When you interview Demond Wilson make sure you ask good relevant questions. Also make sure you are a good listener. He is a guy that sounds like he does not like to repeat himself. So as an interviewer, you need to be on the top of your game.
Agreed!
Also make sure you have done your homework so your questions to him will come from an informed place. Worst thing you can do as an interviewer is irritate him with a stupid question.
It’s about time someone checked these guys at comedy hype. Their interviewing skills are horrid. The whole staff. All this talent they are able to get to stop through and they aren’t getting better at. Watching them interview is so frustrating. You want them to get better at it, but they aren’t.
It’s in a different clip but Demond tells him you didn’t do your homework then tells him to shut up and listen 😂😂😂 it was classic
Also, don't be smoking weed before an interview. LOL. Dude's attention span is penny-thin.
As old as Demond is, he is much sharper in the convo than this young cat.
Demond said Redd showed his entire arsenal, meaning A$$ and the interviewer said ….showed up late? Good Lord🤦♂️
I didn't peep that. Slick wordplay on his part.
@@mrjooxmanallahLmao!!! The interviewer is a step behind!🥲🥲🤣
@@theagbamanI’m rolling on the floor kicking my legs in the air 😂😂😂
Gotta admit, that kind of threw me as well. If he would've said his whole arse, I would have gotten it right away. But when he said arsenal, I was wondering if he meant Redd Foxx gave them his entire stand up routine. LOL.
@@theagbaman WAAAAY BEHIND!!!!😖
This interviewer was in over his head for this interview. This ain’t no gossiper he interviewing. Demond Wilson is a legend. You gone have to come with some serious journalism for an interview like that to be respected and taken seriously.
Absolutely! He was not ready for such and intelligent mature no nonsense individual. All his answers are measured and properly articulated. While he is being interviewed, he is studying the interviewer and I think this has got the interviewer uncomfortable.
He seems ill prepared for this interview.
I totally agree.
The Coach in me wanted to pat him on his back, sit him on the bench, and tell him there were other games left to play. He was way out of his league. Very uncomfortable
the interviewer was not born yet when sanford and son aired on prime time TV. Interviewer is still wet behind the ears.
Desmond schooling the interviewer… hilarious..😂
Demond ain’t no joke..Brother been on point since bell bottoms
His Redd Fox voice was on the money 👍🏼
His Redd Foxx impression is hilarious 😂😂😂
It sure was 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 best I ever heard
🤣😂 You ain't never lied.
So good, right? Better than Pat Morita's, even!
Points in conducting an interview: 1) Research the subject (interviewee), 2) Listen good before asking your question (the answer may come up in the response, 3) Actively listen and listen for any nuanced response, and 4) Just listen.
Yep, at one point in another clip Demond even admonished the interviewer for looking at his notes instead of listening and having a conversation with him.
There's a host on Fox News (Bret Baier) who does a lot of big interviews. He follows your suggestion #1, but other than that he doesn't listen good at all. Just goes down his list of pre-formulated questions no matter what the person has just said. So many times a person says something that just begs for a follow up, or a simple "What do you mean by that?" but it all just slides by, the opportunity lost forever. Worst thing is, bad interviewers don't seem to know they're bad!
This video is a prime example of the disconnect with these young ''journalist''. They have these scripted questions and responses in their head and they turn off their listening skills to anything that involves more than a sound bite. Demond was very clear and concise in this interview and its sad that the interviewer clearly was not listening.
EXACTLY!!!
He looks 40 something. That's not young
Why is he so argumentative? I mean he’s arguing with somebody who’s not arguing with him
Exactly
It’s was definitely a learning experience. Wasn’t perfect but he held it together.
I love how Demond just yells at the interviewer over and over again-- all that was missing is Demond saying "YOU BIG DUMMY!"

He was so slow it hurted my brain he couldn't keep up
I was thinking same thing😂😂😂😂
I know we’re hearing some flaws about Redd Fox, which it’s so great for Demond to share that candid info with us. It just shows that no matter who you are and what you try to hide, trouble can find you too. I’m going to elect to remember the great things about Redd and that is, he played the role of Fred Sanford to absolute perfection. A Legendary Classic!!!

