Good bit, but man… as someone from California, that impression of Newsom was void of any noticeable trait other than being male and having hair brushed back. He has a distinct voice and would be thing that would make the performance. It’s voice and (theatrical?) passion.

We have managed that without causing a recession, and our economy is currently doing and recovering better than any other large modern country on the planet.

The actor playing Gavin Newsome didn't seem to make even the slightest attempt to do any kind of impression of Newsom's distinct halting speaking style or sound of his gravelly voice. It's like he's never even seen any video of Newsom speaking. I'd call that either lazy, or incompetant acting. Who's picking what actor plays what role. Is it only based on looks. Plenty of current and past SNL cast members would have nailed Newsom, including female cast members, so why this guy when he can't be bothered to even try, or just can't do it? Bad choice SNL.
Yeah, it was pretty lackluster. SNL impressions like this are the worst. Very dry, two-dimensional, and boring. This was nothing more than the cast member speaking in his own voice, reading from a cue card.
