    Buy once, cry once :D Story of my Jeep build. I went with a Metalcloak 2.5" dual rate lift with 35's. Love it. I am getting it geared to 4.88 next week (2015 JKU Sport). Having a mechanic you trust is very important too.

    All very well said and Accurate while cutting through the MAZE of products out there vying for everyone’s attention…!! ✅
    Our third Jeep Wrangler now is a first year TJ (in fact was made two months before that First year started) 1997, I believe they came stock with only 26” tires on them which look Totally Ridicules in my opinion, so ours has 33x12x15’s on it with 3.5” lift which fits right in the NORM OF WHAT WE THINK A TJ WranglerShould look like 😍 and BTW, We think the TJ’s are thee Very Best Looking Jeep Wranglers EVER MADE….!!!! 😎👍👌👏🥳

    I just dropped $6200 on a lift, tires, and wheels for my ‘22 JT EcoDiesel! 😫 Shipping it all to Alaska was a big piece of the cost. I went with an AEV Dualsport RT 2.5 inch lift. Running AEV Salta XR wheels with a Goodyear DuraTrac RT tire wrapped around them. Size 285/75/17 which is just a hair over 34 inches.
    This truck is my daily driver and occasionally will take some light trails, dirt roads in the summer but most of the all the roads and trails are covered with snow. I’ll be installing it with my son so hopefully it all works out and the JT rides and looks so much better than stock.

    Some very good points made here and they help make a lot more sense of things out there. I am hoping the lift will help fix the bottoming out I am currently getting on my JTD.

    • @JeepingForBeginners
      @JeepingForBeginners  2 роки тому

      If you are bottoming out, then really consider the shocks.... a twin tube, or variable valving shock can help with that more then just spring replacement. 🤔

      @@JeepingForBeginners Oh I understand that for the most part. But this is the stock setup on my JT Sport Diesel, I upgraded to Rubi take off 33s. I have heard from sources that this was an issue from the factory. It is bad enough that if I hit a speed bump wrong I will hit the bump stop. I have had it happen on the 95 downtown catching the aqueduct bumps just right.

    • @JeepingForBeginners
      @JeepingForBeginners  2 роки тому

      Well, I am sure it's not the tires. Who knows, maybe the factory shocks are blown... or defective. It happens. But I would be willing to bet, upgraded shocks would certainly calm that down

    Can you explain the differences between a leveling kit and a lift. Pros or cons between them

    • @JeepingForBeginners
      @JeepingForBeginners  2 роки тому +1

      A leveling kit is just a small front end lift designed to remove the natural rake of the vehicle. 99% of the time, consists of just spacers. But a lift usually adds height to both front and rear of the vehicle. A leveling kit can range from 3/4 of an inch to 1.25 inches, a lift kit goes larger. Leveling is great for stance, or just leveling the vehicle, but to clear larger tires usually need a lift. Hope that helps

    Like you mentioned that on a JLU I can fit 35s without the need of a lift. But can you do a segment on re-gearing both differentials depending on tire size, please

    but can I build an off roader with out the lift? Running JK . As a hunter, fisherman, and camper I use the jeep quite often. We're off road but not extreme. I'd rather spent two hours tracking game or getting the extra cast in than getting unstuck,,, and that time could be far better spend trying to light my camp fire than digging out trust me I need all the extreme time to build a fire . Nothing against a suspension up grade specially if it helps with my towing. But is this practical?

    1st time buying suspension i don’t know what to get
    Tire size:35 lift:2 1/2
    What shocks and suspension should I get for off-roading do you recommend for this?

    • @JeepingForBeginners
      @JeepingForBeginners  2 роки тому +2

      If you are going to use it more off road, I would be looking at dual rate springs, and at least twin tube shocks. Rubicon Express, Teraflex, and Skyjacker make great entry level kits that meet those needs. But if you want a more comfortable on road feel because it will see far more pavement then dirt, I would consider Rubicon Express, BDS suspensions, or maybe, just maybe, RCX... though I am not a real fan.... keep in mind though, the performance is what you are looking for... so is it a daily driver 99% of the time, or are you looking to "wheel" it more once you modify it?

    Hoping you have time to share your thoughts. I have a 79 CJ7 with the 258 4.2 inline 6 I'm restoring. Original wheels are 15 x 10.5 and tires were 31 x 11.5. With only leaf springs and shocks. I'm not the guy that sets out to destroy it on the weekend and hit the major rock crawling.. more roads but some moderate offloading from time to time. I'm looking at a 2.5" lift with 16 in wheels and 33 x 11.5" tires. What kind of lift, suspension, shocks, and offset/backspacing would I need with a moderate budget if any? I'm also a little unsure on the wheel width. Thoughts?

    • @JeepingForBeginners
      @JeepingForBeginners  2 роки тому

      So if I remember correctly, the suspension you have is leaf spring front and rear... therefore lift is super simple and inexpensive as all you need are some shackles and new shocks... as for wheels, if you have a 10.5 wide now, why not use the same rims, just larger tires? A 33x12.50 tire will mount just fine... and you should not have clearance issues on that model for such a small jump in tire size. That sounds like a fun project, and we all love those old CJs... hope that helps. 😀

    • @celticcraps
      @celticcraps 2 роки тому

      @@JeepingForBeginners you're correct 4 shocks and leaf springs. I can't use the same wheels. One of the matching white 15" wagon wheels is missing. Figured going to a 16 x 33 would look better and add more stability with a small 2.5 lift. Just curious about the offset/backspacing if that is something I'd need to pay attention to and whether or not there's a good solution for the suspension. Knowni need new leafs but wondered about the right shocks and possible coil overs if I can adapt those for a better ride?

    • @JeepingForBeginners
      @JeepingForBeginners  2 роки тому

      Coilovers will get very expensive fast, because now you are talking welding in mounts for control arms, Trac bars and several components you don't already have... if you stay with leaf springs though, you have an advantage because there are far less obstacles in the way as far as tire clearance issues. I would think a 4.5" backspacing is still adequate to clear 33 inch tires. As for offset, kind of personal preference. The more negative you go, the further the tire will stick out past the body.... on the old CJs, I would say anywhere from a zero to a negative 6mm offset would look and behave just fine.... when shopping for them, look at what's available, and then maybe do a Google search for those specific ones on your application and see what pops up... always a great place to start. 😉

    • @JeepingForBeginners
      @JeepingForBeginners  2 роки тому

      As for shocks, Bilestiens would be a great brand to consider with leaf springs, great on road ride, decent offroad, and simple. My next choice would be Rancho, but those would be more geared for the offroad as they would be a little stiffer on road.

      @@JeepingForBeginners thank you for being so informative and taking the time to respond. Is there a way to know how far out the tire would sit before selecting a wheel like that? In my case, with a 2.5" lift, would I need to worry about motor mount lifts I've seen comments in or only if I lift the body also? I wouldn't need to lift the body if I'm only running 33" on 16s would I?
