤣🤣 Ironic you've flown over landmarks such as the Falkirk wheel and Stirling Castle and I've yet to 🤣 They are great places to visit when earth bound too! I asked for PPR for Balado when the Apache's were there, but it was a no. Ah well.
Is Straven a bad way of saying it? I am surprised that you haven't flown round the landmarks as they are so close.
@@GolfFoxtrot22 Straven is the correct pronunciation. Welcome to the wonderful world of Scottish pronunciation! Mind you, even we get it wrong sometimes - i.e. Gigha vs 'Gee-ya' 🤣 In Ayrshire there's Culzean Castle - and weirdly it's pronounced 'Culane' Castle. Pity the poor soul learning English and then coming to Scotland thinking they've got it sussed 🤣
@@InducedBank haha, yes, the joys of local dialects.
Great video that looked like a fun leg. I'm sure the house on the airfield was on grand designs. I am looking forward to the next instalment
Hi Lee, I only discovered once we left, it was pretty cool to look at. I hope all is well.
@GolfFoxtrot22 Yes, all good, hoping for another weather window when I'm not at work🤞
Hi Giles. Wonderful adventure and amazing views. Thanks for sharing this trip with us. I managed a flight today, but after 20 minutes of wrestling with the turbulence was grateful to land safely. Still waiting for calm conditions…. Cheers John
Hi John, awesome that you went up in those conditions.
cracking vid giles....great to watch....can't wait for this weather to sort itself out and get some flying in🤞
Hi Shane, I hope you are keeping well? Yes the weather has and is a bit pants at the moment. I'm hoping for an Indian summer now.
Grand Tours !!!! Sign me up for a bit of that.
And Mrs B as well.
Luvly Jubbly 😃 ... well done all of you 👍
Hi Brian, you'll have part 4 tomorrow. Good timing.
@@GolfFoxtrot22 ... yep ... I'm a bit behind on my 'watching UA-cam' videos lol
Great video Welcome to Scotland What fun you obviously are having.
Hi Al, we're we anywhere near you?
@@GolfFoxtrot22 Actually its only about an hour and a quarter by car no idea re flight. I would have loved to drive down just to say hello with some Aberdeen Rowies for you guys.. Dundee is just an hour from me by car...I guess Insch in Aberdeenshire is the closest microlight airfield in the North East but may be wrong as don't know what is available. If you do it again next year and the Balado pilots allow me I would love to say hello. My colleague of old Colin McLean flys from East Fortune I think...
Al, it would be a pleasure to finally put a face to the name as you have been supporting my channel for so long now. What are Rowies?
@@GolfFoxtrot22 The Hairy Bikers when they came to Aberdeen featured making them as they thought they were outstanding. "A hidden Gem" Sadly not that health as made with a lot of Butter salt flour, rolled to a bun type shape then fried till crispy.. They are slightly salty but very more ish Once tried you would be hooked.. They do do a vegi one but I have never tried that as they tend to be sold out in the shops... Fantastic with Jam and deadly with melted butter. Next time you visit the North I will get some for you and the team.
Fantastic and a very polished video Giles, great editing work. It was almost emotional to see you guys arriving at Balado, epic adventure and I hope to be on one with you all in the near future. 😊
Hi Rab, it was absolutely brilliant to finally get there and be greeted by you all. Balado is an amazing airfield to fly from.
Lovely flight. Imagine that with a 9m!!😮
I think it would be a different kind of fun. The Adam wing is so easy to fly. Sharing the skies with others just makes it so much more fun.
@@GolfFoxtrot22 for sure ‘Captain Slow’ 😂😂…. Sorry
Yep that's me.
Can’t stop watching your adventures mate, MAGICAL 👍
Hi Fred, let's have some magic back at Darley Moor airfield.
A great video Giles! Loved it 👍🏼
Thanks Geoff, I think you'll like the next one as well.
@@GolfFoxtrot22 I’ll be there! 👍🏼
Your support is always appreciated.
Looking an awesome adventure - loving the formation-ish flying. I think the next one will be interesting too :-)
Flying though Edinburgh was breathtaking.
Just ridiculously epic. Loved this (and the whole Grand Tour concept). Watched this as you were landing at DM, now it's almost time for another flight with you. See you in half an hour (and I promise not to take 30 minutes of the lesson to RELAX!) 🙂
Hi Dan, it was a good weeks flying and I'm glad you got as much flying in as you did. Until the next time.
Brilliant fun for you. I must try to get some time off and do a bit of a trip like that. Lets hope for next year.
This had been in the evolution for a while but was worth the effort in the end. Where would you go next year?
@@GolfFoxtrot22 in the past I made plans to go to Perth shire and Wiltshire but the weather messed up the plans and as the leave was used both opportunities got lost. I think it would be nice to get a couple of others and go anywhere with a stop over but I don't think that is as easy as it should be.
@flyingkub I think that is what puts a lot of people off. It probably why so many like the Fly UK trips.
