Worst Mentors of Assassins (personal rankings) -
    1. Al - Mualim - Traitor to the basic tenets and the very core of Assassin's Creed.
    2. Abbas - Traitor to the basic tenets of the Creed, traitor to the Levantine Brotherhood and narcissistic bastard.
    3. Agate - Traitor to the Louisiana Brotherhood who preferred his secrets over the Creed.
    4. Mirabeau - Extremely weak and complacent who allowed Templar operations in Paris rather than limiting their influence.

@@speedhog58 Bellec ? No. Taking down the entire top echelon of the Brotherhood right when all surveillance into Templar activities was lost ? Bloody insane. Bellec had become a mad, unable to see the truth properly, if at all.
But Bellec was right in saying that Mirabeau was too busy playing politics than being an Assassin. He was content with the Templars infiltrating the French top echelon, while people like Altair and Ezio would have taken every measure to stop them from doing so.

He may not be from the games, but one of the worst Mentors imo is Xiao Han from the recent Forgotten Temple webtoon. Not only did he fail to prevent the Chinese Brotherhood from being purged, undoing all of Shao Jun's work centuries prior, but his solution is to find a Piece of Eden and use it to overthrow the entire Qing dynasty. It's a plan so nuts even Edward had to step in and try to stop him. Oh, and he also has no issue allowing innocents to die to further his goals. So yeah, Xiao Han is not only one of the worst Mentors ever, but one of the worst Assassins period.

For me, I understood what Xiao Han’s intentions. The Qing Dynasty was pretty oppressive towards the Han Chinese, and there were many groups such as the White Lotus and the Tiandihui who fought for a new dynasty. However, Xiao Han became so dedicated to eradicating the Qing that he forgot the very Creed itself, making him the same level as the Qing or a Templar. Though the story of him of “Overthrowing the Qing and restoring the Ming” continues, it is still important to remember, “those who fight monsters must not become monsters themselves.”

For me, it would have to be Abbas.
For al Mualim, he managed to keep the Assassins in line and did provide good lessons for Altair. Also, his motivations stemmed from the Apple's temptation and thinking he could end the Crusades.
Abbas, however, only cared about his vendetta with Altair. Every action he took was out of spite towards Altair. He led the Assassins to become lazy and ignore their conflict with the Templars. Killed those that were close to Altair like one of his sons and Malik. And he carried this grudge for the entirety of his life. While the Assassins under his rule lost their respect for him, mocked him, and quickly turned on him when Altair returned.

Achilles in my opinion his decision to go after the precursor box got thousands killed, his arrogance lead the the demise of the colonial brotherhood, his failures allowed the templars to basically rule over the colonies until connor became a assassin, he made the assassins lose their way and fight for a goal that was different from which many assassins before him would go against and he runs the assassins went a "my way or the highway" way of thinking which if you go against him you are basically going against the assassins which would either get you kicked out or killed

I strongly agree with the ending synopsis
If Altair hadn't stopped Al Mualim at the end of AC1...then most if not all the other mentors on this list would have ever existed...
Abbas has a slim chance if for some reason Al Mualim kept a mock version of the Creed in place and decided to use Abbas as a weak minded figurehead to keep order....and most likely brainwashed him to believe the new corrupt Creed's tenets
Other then that, the other characters may well have never been born...or at the very least would never have been part of the Brotherhood...let alone a Mentor

Achilles had no reason to trust Shay. In the brief interactions they had, Shay always did his own thing and didn't care what others said. So when Shay says "Don't go searching precursor sites" means very little. Plus by the end of AC Rogue Achilles realised that Shay was right. Something he would have done much earlier if Shay hadn't betrayed the Creed.
But Basim from Valhalla should be also in this conversation. Not having played Mirage, all I know about Basim is that he is searching for incarnations of Odin and the Hidden Ones are just a tool for him.

I would say either Al Mualim or Abbas. However, now that I think about it, Abbas became the man he is because Al Mualim told Altaïr to not tell Abbas the truth about his dad’s death, which he did anyways. And Al Mualim never confirmed nor denied the truth, causing Abbas’s hatred for Altaïr. Hell, in Revelations, Altaïr said that Abbas hated Al Mualim just as much as Altaïr. So had Al Mualim not committed these mistakes, then this domino effect would have never happened.

Achilles’s Brotherhood also involved dark actions such as poisoning New York’s population, working with bandits, attacking Colonel Monroe and his men despite there being a surrender, and flying flags with the Assassin symbol on them at their hideouts in New York. I kinda like how both Altair and Al Mualim switched role in the first game, Al Mualim reminded Altair of the Assassin's Creed (no pun intended) while in the end it is Al Mualim himself who lost the meaning of the creed and begin to do as he pleases.

