I’m 61 and just started this 3 weeks ago. Now my husband and boys are doing it! I feel so much better and sleep better since doing these. It’s helped with my arthritis- that’s the biggest reason I will keep doing it. I’m good at 59°. Not really doing any colder than that…. Well not for a while.

Man I love watching your videos. In an (online) world filled with people trying to catch your attention for their profits, you're one of the few channels that keeps it real. I am 26 years old but we have so much in common, both when it comes to personality, addictions, experiences, and spending habits; so when I watch your videos it's like having an older version of me telling me how to not fuck up while I'm still young, and as much as this might sound weird to hear from your side, I mean it in the best possible way

I was having cold showers for a few years. In the winter I went to the local reservoir. The water temperature was 7˚C. Biggest body shock I've ever had in my life. I thought the cold showers would have made it easier for me, couldn't believe how extreme it was being in water that cold. Need to get a setup so I can easily do it regularly.

So, is it better to do the cold plunges before you exercise? I'm almost 63 and my health is not good! Hey, but I came up with an idea for preparing the cold plunges at pennies on the dollar! All I'm going to do is take 4 clear plastic containers and cut them in half and use tap water and freeze them overnight in my fridge. Then, I will fill my bathtub with water (which is tap water) and then drop the frozen container in the tub and then let the torture begin! I'll let you know how it works out! Thanks for sharing!

Lol, there is no beginners guide for ice baths you just gotta man up and hop in bro, this isnt one of those things that you get used to with time ice baths are always going to suck and be challenging, but that is the beauty, feels amazing after you get out its the best health related hobby I've ever picked up, my version of coffee in the mornings I wake up at 5am and hop right in before a work out I can't imagine starting my day without it now, oh and about the bathtub that's how I started out if you have a big enough bathtub that you can fit your whole body up to your neck just fill that mother up and dump 2-3 bags of ice, don't think about it, don't contemplate it, don't plan to start next week, just do it

I was skeptical about cold baths as well. But, I started doing them in January. I used to have trouble sleeping but now I do 30-45 minutes in my sauna and I go from the sauna to my ice bath, which I am now up to 6 minutes in, and my mood is so relaxed and happy after. This is unusual for me, I’m normally a worrier. I sleep like a baby too. I have been using the Rubbermaid tub for months. Now that it’s getting warmer in MA I am looking at upgrading to a chest freezer. All my aches and pains are gone. I am not sore after going to the gym anymore. I tell everyone about ice baths and everyone thinks I’m crazy. But I don’t see myself stopping.

The sauna and ice bath combo is known as ‘contrast therapy’. Try doing 3 cycles next time. 15 minutes at 150 degrees ore more in the sauna followed by 5 minutes at 55 degrees or less in the ice bath. 3 cycles. It’s incredible.

    Thank you for your testimonial,
I realised that I was becoming chilled, and I wasn't exercising any more, and before I heard about cold baths and Iceman... . I started doing 3 things (perhaps a good preparation for ice baths):
1/ Take cold showers (16.5°C, and as winter arrives it goes down even further 🙂 after a few minutes I don't feel the "cold" any more)
2/ Walk to work rather than take the bus (after the one hour car journey) 12mn walk in a T-shirt, bare arms, no bonnet or gloves, just an umbrella just in case 🙂 (I've had 8°C and 6°C from time to time and after 10mn walk breathing as calmly as possible I didn't feel the cold any more and it became pleasant).
I lowered the air-conditioning in the car to 18.5°C (I was at 22/23°C) for the 2 times an hour's drive I have to make every day.
My relationship with the cold has changed radically in 7 weeks, during which I haven't caught a single cold. I'm looking forward to the cold of winter, even if the first few minutes are always a bit tricky.
I'm dreaming of taking ice baths, even if it's a bit of a shock compared to what I'm doing now.

Get out, try not to put a towel to dry you up, let the body come back to normal temperature and it’s magical what it does.

The first few times are really rough but I have found (after starting and stopping multiple times) that after only 2 or 3 sessions, the "suck" factor goes down by half. Instead of intense pain for 2-3 minutes, it's 30 seconds of pain, followed by tolerable discomfort. Don't give up if it really sucks the first time or two. Stick with it just a few days and it gets a lot easier.