Very good and so much easier than paramotor launches. I want one BUT...I aint selling my motorbikes:)
You like your bikes too much don't you Sandy.. Haha.
Awesome 👌
I think awesome is probably a good word to describe the 2 days.. Still more to come
@GolfFoxtrot22 looking forward to it 😁✈️
Loved it 👍
Hi Patrick, how are things over there?
@@GolfFoxtrot22 Good but still rebuilding trike - new target date early Aug
@@patrickmckowen2999 please keep me posted.
Nice one Giles.- good fun to watch and a ‘bangin’’ soundtrack too!
Thank you Paul, the joy of Epidemic Sound, loads of tracks to choose from. I never thought I'd see those words come from you... Haha.. "Bangin".
Scary big distances!
Well done 👍
Hi Blue, it was good to have the tail wind but yes, 2 hours for 90 miles. We actually did 185 miles in 6 hours on that day, but that's the next episode.
The airfield house was on Grand designs!!
Hi Thomas, I discovered after we'd left but thought it was a nice little piece to leave in the video.. Colin was such a nice chap.
@@GolfFoxtrot22 I have just found your channel and this grand tour is honestly such an amazing view. Learning to fly is a bucket list item for me.
@@1990tomjones hi Thomas, I see you found me on Instagram 😁. Life is too short, follow your dreams. I hope you enjoy the older videos, you'll then see the longer journey I've come through. I'm still a flying geek at heart.
Must be great to fly over all those landmarks such as Stirling Castle. Also spotted the Wallace memorial and you must have gone over the Kelpies. I love flying over well known places around my way such as Belvoir Castle and seeing them from the air.
Hi Nick, I hope you are keeping well? It was great to see them all. I must have missed some of the ones you mentioned. How is the Flying going?
@@GolfFoxtrot22 The Wallace memorial was in the background of one of your shots and the Kelpies are quite near the wheel. Despite the weather, managed to get a nice flight in last Thursday between rain showers. Had a great time skimming along the top of the sea bank between Boston and Wainfleet in the last hour before sunset, only just getting back to Boston as the sun went down.
I bet that was just beautiful. Thank you for pointing out the bits we missed. So much was going on and not knowing the area didn't help.
Appreciate the stills, the rolling terrain & the boat lift are wonderful. Mates are good but it would really be cool to have a 912. 😉
Hi Doug, yes to all of the above, except the 912, I can't afford to run a 912 they are just too expensive.
@@GolfFoxtrot22 Roger that
grand designs house
Yes. I had no idea until we'd left.
Wind turbine = a ground version of a sky blender. See & avoid 😲
The problem was, they were literally EVERYWHERE!!!! It was hard to avoid them.
@@GolfFoxtrot22 😳😳 sorry to hear there are so many. Nuke is less of an eyesore, more reliable and provides a great windsock in the cooler months. 😄
top banana guys .
It was a cracking trip.
Great video,
I know a lot about airplane wings with different airfoils types.
Does this & hand gliders have a traditional airfoil wing?
Hi Michael, It's is a traditional airfoil with a camber and undersurface. I'm guessing the 'hand glider' was a typo😁
What is your practical range in the Peabee on one tank of fuel? Also, if you detailed what Ben and Mark are flying I missed it. Could you point me to it?
Hi Tom, the tank will hold 25 litres as a licensed machine (microlight) at a 6 litre per hour burn rate, that's 4 hours with a flight speed of 45 mph would give you a rough idea of what distancea can be flown. Ben has the same machine a I do, a Peabee2 and Mark was on the Raptor which is a Peabee2 with loads of upgrades and a different wing scheme, but it's still an ADAM wing. I hope that helps.
#flywithfriends
It was definitely that for the trip.
I know it is counter-intuitive, but Strathaven is pronounced, "Stray-ven".
... just to be even more confusing, Strathallan isn't pronounced "Strallan" !! :D
My point exactly....haha
Are there still JPs at Balado?
Hi Drone and Sundry, there was one static one just as we taxied in.
Strathaven is pronounced " Straven" ;-)
Hi Peter, I have to remember that for the next time. The joys of an English speaker with a Scottish dialect. Albert brief it was good to finally meet you at Balado.
@@GolfFoxtrot22 Relax Giles ;-) I am only just getting to grips with Scottish pronounications after 23yrs up here.
Colin McKinnon at Strathaven ("Straven") is a real asset to Scottish Aviation, when the 2 Ukrainian Microlighters crashed their Quik at Glenforsa (Mull) Colin was very quick to loan me a Bespoke Quik Trailer & his 4x4 to recover them.
I have known Colin 22yrs & he has always been supportive of anyone that visits Bonnie Scotland.
What is up with the house?
Have a look for "Grand Designs" at Strathaven. Apparently it was on a big UK TV show called grand designs. Colin the Scottish chap with the mug in his hand, was on the show when he had the house built.
@@GolfFoxtrot22 Ahhh, cool 😎
Thanks for the tidbit.