I think Achilles isn't one of the worse ones; yes if he did listen to Shaw in Rogue then the Colonial Brotherhood wouldn't have been wiped out or him crippled and broken. Connor did bring hope back to Achilles by bring the Brotherhood back to life during the Revolutionary War and he also did die happy knowing what Connor did for him. He wasn't just a mentor to Connor, but like a father to him. Connor never really knew Haytham and Achilles did so much for him; even gave him his son's name because Connor was like a son to him etc.

I think agate is the worst mentor mostly just because of how terrible he is specifically as a mentor, al mualim may be terrible but he wasn't bad as a mentor, he made some of the best assasins like altair, and none of his actions made him less effective as a mentor, agate on the other hand would literately rather kill himself than listen to avaline

Hot take: Al Mualim isn't that bad.
Yes he betrayed the Order, but his teachings were genuine; he didn't preach a corrupt or diluted version of the Creed.
What Altair learned from Al Mualim & his downfall facilitated Altair progression into a revolutionary Mentor.

    For me it’s
    Excluding modern day
    American sect in general.
For the mentors we know of they did a pretty shit job in general
And though I agree with Al maualon being the outright worst as he almost single handedly destroyed the creed. The Americans are the cause for their loss.
The American branch was the branch by a large margin closest to their goal. The closest to destroying the templars, finding out about the isu, and freeing the world. outside of the time gorgetir was burned or Alfred betrayed the system (other two were not assassin controlled victories but outside forces). They almost did it. Then the sins of their souls hit back and they ruined everything and everyone at the finish line all because of fanatism

Al Mulaim and others we’re selfish power hungry bastard assassins. Achilles was complex. He should never been mentor he was not mentally fit to do so. Only if Achilles listened to the lone wolf Shay Cormac the assassins would have turned the tide in their favor. Achilles was willing to sacrifice tens of thousands of lives to one up on the Templars and resort to terroristic tactics on the people. Lone Wolf actually helped the Templars win the war based on what was right and what was wrong.

I still say it’s Achilles. At least with the others it was just a simple case of them being overall bad people, Achilles was a terrible Mentor due to absolute stupidity and pride.
He caused a continental catastrophe that killed thousands of people and destroyed their homes. He pushed away Shay, a loyal, guilt stricken comrade who was following Achilles’ orders which resulted in him betraying the Assassins and turning to the Templars; and wiping out the Colonial Brotherhood to the point that Achilles was the only one left. And it still took a decade for him to finally admit and apologize to Shay that he was wrong. All of that because one guy couldn’t admit that he was wrong and that he had made a mistake.

Honestly, Altiare has a strong case for worst mentor. I mean let's look at the facts. For the negatives of his case. Here you have a man who inserts himself into the position that in his brief time gets reduced from Mentor in all things to only Mentor in name because everyone knows that his wife's actually making the good calls. Good job Maria. For the positives. He stole all his positive ideas from Alexios, Biak, and Aya. As a means of managing the order, he's like Book Ned Stark regarding the position of Hand of the King. When Abias tried to usurp power following Al Mualim's death, make an example of him by exile or execution. Instead, he kept the scheming snake around and that snake kept scheming. When going to fight the Mongols either put your wife in charge or your eldest son and surround him with loyalists instead of leaving your son isolated without his powerbase. Had he done either of these options Abias would've at least stayed his blade out of fear as Maria and son would or command more respect as both Mentor and Assassin since they never once violated the Creed and Maria's decisions in particular raised the order to magnificence. And that if he did try, he would've most likely been caught and killed on the spot. Instead, Altiare puts his youngest in charge without even a basic guard and as a result, Abais kills the son with ease and launches a cue of the order leading to his own exile. However, Altiare could've maintained Abais's respect if he hadn't broken the Treaty of Britania. Which was designed by Alexios, Avior, Evior, Kasandra, and Alfred the Great to maintain eternal peace between the two orders. Something that he could've easily done by penning a letter to the Grandmaster's Council inquiring about Al' Mualim's actions. Which the council would've responded with the truth. "Although Al' Mualim was a Templar Intermediary between our order and the Assassins he acted alone in his greed-driven power grab and the treaty may resume as usual." Instead, Altaire ordered the Templar Order decapitated which long term only accomplished the renewing of hostilities and the Templars being more difficult to fight in the future.
