When you interview Demond Wilson make sure you ask good relevant questions. Also make sure you are a good listener. He is a guy that sounds like he does not like to repeat himself. So as an interviewer, you need to be on the top of your game.

There's a host on Fox News (Bret Baier) who does a lot of big interviews. He follows your suggestion #1, but other than that he doesn't listen good at all. Just goes down his list of pre-formulated questions no matter what the person has just said. So many times a person says something that just begs for a follow up, or a simple "What do you mean by that?" but it all just slides by, the opportunity lost forever. Worst thing is, bad interviewers don't seem to know they're bad!

Desmond Wilson is that black man that demands black excellence from you. . He may comes across as abrasive but he comes from an era where he had always be on point. He means well. My genetic professor was exactly like that. Love that woman to do death til this day, but wanted to choke her out the first week. 😂She demanded our very best every day. Nothing less than that. People like that respect you when you do your due diligence while never putting forth mediocre efforts. They have absolutely no tolerance for excuses. They make you better.

It’s so crazy too cause Redd’s whole ego was money driven, there was one point in time he was being paid the same amount of money that Archie Bunker was making for All In The Family and the network didn’t want to give it to him at first but still did anyways cause the success of Sanford And Son. So hearing this it’s believable for sure because I think Redd always felt if one network wouldn’t give him the money another one will and that’s where his downfall started

Even though they are brief, Mr. Wilson (I do not call him by his first name out of Respect) is very articulate, much more so than his character as Lamont. I think that Mr. Foxx was most times his own worst enemy. He had a Big Guy persona and a lot of people took advantage. I remember a few episodes where Lamont just wanted out, wanted something better. Those episodes were so heartfelt and realistic. I had always wondered what had happened to him. Best Wishes to him.

Many nights the 3 of us sat watching Redd and Demond in Sanford and Son reruns. What wonderful memories I have of looking over at my mom in her chair as she watched Redd and laughed.
She passed away in her room here in 2018, but I will always remember those nights watching her favorite 3 shows, The Waltons, Golden Girls, and Sanford and Son. Then she would gracefully retire to her room and tv, thoughtfully giving my wife and I some alone time.

I guess this is the 'entire arsenal' that Desmond referred to. I also remembered watching 'Cotton Comes to Harlem' at the drive in when I was a kid but had forgotten I'd already seen him before Sanford and Son. I was surprised later to hear that Redd had financial struggles later on. Crazy how life is sometimes. I always liked Grady's expression from that show. 'Good gobble-dee goop Fred!' He showed up unprepared, didn't pay attention, and asked irrelevant questions. I don't blame Demond for getting frustrated. To me I saw two things from this terrible interview: Demond was able to provide authentic responses, and "hopefully" Jon learns something about doing proper preparation and listening. Too many UA-camrs think they can just turn on a camera, wave some money around, and wing it in hopes of becoming the next Joe Rogan. But it ain't that simple.

The short answer is that podcasters like this seek out people who will generate views. If you or anyone else in Redd's family want to share his story from your perspective (which I'm sure there would be plenty of interest if done right), consider self-publishing a book about him, starting your own podcast, or doing a documentary about him. Next, get a publicist if you don't already have one and reach out to outlets that might be interested in letting you come on to tell your side of the story. Don't wait for media outlets or podcasters to come find you; be proactive by contacting them and make your pitch. Good luck!
