If you have Maschine Mk2, Mirko Mk2, or Studio.. The surface control source code is broken. The python files need to be recompiled. If you youtube "Ableton Live 9.6 and Maschine Script Fix" there is a video with the fixed files. Then you will be able to see the surface control.
I agree and I've heard great things are planned for Maschine's new updates, but Ableton is a very powerful DAW and as far as Maschine's software, it's not the most capable. The hardware and sample workflow is something I'd miss, but I'm going with Ableton on this too. Who knows? Maybe they will update the usage of plug ins and sample editing in the future?
I don't plan on getting rid of Maschine, cause I do believe that NI will keep improving it over time, and the sounds are great. Also, it will probably still be a great host for the other NI vsts (I own Komplete 7) within Live, the way that Push is for the native Ableton instruments. What I'd really like is one program I can commit to and become real proficient in, instead of switching back and forth, instead of swiching back and forth. At the moment, my money's on Live.
Hello, hope you don't mind me asking (and wont mind answering..) Do you know if both the Maschine + Push/APC40 hardware controllers can be used simultaneously? (or even if it does, would that just be overkill?) thank you, I've found all your tutorials very helpful :)
What are the features that made you switch? I'm personally on the verge of going back to live and getting the push to produce and perform all in one program.
Well, obviously I haven't played with Push yet, so the verdict is still out. Basically, I really love the fast workflow of Maschine, but I find that using Maschine and Live together is a real pain at the moment. Especially for working with pre-existing audio (loops, longer samples that aren't necessarily chopped in a hip-hop style.) Some of the new features in the Live 9 Beta have made it much quicker and more intuitive for me, and I'm hoping that Push will bring that direct, physical control.
what if i don't see a maschine mk2 option in my surface control tab in Live? i see maschine mk2 in the input and output but not in the control surface tab
@@zineke The surface control source code for the maschine mk2, mikro mk2, and studio is broken. The python files need to be recompiled. Look up "Ableton Live 9.6 and Maschine Script Fix" on youtube there is a link to the fix
Very good tuto but I don't have 8 pages like you said (5'40)... also no rectangle red grid you show in the begining.. It's seems that the template of the new control editor I've just download doesn't work... I've checked, my control editor it's now 1.5.3, my Maschine is 1.8.2 and Ableton live 8.2.8 ... so I don't get what's happened? Could you please help me? Thank you
Great video, template works fine with me but the screens do not reflect what you show in video, especially on page 5 (pads and device) to select the octave, scale and base note. It works and I have it shown in Live at the bottom of the screen (yellow bar message). Do you know why? Thanks, i just subscribed to your channel.
can you get the red box selection on the older maschine? or is it just on the new maschine with ableton? use machine with ableton now but dont have tat box
Hey there pretty useful. but for some reason I can access all the options, I already follow all the steps you discribed on the video but like I said I can not play the scenes Can hel me to set it up?

HELP! For me the MIDI pads work in MIDI mode but the pads has no lights… only the screen are on and the one pad I’m pressing. Does any one know how to make the pads Color full ? MASCHINE mk2 Ableton 11 And I don’t have the maschine software installed
i have the mk1 Controller and while in clip mode, when i press E F G and B to move around the session view in ableton, it only goes up and down skipping only one and only skips for when moving to the side. pressing A doesnt do anything, any tips?
I installed the files correctly and maschine is showing template 2 ableton live 9 but the scene and others in that row aren't working. A is green, B is blue and C is red. pads arent colored but will play when loading midi device. Anyone have any ideas? He says in the video that clip mode comes up, but I'm not getting that
Worth pointing out that this doesn't seem to work in Live 9 Beta. For better or worse, I've already adapted to the new features in Live, and can't bring myself back just to make better use of Maschine.
Hi there , Can someone please help me . I'm stumped .Ive got abletonLive and Maschine Studio (Hardware)set up. Everything works ok . Problem..I cant change my pad scenes on my MS next 16 scenes . i can navigate/move the Orange square down to scene 17 on my ABLIVE but the pads on MS stay on the first 16 scenes .
quick question...I have the 1.5.4 controller editor update, yet the lights on my maschine do not correlate with yours...for example, the arrow keys on mine are not blue, group a button is not orange, group c has no light...assigned clips do not light up on the pads...however, everything in ableton is responsive...help please!
