For the price, I can't complain. Decent enough resolution to identify license plates immediately in front of it, pans fast enough to track moving vehicles, pretty decent dynamic range. My one complaint it that while it pans while tracking, it doesn't seem to tilt as well. So when it places a bounding box around a detected motion subject, it often loses it because it doesn't tilt to reposition that box in the center of the frame.

I recently purchased the Wyze Pan Cam V3, It performs great only one kickback and I do not understand why they would want to remove the option from its normal place. When reviewing an event they removed the playback option and now you have to take extra steps to review playback event, to me It is not a very good option. Greetings and Happy New Year from Torrance! At first I was really excited about this product, but the image quality and motion blur was hard to get over. But, I do see this as being a visual deterrent for your house. I noticed that people don't notice cameras unless they are looking or paying attention. Because this is moving and making a slight noise, potential burglars might get nervous knowing something is tracking their movement. We all get a little nervous if we think we are being followed. This would make a great deterrent. Thanks again for all of your hard work!

The motion blur is in all of the Wyze cameras, and mostly due to the low frame rate. But I doubt the slight sound would deter anyone and if a criminal saw it then they would take or destroy the camera. No criminal on the planet would get nervous of a camera if their identity is shielded when wearing a mask.

@@Resist4 I have to agree with you. I know in the San Francisco area, car break ins are so common, there is no fear of getting caught or identified. Its all being done in broad daylight. I tell people to try to position their cameras to try to catch license plates. It won't get their stuff back, but maybe the police could put an APB out for the car. Its reached a point that criminals aren't even worried anymore.

@@Resist4 While I do agree with most of what you said, we did get a meth head off the street (albeit temporarily) with one of these cams. I knew he was stealing from the outdoor storage of my house, and loitering inside the car port, but the police wouldn't/couldn't do anything unless I proved it.
Put out one of my old Wyze cams on a whim, and a few days later I got a nice clear video sent to my phone of the guy walking into my carport, noticing the camera blink at him, staring at it for a few seconds, then picking it up and stealing it. It was a lovely, full view of his face as he walked over and picked it up. Dude thought that if he stole it, no one would be the wiser. 😂 I never got my camera back, but the cops picked him up for theft of the cam (I live in Florida, so they still do that here), and he ended up having a good bit of meth on his person at the time, so that helped bump up his charges.

However, one thing I've noticed about Wyze is that they are using the razor blade marketing model...make all the profit on the consumables (in this case Cam Plus). I don't want my cam to be tethered to my wallet so it would be helpful to see this same review for the camera's usefulness without the Cam Plus subscription. Keep up the good work.

the drawbacks you mention about no home position are valid as well as no magnetic mount. also, a pro version like their newer wyze cam v3 pro may have been a better choice for a new pan cam. sticking to hd seems like a step back when they look like they were moving forward with 2k cameras just several months ago.

Wyze is wisely first selling a bunch of 1080 V3 pan cams, and then V3 pro 2K cams, and finally they'll put out the 2K V3 Pan Cam Pros.
That last version Im guessing will come in around $80 - $90.

The Real Problem with Wyze for ME, is that I want a 40$ camera that has 2K and a Subscription Plan as an OPTION. BUT WYZE gives you a cheap camera in price but IF you decide to NOT buy the subscription, then they punish you by turning off camera features until your cheap camera only takes photos not videos. They force you to pay them $99/yr and Your Video of your house is not even Encrypted on their servers. Wyze can watch you in the privacy of your own home ! That is F up.

So, my homebuilt DIY security cams use a RPi board running MotioneyeOS for their operating systems, with a Pi tilt and pan module and the standard RPi camera module. I can access each one through any web browser on the local network, and from a remote client if I enable port forwarding on my router. Motioneye can be configured through a client web browser to record loop, record on motion sense, email stills or videos on motion sense, and I can display live cam on a web browser. Motion sense threshholds, idle time, etc are all completely cusomizable. I use Brave for a browser, of course. All I need for access from any device is the unit's IP address, a userID and a password, which can be saved of course for instant logon. I don't have night color capability and I don't have audio, though I could incorporate that on the side with only a very small amount of python coding. Honestly, I don't want to talk to people seeking to disturb me, and I don't give two shits whether or not their sock color matches their tshirt and accessories. My cams that are out in the sun have solar charging, and run completely wireless. I do not need a subscription or a special "app". How does that compare to this camera, which I must admit is very cheap.? Can you run those cams without resorting to using someone else's "app" on your computer or phone? Why is there a "subscription", apart from milking the customer for extra money? Tell me, because if the answers please me, I will probably buy a few. If not, then this is like all the rest of the security cams on aliexpress, fleabay, amazon, etc. Just ripoffs.
Oh wait... you can't even zoom? I'll stick to my Pi cams, for just a few dollars more.

Here's what concerns me: The right-angle USB connector. It's use so that the base can sit on a flat surface or when it's mounted to the wall mount plate. But that limits you to use ONLY the included USB cable - which is useless if you need a longer cable. If you mount it in the wall plate, could you drill a hole through that plate to allow a straight plug to connect it to power? I realize that it potentially exposes the power connector to the elements, but it seems like that could be fixed with a dab of silicone...
