Bakhmut was founded in 1571, and received city status in 1783.
Before the Russian invasion in 2022, the city was the center of Ukraine's salt industry and a railway hub.
Back in 1950, the largest enterprise in Eastern Europe for the production of classical sparkling wine "Artwinery" was created in the plaster tunnels of the city. Nearby was the largest underground concert hall in the world.
In March 2023, "Putin's cook" Yevgeny Prigozhin, together with the Wagner group militants, took part in the looting of the plant.
During the battles for Bakhmut, the city was destroyed according to minimum estimates by 80%.

Yes, it's sad... and this is just one city, there are dozens of such cities. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of villages razed to the ground. So recently Russian viewers have been so outraged, now tell me what kind of person you have to be to do something like that? There are over 109,000 documented war crimes, what do you think about it? And they are also outraged that when they go abroad, people throw them out... I say, I'm Polish and I know what Russians are like, I know not everyone, but the belief in propaganda is so deep that it's hard to believe that we live in the 21st century. How can you believe the nonsense they are taught, children in schools familiarized with weapons... this is barbarism and paganism. @@Amalung54 Russia never liberated Indonesia from Japan, Indonesia became independent through its own struggle, Indonesia even became independent because of the influence of America which attacked Japan so that Indonesia easily defeated Japan in Southeast Asia. Russia's role at that time was to help Indonesia with military weapons, which at that time no other country had helped apart from Russia. It was thanks to the help of weapons that Indonesia was able to repel and stop Japanese, Dutch and British colonialism from Indonesia. We will never forget Russia's help forever. And we really understand who the real criminals are, because America and England have also tried to attack us. but they failed because at that time we already had very sophisticated weapons from Russia

During World War II, Indonesia was occupied entirely by the Japanese until the bitter end, so till August 1945. The Dutch then wanted to reactivate their colonial rule. However, only a few fighting occured between the Dutch and the freedom movement, because the Indonesian freedom movement, although owning supremacy manpower, never was no match for the battle hardened Dutch troops. Only after the intervention of US President Truman were the Dutch forced to give up their colonial empire. Where the Russians were supposed to be in this event is a mystery to me. Apparently historically verifiable facts aren't your thing.
@@Amalung54 It's funny if you know more about the history of Indonesian independence than the Indonesian people themselves :) I agree that eliminating colonialism is very difficult, it took 350 years, but do you know why it took us so long to become independent? For 344 years we fought with traditional weapons, obviously we lost the war so at that time we were colonized, but did you know that we were also given the same weapons? It only took us 3 years to expel the Japanese and it took us 3 years to expel the Dutch, and do you know what's funnier? with the same weapons we only need 6 months to thwart American and British aggression :) who are trying to colonize us again. And we are grateful to Russia for all that... because when we were colonized only Russia gave us real weapons... it's very funny if someone says that Indonesia's independence was a gift from the colonial country :). Одна из причин всего этого ( именно одна и причём не самая значительная) , это когда на Украине в совместных военных учениях Украины и США , из воздушного пространства Харьковской области ( это граница с Россией ) американские стратегические бомбардировщики отрабатывали (имитировали) ракетное нападение на Россию , в частности удар по Москве ! А там подлётное время считанные минуты ! Это явная угроза безопасности ! Украина же сейчас неофициальный штат США , без команды из Вашингтона там ничего не делается .