When I click the navigate button it doesn't stay selected and therefore I can't access anything from the navigate panel. anyone know a fix for this? I really wanna be able to control my fx racks in Ableton with my Maschine only
nothing from the last few minutes of the video worked for my controller. also I couldn't change the key or scale. I am running Ableton 10 though so idk if that's the issue here
You don't, not without modifying it youself. I'm sure that NI will get around to releasing a newly updated, mediocre Live template mapping within a year of Live 9's release. Check out the NI forums on this topic. There are much better mappings out there, ones that actually give you controls of drum racks, etc. Off the top of my head, one is called something like "Advanced Maschine," "Ableschine,". Megatroid has an interesting one, too.
I've done all these steps but for some reason, the pad modes don't change anything. When i click 'pattern', my clips don't show up on the pads and aren't able to be triggered from maschine mk2. When i click scene also nothing changes. I can also only move by 1, and can't change it to move by groups. Any tips? Cherrsss
emerefers with your full sized maschines!!! it is not that easy on a mk 1 mikro!!! great tut tho. helped me figure out what i was doing wrong, not hitting the pad mode button. at least now i can finger drum with pads instead of keys, which is really all i wanted.
Wait so does anyone know, can I buy a used Maschine without the software and just use it as a Midi controller? Does anyone do this? I want to use 2 maschines. One with software and one without, just to activate tracks.
Someone out there--- please finish/tweak the script for Maschine MK3, so it has the same Ableton functionality as seen in this video. The Maschine Studio also has a dope script that works wonderfully with the latest version of Ableton. Someone out there PLEASE code that Python and Controller Editor stuff to make thousands of us out there very, very happy. Please.
Is anyone having the same problem as I am with the Live template and parameter changes only moving in one direction (ie: increase / up)? The template is virtually unusable like this. I've raised with Native and they say its a known issue but 2 updates for the Controller Editor have been released and no dice on fixing this issue. I've waited so long I've purchased a Push and I'm this close to selling the Maschine
davros303 The only parameters on the template I've had this problem with are the note repeat section and the extra note/octave/scale functions. The note/octave/scale encoders that only go up aren't problematic though since all of these can be changed easily via the main rotary dial (rotate for octave, push and rotate for scale, hold ENTER and rotate for note). Not having the encoders work on the note repeat section really sucks though because all of your note repeat options get permanently stuck at 1/64 or whatever. Fortunately I've found a workaround for this by using the controller editor to assign the note repeat CC#s to TWO BUTTONS rather than to the one encoder. Would be way easier with just an encoder but at least I can raise AND lower the note repeat values now
Thanks for the advice Daltronius, unfortunately I lost my patience and sold the Maschine. I found the Ableton template often glitchy in other ways and I really didn't want more than one large controller for my home studio, so I've now purchased a Push.
For sure, I mean honestly Maschine's main purpose is to run the dedicated Maschine software anyways, so any Ableton application is pretty much secondary/half-ass (and quite clunky honestly), you're definitely a lot better off with a Push for controlling Ableton :) Wishing I would have got one now that I'm actually realizing how much of a pain it is to use Maschine to control Ableton! Plus having only 16 pads for melodies kinda blows :/ Which I guess is why I'm using my launchpad mini (with Launchpad95) ON TOP of my Maschine now, pretending that I have a Push lol

So here it is, *Do i have to register the controller's serial with NI if i JUST want to use the controller drivers, editor, templates and control Live with it?* I'm buying used and i have no way of being sure it will have been deregistered with NI. I don't want maschine software, don't care about it. I simply want to be able to download and use the controller editor, use and edit it's templates, and control ableton with the controller. Some have said you need to for the controller's drivers to work. I just installed them and it seems fine but I have no idea what will happen when I actually get the controller and finally plug it in. Also what about the MK2? I'll eventually want to upgrade to it. please help.
