In this game, we see Piglet's perspective after he went by himself into the forest, depressed after realizing that he's too small and fearful to be of help to his friends. Throughout the story, we can interact with the rest of the characters by traveling into their dreams and helping them out with their problems while they're still asleep. But when we come back to reality, Piglet is still there, alone, inside a secluded area from the forest while he watches his friends from afar. What if what actually happened was that, drowned by depression and low self-esteem, Piglet went into that forest to "end himself", and it's his spirit who helps his friends inside their dreams? What if that area of the forest is some kind of purgatory or underworld, where Piglet can only watch his friends now that he's gone?
Absolutely surreal. For the past 4 years after my wife and I revisited this game and heard this on level 1, I was like "Dang, this track is completely out of place here, it sounds straight out of Silent Hill!" Looks like I'm not the only one that had that thought circulating for years in their head, absolutely incredible how the new Silent Hill 2 Remake ripped this "Straight out of Piglet's Big Game." We truly live in the wildest timeline this year.
I know, that's why I put quotes around "ripped from Piglet's big game." Similar story with the Muslim chants from the Fire Temple music in Ocarina of Time. This game and other games of the 90's and 2000's used this same sample from a sound pack and some were changed later from complaints, about it being used outside of religious reasons. Also Bloodborne uses a lot of sounds from a sound pack that I hear on dumb TV shows all the time, which makes me chuckle knowing the contex, but I know they didn't steal the sounds from Bloodborne. Just funny as this was obviously an old pack, so the thought either was circulating in someone's head for a while, or this same sample was used in a later sound pack. One or the other. Thanks for pointing this out though so others don't fall into the same misconception that this was ripped off.
People gotta remember that even kids games back then were made with respect for the player and most times had amazing work put into them instead of just being a cash grab with a new popular cartoon brand or series put on the cover. This could be anywhere from the story, the level design, or the music, I remember going crazy from hearing the level select in Stich:Experiment 626 on the PS2
There are some studios that seriously succeed making games that'd otherwise be "shovelware". A lot of people also know about King Kong for the PS2 nowadays, but the Hotel Transylvania 3 game released back in 2018 also carried this same energy, a game that normally everyone would write off as a game a confused grandma or small child would buy ended up being a very cool Pikmin spiritual successor
