Interesting list. A lot of artists I wasn't aware of. Here's a list of releases that moved me this year: 1) Xiu Xiu: Ignore Grief 2) Mandy, Indiana: I've Seen A Way 3) PJ Harvey: I Inside The Old Year Dying 4) Jaimie Branch: Fly Or Die Fly Or Die Fly Or Die 5) ANOHNI: My Back Was A Bridge For You To Cross 6) Armand Hammer: We Buy Diabetic Test Strips 7) Sprain: The Lamb As Effigy 8) Snooper: Super Snooper 9) Matana Roberts: Coin Coin Chapter Five 10) Feeble Little Horse: Girl With Fish
My AOTYs 2023: 10) PJ Harvey- I Inside the Old Year Dying 9) BC Camplight- Last Rotation of Earth 8) Water From Your Eyes- Everyone’s Crushed 7) Oneohtrix Point Never- Again 6) Sofia Kourtesis- Madres 5) Yo La Tengo- This Stupid World 4) Wednesday- Rat Saw God 3) Roisin Murphy- Hit Parade 2) Mandy, Indiana- I’ve seen a way 1) Lana Del Rey- DYKTTATUOB?
I’m glad that you put Parannoul in your Top 15. After the Magic is an otherworldly record full of details with an outstanding production. I got sucked into a world nearby the other end of the milky way, where everything is full of brightness and completeness. It‘s a jaw-dropping record
sufjan and caroline making top 5 makes sense to me. would absolutely agree. i think that sampha record was also up there for me. maybe the mitski release as well. feel like a lot of the albums i had on repeat werent actually from 2023. like the momma record that came out the year before.
Jessie Ware's album was the only one in your Top 10 I wasn't quite on board but after giving it another listen it really grew on me. I was recently on 70s disco kick and was floored by the songs of artists like Bee Gees, Donna Summer, Boney M, Blondie and the likes. Still not sure that Jessie quite captures the magic(is it possible 50 years later?) but agree she's doing something special.

Agree that Javelin deserves the no. 1 spot, that album is incredible. Lana Del Ray, Sparklehorse - Bird Machine and Wilco - Cousin are my runner ups in no particular order.
I‘m grateful to live in the same timeline as Sufjan Stevens! He manifests himself as one of the greatest Lyricists I‘ve ever heard. Javelin is a magnificent record, but I think Carrie & Lowell is his magnum opus.
Once u announced #4 I knew who will be in Top 3! Lana Del Ray's the most glaring snub I see but overall she can't complain of not getting more than enough acclaim & adoration, in fact I expect her to sweep the Grammys(actually, I have no idea if she will...😀)
My favorite album this year was actually from a Norway prog black metal band called Dodheimsgard, my favorite neofolk artist "Blood and Sun" released awesome EP too, in pop music I'll give it to Lana Del Ray

I’m surprised Lauren Auder’s album didn’t get any love this year.
