I like how you show, like it is for me, things don't always go to plan A, and requires thinking and trying stuff until something works. Some other videos encourage unrealistic expectations, and heart break and frustration. Thanks for showing reality. 👍
I have been following you for a while now, first time in comments, lol, but I was wondering if you could please show how to do princess seams for a bigger busted plus size please. love your work .
Super impressed. The way you covered the inside zipper turned out so professional looking! I'm so entertained by being able to see how you handle the "hiccups" we all experience sewing a garment. Zipper dyeing was fascinating. I 've been frustrated with the quality of JoAnn zippers, too...and it's what has stopped me from sewiing certain designs in the past (AKA..the hoodie) thanks for the alternative online recommendation. *a future idea: I'd love a cute peasant top pattern..one where you can wear it off OR on the shoulder, and that has sleeveless or sleeved options...just a thought if you're ever bored 😉
Thanks so much, Carolyn! Yes I avoid the metal zippers and "heavy duty" zippers at JoAnn if I can stand it. And I love the idea for the convertible peasant top!
I put a hood on my first attempt at this pattern..shouldve done a dummy first.. but was encouraged to see you had to make adjustments to the bodice like I did. I didn't have a zip & couldn't wait so used stud fasteners. I really like the way you 've added the pieces to enclose the zipper seams.. I shall do that next time! Thank you for the tips, really good video. 👍
Thanks for watching, Viv! I feel like every time I make one of these I change it a little, because I have to make it work for the supplies I have on hand (because I'm impatient 😅). Glad it was helpful!
thank you so much! I really appreciated how you went through each step not skipping anything and talked about why you did what. I love the princess seams
So funny. I have a big head, too. It inspired me to start making hats and now I have dozens of hats that get rave reviews from my friends and family and even strangers! Hats are a quick sew and use very little fabric.
Yes! I actually just made a hat this week haha (planning to share it here on the channel soon). Very occasionally I will find a hat that fits, but most of them literally sit on the top of my head 😅 won't go down without intense effort and discomfort!
Love it. This looks pretty advanced for a newbie but it’s definitely on my list. The princess seams make a big difference in the overall appearance. Perhaps you have other (simpler) tops with princess seams?
Thanks! This is the only one with princess seams in my pattern shop at the moment :) I also have the Fern Top pattern...it has a divided bodice, but they aren't really princess seams. That one is pretty beginner-friendly!
Of course! I did a whole series on my blog about my process and materials here: patternscoutstudio.com/blogs/tutorials/making-a-jasika-blazer-part-1-getting-started?_pos=2&_sid=161b4e0c1&_ss=r
One more question, are there specific needles for knits? I was a little confused by all the options at Joanne’s. Ended up getting an all purpose needle on the advice of the store associate.
Yes, you can find "jersey" or "stretch" needles that I would recommend for knit fabrics. I've noticed I get fewer skipped stitches when sewing knits with a stretch or jersey needle. But in a pinch, the universal needles can do the job. :)
The pattern is meant for knit/stretch fabric, so faux fur may not be ideal 🤔 unless you have experience working with faux fur and want to size up and give it a go! In my experience, faux fur is best with fewer pattern pieces so there are fewer seams to deal with 🙌

You bet! Thanks so much, glad you find it helpful!
This is so great! I especially loved the tip about using a strip to clean finish the edge of the zipper tape. I can’t wait to try this!
Thanks Danielle! Yeah, I kinda wish I had added that to the pattern instructions now. It makes the zipper feel more complete!
@@PatternScoutHi I'm looking for a pattern for a mens cloak but with arms and only down to knee length. Is this something that even exists? Thanks.

Your explainations are really good

You are such a great seamstress!! Enjoyed your video!!❤️
Thank you so much! :)
Great tutorial. I love that you also show your mistakes.
Thank you! Oh yeah, I make plenty of mistakes :) Happy to share!

So glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
Love the jacket! How much fabric do you need for this modified jacket? Would 24" zipper fit? Do you think fleece works on this pattern?
Another great video! Found your channel from Ripstop. I sew bags and learning canvas but your videos are awesome! Keep it the great work!
Thanks so much! I used to sew bags myself (for a previous business), so we have that in common :) Glad you are enjoying the videos!
So helpful, thank you very much
I'm so glad! Thanks for watching! :)
Casey can you recommend a a dress form for advanced beginners ? Love the hoodie 😊
You know, I hardly use my dress form (one day I might invest in a good one). I got mine for cheap on Amazon 🙌
This was fantastic, thank you! I learned so much from you
Thank you, so glad it was helpful! :)

@@PatternScout I just purchased the Hana pattern. Thanks for the video on downloading patterns. Super helpful 👍
I like it.
This is lovely and makes me want to get good enough to try it. Question, would you have to have a serger to do this project?
Thanks! You can definitely do it without a serger, you can just use a zigzag stitch on a regular sewing machine. 🙂
I would love a pattern of the jacket you put on top of hoodie 🥰
That is the Jasika Blazer pattern from Closet Core Patterns :) I love it!
@@PatternScout thank you 😊 could you tell me the fabric you used

detil & inspire
could i do this with a non stretchy fabric. I have just bought a leopard fur print fabric however it is not stretchy
This pattern is for stretchy knits, so I wouldn't recommend non-stretch unless you found another pattern. :)
Would this be easy enough for me to make outta faux fur?
The pattern is meant for knit/stretch fabric, so faux fur may not be ideal 🤔 unless you have experience working with faux fur and want to size up and give it a go! In my experience, faux fur is best with fewer pattern pieces so there are fewer seams to deal with 🙌