How’s it going so far? I’m a week into cold plunge. I’m a personal trainer, so I’m always sore one place or another. I’ve been doing PT for a long time for a hip issue I got from kickboxing. It’s fully healed but it has still been aching. Essentially a hip that works how it should, but just has a constant dull ache. I’ve noticed already that the 3 ice baths I’ve had this week are helping. On the days that I do them the ache is gone, and overall this week it’s been much less intense than before. I think at this rate it’ll feel healthy again in just another week or two.
Did you stick to it? Have you noticed improvements in these 2 months since your comment? Sorry for the novel, I’m just really curious!

I just did my first cold shower today, everything locked up, I felt like I was gonna pass out, but I breathed through it, until the tension melted away, until the water felt WARM, I felt tingly, I used WIM HOF's method of breathing to activate my vascular system, I felt so good I walked back home in the rain, with just my shorts and tshirt. I felt warm, couldnt feel the cold.my hands were WARM, in the cold rain! I now still feel warm, tingly, and very, very calm. I think Ill do this everyday til I die too now :-D

I’m glad they work so well for some. I suspect the
Placebo effect , which still works , because three weeks of it did absolutely dik all for me. Did 16 plunges
. Zero weight loss. Felt good after a few but eventually saw it as putting myself through discomfort for nothing and I no longer felt anything special after. I don’t say this to discourage but rather if this miracle life changing thing frustratingly does nothing for you please know you’re not alone.

I will say that I feel the same. I contribute to plunge because of the scientifically pushover health benefits. So even if I don't 'feel' a difference, I know it's still working good things internally ❤

Makes a huge difference but you have to stay consistent; like twice a week and then not take off a few days. Conistency is key avoiding salt and alcohol even better.

As someone with chronic pain from a 2 year old hip injury (severe TFL an oblique strain), and as someone with ADHD and a job that requires a lot of focus and energy(personal trainer), they’re helping.
The dull ache in my hip I’ve been dealing with improved after the first plunge. Now I’m a week in and I’m noticing that even on the days I don’t plunge, the ache isn’t nearly as bad. Joints that used to be stiff feel like they’ve been cleaned up and move more freely. My speculation as to why this is, is the increased blood flow after getting out. My injured muscles are fine now, they work great. However the joints they work around have still been inflamed, and I think cold plunge is helping to both “squeeze” the inflammation out, and then wash it away with the rebound blood flow.
Also the mental clarity and focus have helped my ADHD and energy. I had 3 clients tell me I seemed peppy & on point this week. I’m gonna keep it up and see where it goes!

I have two friends that do them very morning. They are bold bald. I think there is a correlation between the cold water and hair loss. I am not a doctor, nor a hairdresser except but it is some to worry about if you have hair loss

I love the cold plunge…only the first 30 seconds is hard, my problem is I stay in too long and it is not comfortable to warm up. I do usually wear neoprene socks without them the first 3 months hurts and I don’t put my hand in sometimes I’ll put hands in for a minute and also take socks off

as a professional athlete me and others do them for the anti inflammatory benefits, also cryo therapy for a few minutes at a time. just curious, do you do one minute on/off or stay in for 5 minutes what is your time range? good for you giving up those other "vices", this may be replacing them? but its a good thing I feel! listen they do sauna then jump into nearby ice pools in nordic countries for centuries so there's something that. nice video.

You are gonna feel like you are having LITERALLY a heart attack. For around 30 seconds. Focus on your breathing. And direct your thoughts to assurance that in 1.5 minutes everything is gonna get better. This is coming from someone that showers with scorching hot water

In my experience with cold plunging in 37°, the only real unpleasantness are my hands and feet aching. But you endure it for 3 to 5 minutes and it's done. You feel amazing for three to five hours.
There's no rule you have to plunge in near freezing water for the first time.
Submerge in cold water from tap, fill your bath tub to a nice novice 60 degrees, that's how I started.
You'll still reap benefits from that as well - do it daily while saving up for a Galvinized steel water trough you can fit in and a water chiller, I recommend Nuvio.

It’s not a game of Russian roulette I hope my comment can give you a different perspective. Reflect on your relationship BJJ- from my observation your overall theme is “mentality and getting through hard times”. This is a very small part of jiujitsiu. Longevity is something we have control over.
    Ask yourself:
    1) how hard are you rolling weekly? Are you consistently rolling at over 90% every session.
    2) how diligent are you are with strength and conditioning ? Are you focusing on Prehad and re hab your existing injuries and fixing dysfunctional biomechanics?
    3) What efforts have you put in place for recovery?
    4) How much effort are you putting in your diet?
I hope these questions can help extend your journey with BJJ. Best of luck!
