Jeeping For Beginners
United States
Приєднався 29 чер 2021
Jeeping for Beginners is exactly how it sounds. This channel is created for those who are brand new to the Jeep world, both in vehicle ownership, as well as in vehicle usage. This is not a channel for expert advice, just helpful advice on how to enjoy your adventures more.
Originally, I created this channel due to seeing way to many negative comments in online social media, downgrading people who are actually asking questions to learn something. So you learned that 20 years ago? Good for you, not everyone is on your level dude! Anyways, I have felt bad that people are not getting clear answers to their questions, and are seemingly afraid to even ask them now on social media platforms like Facebook, UA-cam and Reddit. So therefore, this is how I have decided to help.
Now, I am by no means an expert, or claim to be, but I have been a Jeep owner for many MANY years, and feel like some of the basics would make for great educational videos, as well as fun to make. So enjoy!

Ep6: "Last, But not Least". Back 2 the Basics, a Jeeping 4 Beginners Series
This video series is based on the beginner, the newbie who is wanting to go out on an adventure for the very first time, but is worried about not knowing the basics! Back 2 the Basics is a great education series where each episode is kept about 20 minutes long and geared towards covering the basic information needed before heading out on to the trails for the very first time, such as gear needed, what obstacles to expect and how to conquer them, as well as how to experience off-roading safely.
This is NOT for the veteran off-roader or those who claim to know everything already. So derogatory, hurtful or seemingly stupid comments WILL BE DELETED. This is a safe place for first timers to learn, and as it should be.

Absolutely would love to see solo multi day trips
Same format? Like this series, or more like adventure videos? Just curious 🤔
@ similar to this format. With some adventurous parts. Highlighting things you should absolutely bring being solo. Such as tools, rescue equipment, the essentials, what you believe is absolutely necessary for a multi day trip out solo. I really enjoy this channel. Even though I don’t own a jeep. Just can’t afford one, my wife just spent 6 months in the hospital of that 6 months she spent 40 days in ICU. Then she spent another month and half in a step down unit. When she came home she only weighed 70 Lbs. Now she is up to 77 Lbs. All of this started because of a mesateric artery bypass surgery that she initially went in for. Things just went Horribly Wrong. Now I’m buried in a mountain of hospital bills and doctors bills, also all the bills from the test and specialty equipment and medicine needed. But that’s a whole different matter. I do really enjoy the videos it has really helped in taking my mind off things while all this was happening. Looks like for a long while it’s going to be me and my Old Nissan Frontier 4x4. The most important thing in all of this is that I still have my wife by my side. Came very close to losing her several times and I would wish that for anyone. Keep up the Great work. And best wishes to you and your family.
Wow, I am sorry to hear about the recent events and health issues. I am glad to hear she pulled through. Losing a loved one is beyond painful, I've been there, but seeing then recover almost restores faith in our lives! Give me some time as I have several other projects currently pressing, but yes, that's how I see making a solo overlanding video.... series. Thank you for your support and glad I can be of service to keep your mind distracted from time to time. Keep up the good fight, hug your wife every night, and who knows, perhaps we shall meet on the trails!
Hey, thanks for the review! The promo code J4B says it has "reached its usage limit" on the open road website. Any way to get that renewed / updated?
I just received an email back. Said it should be working just fine now, so please try again. She said if you are still having issues, reach out to them in the chat box and they will assist you further. 😉
I mostly just ride on the beach 🏖️ But I have been on a few muddy trails camping.⛺️
Hey Josh. Great series. Thanks.. Do you go on any jeep runs with local clubs? Getting ready for my first one.
I used to. I have my reasons why I don't anymore. Part of why I make these videos. And why I made the website, www.jeeping4beginners.com. Reach out to me privately if you wanna talk more about this question. 😉
I’d like to stop by your shop in January 2025. How do I get there?
Please read the first pinned comment on this video. It will answer your question.
New discovery humans discovered gloves 😂 Thanks for the video
Funny thing though, before gloves were discovered, humans found soap and water to be very effective! 😉 🤣 🤣 Anyways. Glad you enjoyed it. 😉
I would really like more content for going solo Not only am I new to this but I am going around the world in my gladiator with alucap and would love to get more information on preparation and you input on solo overlanding... Thankyou for this series I really appreciate it
Around the world? That sounds exciting!
@ daunting but exciting…..I’m itching to get going but a lot of planning ahead
I bet! I would love details. Please, send me an email at Yasmarproductions@gmail.com... i not only wanna discuss your trip, but let's discuss what you would wanna see in another series. I look forward to hearing from you! 😀
So will the 17”x9” rim with the 4.5” backspacing and -12 mm offset give me the same stance if I get the 33” tire instead of the 35” ?
Theoretically, yes. The rim will. But 33s are available in different widths themselves... so keep in mind that too.... so the last detail to have the same "stance" as those i showed is the tire would need to be 12.5 inches wide. 😉
I would love another series from you. This one was extremely interesting and helpful ❤❤❤❤
Thank you!
I don’t have oversized tires and mine came on yesterday 😢
Though it happens more often with higher weight tires, does not mean that it cannot happen with a stock set up. I would still check the wheel Bearings. 😉
@ would you recommend to do it immediately? We’re traveling at the moment
As this could turn into a safety issue, yes, I would take a few minutes with a jack, and check the Bearings right quick. If nothing is at all loose, continue on and check again in a day or so if the lights remain, but if any are loose, it needs to be addressed immediately.
The drone footage was fun. Thanks for the tips.
