Patti told the truth about fantasia. Til this day I don’t believe fantasia has had that major break, the reason why Patti knows what’s she’s talking about because she went through the same thing and see how long it took her with her voice..
The song Patti referenced here: "If You Asked Me To" was first recorded by Patti and was even featured during the closing credits to the James Bond film "License To Kill" and became a Top 10 R&B hit for Patti, but only a minor hit for her on the Pop Charts. However several years later Celine Dion recorded it and it became a mega monster hit for her on the Pop Charts, the exact same everything was copied from Patti's version, a duplicate. The only difference was that it was a White woman singing it, and white stations had no problem playing it in high rotation; why not Patti? That was my experience as a Patti Labelle fan back in the 90s, I thought it was so unfair. And frankly, to me Patti's version is so much better.
Labelle and En vogue are my favorite girl groups! One of my favorite musicians in general! I still think Labelle is underrated, people seem to only know lady marmalade, as if they don't have 7 albums
Patti said in her autobiography Sarah nickname was fendt meaning a elephant never forgets and that Sarah remembers everything 🤣 but I always thought Sarah was The quiet one
When Nona said “no one could've sung Lady Marmalade at the time it was done except Patti” I heard TRUTH 💯
Thanks for the upload. R.I.P to Sarah Dash, flight high songbird.

Oh how I miss this show (Tavis Smiley). ❤ This is even more poignant, now that Sarah’s gone.

Correction I believe it was Nona who said it when her and Patti we're honoring Sarah passing and I believe Patty Jackson was the host
Thank you so much!
Do you happen to also have the Lady Marmalade performance from this?
no i don't.
Big void in RNB music