@@markjones5757 ...was he? Demond seems a little brash and annoying. Obviously there's some animosity. But Redd has more fans than his kidd.
@@ronedeeI agree. And it could be a lil jealousy too since Redd was indeed the bigger star.
@ronedee Of course Redd has more fans. He was the star of the show and one of the most Legendary Comedians of all Time, but that still doesn't mean he was the sharpest knife in the drawer. There are at least two documentaries on Foxx that I've watched, and one thing all his "friends" seem to agree on about the old legend was, Bad with money and beats up women. I doubt if Lamont has animosity towards someone who is no longer here and hasn't been here for what, maybe 30 years? Mr. Demond Wilson doesn't give many interviews-I feel like CH dropped the ball BIG TIME with this interview.
CH dropped the ball BIG TIME!!! The interviewer seemed like he didn't understand anything he was saying. CH probably won't get another celebrity of this caliber again. I could see Demond's frustration. It's a shame CH didn't get a quality person for this particular interview.
I agree.
It’s obvious the interviewer wasn’t paying attention. To busy fishing for the dirt and drama. 😂
Exactly, this wasn't an interview, it was a bait session for juicy clips and Demond sniffed it out real quick and let the interviewer have it.
1:39 “Arsenal” is the clean version.
We know it was just actors in a sitcom, but it was like we really knew these characters and it played so real. Art imitating life.
Yea, I still watch this show twice a day…and we do know the characters well but we don’t know the actors….how could we? That’s what good actors do is convince you they are those characters and we suspend our disbelief for a brief time believing that those characters really exist. Hell, when I was a kid, I always wished Fred Sanford was my grandpa….but not Redd Foxx because even then I knew he was just acting and that these actors show up for work like everyone else and do their part and then go home just like any other job.
@@juliegood7999 In a way those characters do exist, because they did exist. Acting, in this case and most others, is a reenactment of human behavior involving humans about humans. Exaggerated or not. exactly-if you are going to do an interview one of the things you need to have is listening skills, and do your homework before you interview someone especially if you are interviewing someone from back in the day day.
Yup .. great comment
I feel sorry for the youngun but Demond deserves a professional for what he knows and where he's been.
As a seasoned journalist, I agree with the comments about the interviewer being in over his head. Many of the people conducting interviews these days are not trained journalist and don’t know what journalism is. It’s very sad. I’ve interviewed a number of celebrities during my time as a reporter, including legends such as Harry Belafonte, Smokey Robinson, Robert Wagner, Dick Gregory, et al. I knew exactly what Demond meant when he said Redd showed his entire arsenal and not in a good way. I thought he las going to say he showed his entire you know what. But I got what he was trying to convey. I wonder if the interviewer read Demond’s book? I didn’t see the entire interview so he may have indicated that he had read it. That should’ve been part of the preparation process.
He doesnt sound to bright and yet sticks to his narrative lol......Demond is kicking his ass.
I gotta' keep it 1,000 here. The reason why alot of BM don't get anywhere is because of their damn egos man. You're were about to get 500k Redd and blew it. Sometimes you gotta' be humble and just take what you can get. I totally understand what Demond is coming from.
Desmond Wilson is that black man that demands black excellence from you. . He may comes across as abrasive but he comes from an era where he had always be on point. He means well. My genetic professor was exactly like that. Love that woman to do death til this day, but wanted to choke her out the first week. 😂She demanded our very best every day. Nothing less than that. People like that respect you when you do your due diligence while never putting forth mediocre efforts. They have absolutely no tolerance for excuses. They make you better.
FACTS!
Wow.
I know the feeling of trying to help people and end up getting burned. You feel bitter to the core.
The interviewer didn't get it when Demond said Red Foxx showed his whole "arsenal" instead of "arse" an old slang term for a$$.
My dad is like this now. He doesn’t explain things fully and then when you ask him a follow up question, he gets annoyed and angry. He wasn’t like this until recently.
Unfortunately they couldn't close that deal. I still watch Sanford and Son episodes to this day😂
This guy is a great interview. He reminds me of the men from my childhood. They told stories differently.
Demond Wilson needs hewn channel, podcast, etc.. the stone cold truth. 100 uncut truth. respect
Mr. Wilson comes off quickly as a man worthy of respect. If I were an interviewer, I certainly wouldn't want to get on his bad side.
Respect for what? I see an angry bitter man who's only claim to fame is a show from 1970s
the man doesn't suffer fools gladly. clearly.
Why didn't demond say how much he was going to get for the special??
He had no problem saying foxx turned down $500k but didn't say how much he was going to make.
I caught that too. Quick to tell a story about someone else with details who is not here but leaving out his own details about the same story
He gestures with empty hands.
In another interview he said Foxx asked him that question and I think he said he got up and left. He was obviously angered, and offended about the whole thing.
It’s so crazy too cause Redd’s whole ego was money driven, there was one point in time he was being paid the same amount of money that Archie Bunker was making for All In The Family and the network didn’t want to give it to him at first but still did anyways cause the success of Sanford And Son. So hearing this it’s believable for sure because I think Redd always felt if one network wouldn’t give him the money another one will and that’s where his downfall started
As a kid in the 70’s, Sanford & Son was the most understandable and relatable sitcom for a kid to watch. Simple characters and stories but a complex power dynamic.
The interviewer should have,at least, read Demond’s book before interviewing him.
His impression is spot on lol
I have watched this series of interviews. Even though they are brief, Mr. Wilson (I do not call him by his first name out of Respect) is very articulate, much more so than his character as Lamont. I think that Mr. Foxx was most times his own worst enemy. He had a Big Guy persona and a lot of people took advantage. I remember a few episodes where Lamont just wanted out, wanted something better. Those episodes were so heartfelt and realistic. I had always wondered what had happened to him. Best Wishes to him.
Him doing his ‘Redd’ voice. 😹 True Legends. ♥️
His Redd Foxx Impersonation was dead on !!!😂😂😂😂

