  • Former President George W. Bush has carefully steered around the subject of Sarah Palin during interviews about his memoir. But his mother, Barbara Bush, aka the "Silver Fox," is showing no restraint.
"I sat next to her once," Mrs. Bush told CNN's "Larry King Live" in an interview that also included her husband, former President George H.W. Bush. "Thought she was beautiful. And I think she's very happy in Alaska - and I hope she'll stay there."
Palin is weighing a run for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination, telling ABC's Barbara Walters last week that she thinks she could defeat President Barack Obama. She has a book, "America by Heart," coming out Tuesday and is starring in a reality TV show, "Sarah Palin's Alaska."
A Quinnipiac University poll released on Monday showed a close contest between potential Republican candidates for 2012, with Palin gaining 19 percent to 18 percent for former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and 17 percent for former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee.

Former President George H.W. Bush and his wife Barbara sat down with CNN's Larry King recently for an interview that is scheduled to air on his show Monday night.
During the interview, King asks the former first lady for her opinion on former Alaska governor Sarah Palin, who is considering a run for president in 2012 and recently said she believes she could beat current President Barack Obama.
"I sat next to her once. Thought she was beautiful," Barbara Bush told Larry King. "And she's very happy in Alaska, and I hope she'll stay there."
The Bushes also discussed the Tea Party movement, which Palin has been a big part of. The former president said he believes "some of the ideas make a lot of sense," but he is confused by it and how it fits into the big picture.
If Palin does decide to run in 2012 she apparently won't face any competition from Democrat Hillary Clinton, who told "Fox News Sunday" host Chris Wallace that she does not plan to ever run for president again.
"I am very happy doing what I'm doing, and I am not in any way interested in or pursuing anything in elective office," the Secretary of State told Wallace.

Republican U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski says she doesn't think Sarah Palin has the leadership qualities to be president, nor the "intellectual curiosity" needed to make good policy.
Murkowski shared her take on the matter during an appearance on Monday's edition of "CBS Evening News" with Katie Couric.
"I just do not think that she has those leadership qualities, that intellectual curiosity that allows for building good and great policies," explained the incumbent lawmaker when asked about a previous suggestion she's made that she wouldn't support Palin for president. "You know, she was my governor for two years. And I don't think that she enjoyed governing."
Elaborating on her view, Murkowski continued, "I want somebody that goes to bed at night and wakes up in the morning thinking about how we're going to deal with our national security issues, how we're going to deal with our economy, how we're going to deal with providing better education or peace in the Middle East."
An e-mail sent Monday from The Associated Press to Palin's media team wasn't immediately returned.
Palin, a former vice presidential nominee, resigned midway through her first term as Alaska's governor last year. She's seen as a potential 2012 presidential contender.
Despite their differences, Murkowski she says she's still Palin's senator and will "work hard to represent her, too."
