- Some of the highest-flyers in NBA history brought their talents to St. Louis on July 4 weekend, 1986. Here's our report from their pickup game under the Gateway Arch at the VP Fair, featuring interviews with Michael Jordan and Dominique Wilkins.
Imagine rolling up to a park and seeing these two playing a pick up game. The 80’s were absolutely nuts. What a time.
Rucker Park kept that tradition going
The 80s were great but the 90s not so much.. arguably the worst decade ever when it came to *poverty,* crime and low wages. Mainly poverty..

@@whoisthat5144 i was gonna say the same thing. Back then we had to be creative. Playing outside was a hobby. We were always playing around the neighborhood with the other kids just being imaginative minded. Just the best times of my life no doubt about it.

Julius Erving really made an impression on kids during his time. He is such an inspiration and a good role model.
I was at a game where Dr. J was butt naked and he jumped and slapped his junk on the backboard. There was nut grease all over that thing. After the game they took down the backboard and he signed it for the kids
Saw him walking through the ATL airport last summer. I told my grown son "There goes the GOAT Dr J"
He came to the boys and girls club when I was young... He was cool as hell but I just remember how tall and large his hands are... Alex English also visited us... He was cool also...
Meanwhile he tutored the round mound of San Antonio.

I’m trying to take in everything of that time. Looking at the clouds, the trees, the people and their attire. Just think, this was almost 40 years ago and the thing that is really different is the lack of technology to where everyone is really focused on what they’re watching. Two hall of famers putting on a show. Amazing time.

I promise you, that 3 year olds today will talk about how simple and easy going life was in 2020 and 2022. 1968 was a terrible year with the Vietnam War, assassinations and political corruption, but what do children of that time say? How it was all roses and peaches for THEM.

Adult Kevin Arnold recalls life in 1968, but he only remembers his little world of starting "junior high/middle school", a baseball pitcher throwing a perfect game, etc, etc....all the other stuff didn't matter to him. That's how kids today will see 2020, "life sure was simple back in those quaint days of the 2020s, afterall we were only 4 f'ing years old!"

Sadly he was just one dimensional. He was showtime only. He never developed as a balanced player and he was inconsistent. Michael brought his a-game every night but Wilkins you just never knew.

‘Nique and Mike in 1986 just putting on a show at the park... The two greatest dunkers in the greatest decade!!! I just realized, Lenny Bias had just passed two weeks before this was filmed, and that’s one of the biggest “What If’s?” in the NBA... (for me anyway)
if len bias and reggie lewis were playing on the celtics... they would have easily scored the celtics at least another 2 championships during the rest of 1980s/early 1990s.
