I love these lists because I’ve never heard of of any of these artists before. I’ve got some great new listening on tap for 2024! Of those artists listed, the Sufjan Stevens album Javelin really stands out at the top of the list for me.
I don't normally listen to Pop music. But hearing your excerpts makes me wonder what the definition of Pop is in today's music world. I will listen to these albums. Thank you for your insight into new music.
10. Aton Five-Aton Five 9. Crown Lands - Fearless 8. Organic Pulse Ensemble - A Thousand Hands 7. Spidergawd - VII 6. Seven Impale - Summit 5. Harp - Albion 4. Interesting to hear Oneohtrix has been using AI in his compositions. One of my favorites this year has been Headache's The head hurts but the heart knows the truth, where Vegyn opted to use an AI voice to recite spoken word over his excellent production. I think AI can be a great tool when it comes to music production. It will be interesting to see how it gets implemented in different ways moving forward.
Again with Marsha P Johnson being a figurehead of Stonewall...no. She was not. Being in association with the New Yorker, I would assume some research would be in order and done for this video. Nice list though ( I would not include Sufjan, I think he peeked a decade ago, but that's just me).
I listened to all of these. Each experience is worse than the previous one. The choices reeked of east side elitist noise that no one truly enjoys but rather force feeds themselves said mess in order to portray a certain image and fit into a particular group while remaining empty in purpose.
I feel ya. I'm a jazz nerd and have lost touch with what is considered popular music these days. But I'll check in every now and then. For instance, I'll subject myself to what some of the late-night shows have as musical guests and I'll watch stuff like this to see if perhaps I'm missing something. Turns out, I'm not missin' a thing.

Amanda rules! Phenomenal writer, one of my favorites.
If you start listening to NPR, in particular thei All Songs Considered, Tiny Desk Concerts etc., you will find all sorts of wonderful gems!❤🎧
Your thoughts on these three brilliant works are eloquent and most welcome. ❤
Loved all of them--wonderful picks!

Amanda looks like the lovechild of Joanna Newsom and Laura Dern.
Hey, it's the author of Do Not Sell At Any Price. Loved that book! :)
'Javelin's a lovely pick. Gotta check the other two since she does sound like she does appreciate music....
Bless you, Amanda
These are my top two as well but would likely have Yeule’s Softscars at 3.
I'm only familiar with Sufjan Stevens. 😮
Amanda is the best music critic with great taste. I always follow her lead.
So glad I came across this--great taste and so articulate!

Great picks, my personal top pick would be Kofu lll by Meitei.
Scott McMicken and the never expanding!
“Rattled Humming Heart “ by The Midnight Callers? It was worth a listen. Cheers 🍻 Matt
Javelin es precioso.🏵️🥹
You would think that The New Yorker would use a better font for the title card!
❤❤❤
Anohi!
Avenged Sevenfold babyyyyy let’s go New Yorker hipsters 😈😈😈😈
utopia album of the decade
Bffr
No boygenius - ‘The Record’?
It’s painfully mid, as are these picks
@@J.S.3259 interesting opinion, what are your top 3?

They all sound very boring records
We are in trouble in 2023. This music is mopey, forgettable and sucks. I don't care what gender it is.
Bro wants music to have no emotion 💀

You could just say you didn’t like them. Christ, people like you are annoying
@@J.S.3259 You could have simply disliked my message.
Who are these people?
Sufjan has been releasing popular albums well over 20 years now.
You're such a boring person
Were you aware you were on the internet when you typed that question?
There actually really well known artists
I feel ya.

best white and made in the us music. you need to point that out.
Lol no

You lost me at "slippery melodically" For me melody is everything.
Sometimes having the melody be elusive, unpredictable or just out of reach can be very rewarding. Avant-garde jazz can be that way.
nahhhhhh this is missing
Polymelia - Venus & Mars
The Immortal Samsara Travelers - Hanging gardens in glacial apocha
