An incredible and unexpected ending to 2023! Happy new year!
As much as I think using the computer's voice was a good call on the final build, I really love hearing Max Justice's voice in the main menu! Feels like he's an old friends ready to go on an adventure with us!
Yeah I do think it's a pretty interesting idea and I wouldn't have minded that in the final game! Side note: considering this is a July prototype and the first finished version of the game came out in mid October, it's made me realize how late in the process the voice acting for this game took place. It definitely seems like it must've been a bit of a crunch in those last few months.
I hope hot wheels Stunt Track Challenge gets this treatment in the future! Someone also recorded pre-release build footage of that game as well!
I knew Sweet 16 II was going to be an inclusion at one point since a 3D model artist for the game shared what it looked like with Purple Passion and a few other completed cars, and I knew of Fandango because iirc it was seen on a billboard poster along with a few other cars, (One of which is I think unidentifiable) but I had absolutely no idea that Jester was ever considered for any version of Velocity X since it's seen absolutely nowhere else prior to this.
Another crazy part is that this is likely far from the only prototype as well. I already mentioned Purple Passion and other billboard cars, and there could be some that still ended up in the GBA game as well, but we know there’s also Slingshot out there somewhere, and if Jester of all cars is found in one of these builds then only God knows what other cars were modeled and/or considered. I suppose in retrospect it makes sense that Jester was considered since it also appeared in future games like World Race and Stunt Track Challenge, but my question is how a detail like that went completely unnoticed for so long when the whole point of that game was to sell toy cars?
Whatever the reason, I'm glad we got at least *one* significant prototype build preserved, and I'm glad someone was mad enough to document everything even with no prior knowledge to this game and in just 2 days. I imagine World Race/Acceleracers and Hot Wheels fans in general would've been up to do that already considering how insane we can get, (Yes I'm one of them) so that just makes this even more impressive if true, and considering all the work that went into this I believe it.
One can only hope that more builds of old Hot Wheels games will keep surfacing in the future, even if it won't be all of them. It's amazing that something so "forgotten" by most people now still technically has a niche but dedicated fanbase. It's like Luke Skywalker once said: "No one's ever really gone…"

This is amazing! I wish the final version didn't omit some of these cars (Jester and Sweet 16 II specifically). Still the best Hot Wheels game though. Can't believe it turns 22 this year 😳

the biggest thing for me was that the burnout glacier inaccessible areas are intact with collision in joyride mode. i made a video showing off the area if anyone's interested; for me, that walled off portion of the city that clearly had effort put into it was a childhood mystery finally solved (in a better way than freecam did for me a few years ago)

I do not know if people will be able to put the cars into the final version. It might be a possibility.
You can play it by downloading it here: archive.org/details/velocity-x-earlycode. On the right there is an area with "DOWNLOAD OPTIONS". You will need to click "9 Original" at the bottom there.
Then, you will need a PS2 emulator to play the downloaded game. I recommend "PCSX2". This tutorial may help: fantasyanime.com/emuhelp/pcsx2
Then, you can just load up the downloaded game within your PCSX2 emulator, and you will be playing it.
@@overdrive_srs Can the prototype version of Burnout Glacier be modded into the final version as well?... There's a UA-camr named Keybadeblox who does mods, he would be thrilled to see this.