The interviewer was ill prepared. He was very ignorant of who he was interviewing and didn’t take the time to research or maybe even read the book or bio thoroughly… I’m using the word ignorant not as a dig at the interviewer himself but in its true sense.
@@sconiersclan I totally get what you are saying and you are speaking truth… but Demond still could have used a lil’ more GRACE. Redd has given me and my family decades of laughter. We moved down to Florida to have my mom who was in her 90s move in with us.
Many nights the 3 of us sat watching Redd and Demond in Sanford and Son reruns. What wonderful memories I have of looking over at my mom in her chair as she watched Redd and laughed.
She passed away in her room here in 2018, but I will always remember those nights watching her favorite 3 shows, The Waltons, Golden Girls, and Sanford and Son. Then she would gracefully retire to her room and tv, thoughtfully giving my wife and I some alone time.

'Sanford and Son' was a show my dad and I both liked. Out of curiosity I discovered that he had comedy records and some material from his club comedy that was pretty explicit. I guess this is the 'entire arsenal' that Desmond referred to. I also remembered watching 'Cotton Comes to Harlem' at the drive in when I was a kid but had forgotten I'd already seen him before Sanford and Son. I was surprised later to hear that Redd had financial struggles later on. Crazy how life is sometimes. I always liked Grady's expression from that show. 'Good gobble-dee goop Fred!' I don't know why but it tickled me. Now and then when somebody told me some crazy story I'd reply 'Well! Good gobble-dee goop'.
One of my favorite shows growing up.
It's clear Jon was out of his depth talking to someone like Demond, especially after he was fed up with Hollywood and wants nothing from it. He showed up unprepared, didn't pay attention, and asked irrelevant questions. I don't blame Demond for getting frustrated. To me I saw two things from this terrible interview: Demond was able to provide authentic responses, and "hopefully" Jon learns something about doing proper preparation and listening. Too many UA-camrs think they can just turn on a camera, wave some money around, and wing it in hopes of becoming the next Joe Rogan. But it ain't that simple.

Coming from a family of entertainers I can honestly say I know exactly how he feels. No matter how much money is offered to some folks, they find a way to let themselves get in between what’s being offered because they think someone else who doesn’t have the bigger name is gonna make more than them. I really don't understand why people don't get in touch with actual family members of Redd Fox. FYI I'm one of those family members of Redd fox.
The short answer is that podcasters like this seek out people who will generate views. If you or anyone else in Redd's family want to share his story from your perspective (which I'm sure there would be plenty of interest if done right), consider self-publishing a book about him, starting your own podcast, or doing a documentary about him. Next, get a publicist if you don't already have one and reach out to outlets that might be interested in letting you come on to tell your side of the story. Don't wait for media outlets or podcasters to come find you; be proactive by contacting them and make your pitch. Good luck!

Redd Foxx and Jean Stapleton have something in common. Both of them played sweet, lovable characters on Sanford and All in the Family, but I found them to be snooty and not very friendly as themselves when they were interviewed.
I didn't know Jean Stapleton gave snooty interviews.
Clearly, this interviewer needs to sharpen skills. Demond is succinct, he’s not going to draw the guy a picture when in fact, if you are listening, he puts together the story in a cohesive manner to a conclusion. At one point in these interviews I thought he’d say “what the hell is wrong with you, didn’t you hear what I just said”? I don’t know where the full interview is, but I have some questions I would definitely asked. Everybody has to start somewhere I suppose. I enjoyed listening.