It was fun. As the whole experience should be fun. Lol. Glad you enjoyed it! 😉
"I mean come on man" 🤣🤣🤣
Great stuff once again, love the advice you give. I mowed the rural road ditches for 9 years in 2WD and 4WD tractors, off camber was my game. Too bad Jeeps don't come with a split brake pedal.
Thank you for the compliment. A split brake pedal? Hmmmm.... i wonder if it can be done? 🤔
@@JeepingForBeginners just for the rear wheels. It yanks the front end up hill, keep the sway bars locked up and you can crab walk it along slopes.
I can't afford to build it but I would test her out.
What are those coolant hose clamp called? The one that prevents coolant loss. Thank you.
Not sure the technical name, we call them crimps. You can get them at Harbor Frieght tools, just about any auto parts store, or even like Lowes or Home Depot. Hope that helps
@ it does. Thank you.
Thanks.
You're welcome.
Great and informative video! Now do one on how to keep the paint from bubbling 😂😂
I hear that is an issue with the newer models. Not sure if they changed paint suppliers or what. I do know FCA has been convering paint repairs under warranty, but.... I will have to do some research, talk to some friends I have that work for FCA and get back to on that one. Just to clarify, you are talking about the paint on the door hinges? Or?
@JeepingForBeginners yes the hinges and other places. 22 Gladiator, mine started on the side edges of the hood. I did an oil change a few weeks ago and noticed one of my exhaust hangers was rotting away. It looked like it was 10 years old. FCA needs to work on their corrosion resistance. My rear links and frame started to get surface rust within a year. My father in laws 15 f250 that he uses as a contracter doesn't even have surface rust on the frame after 9 years. This was my first Jeep product, and if it keeps up this way, it will be my last.
After so many videos. You are the most descriptive. Thank you so much. Subscribed.
Thank you! 😀
I'm not new, but still enjoy learning and hearing the basics again!
Really great series Josh. Good job.
Thank you!
Those like me who have an older jeep don't have a hill descent button. We have to gear our automatic jeeps down manually.
Thanks! Great info! In WV mountains. Riding ridges with off camber trails that have steep drop offs. Newbie. Scares the crap out of me.
How can you tell if they are “perfectly” parallel? I added a 2.5” lift and used OG track bar (not adjustable). It looks almost parallel depending upon the angle I look at it. Any method to tell if “perfectly” parallel?
Where they bolt up top and bottom should relatively the same plane. Then they should follow the same angle, making them parallel. If they look like the blades of scissors, then it's no bueno
Great instructional video! I purchased the lights already and think they are very cool. Q1-Did you use a Scotch lock to splice into your new red wire for your other headlight? Q-2. What gauge wire to use 14? Q-3 I have an automatic transmission so I probably should not use the #17 , correct? Thanks
Great questions! 1. Yes, I used a scotch lock to jump those wires. 2. I use 12g wire for just about everything LED related, but 14g works just fine 3. I've done a few others for customers since then, and yes, you can still use that circuit. Those lights do not draw very much power so we have not had any issues. I still live them too, perfect beam pattern. And adjusted right, do not blind other drivers.. even better. Thank you for the compliment. Hope those answer your questions! Enjoy!
Installed GPA13 in my wrangler 2018 JK. It works as said in video, and in my 18 JK. Also- had to drill out that small hole just a bit too! Easy install, after Amazon sent me the completely wrong model. This was a great video and very helpful info! Thank you!!😊
You're welcome
Watched this bad boy a few times, bout to install it with your help. Thanks brother!
You're welcome
@ success!! Now I just gotta get the firmware on a USB to update it! Haha
I'd say in the northern part of the US it needs to be replaced more often. Salt plays a huge toll! I just went down this rabbit hole. My rad hose clamps were rotten on my jeep 2017 JK. While I was in there I did upper/ lower rad hoses and calmps, lower heater core hoses and clamps and my serpintine belt.
Do they make one for Apple yet?
It has both. Apple car play, AND Android auto. Both wireless
Ordered the awning and sidewalls. Openroad sent two emails saying the order didn’t process and they had canceled it. Placed another order. I then got an email confirming my first order went through and that it had shipped. I sent four emails to their main customer service email address and one to another email address that PayPay gave me. I explained the situation clearly and concisely. Openroad have not replied to any of my emails and have taken two payments. Very suspect be careful purchasing from this company. I also asked them to call me via their website customer support portal, they haven’t. We are now nine days from the purchase and still no refund of the second payment.
3/16 toe out on my JK solved my shimmy. Everything on steering and trac bar brand new teraflex, including new PSC steering system but kept having a little shimmy over 60, finally the toe out resolved. Did on driveway with tape measure between front / back of rotors with wheels off.
Hey I am thinking about getting a lightbar for my Jeep 2024 WILLY JL model. Where did you buy your brackets and what do you suggest?
Also how do you believe I should wire it into my jeep?
If you do not have a built in AUX pod, there are a few options out there to control lights such as this... a.co/d/2SpWUb8 Or this.... a.co/d/5teO93M But that falls to personal preference. As for accessories like brackets and such, I love Amazon... can shop all brands, styles and ideas u til I find what works for me. So search away, I am sure you will find something that tickles your fancy on that. Hope that helps!
How can you have the same backspace but different offsets? Both measurements well be determined by where the lugs connect. To change the offset are you adding spacers?
Back spacing is set by the lug nut mounting surface. However, offset can be changed with rim size. A 17x9, a 17x8.5 and a 17x9.5 can all have the same backspacing. But the offset will change. Therefore why I said changing one does not always change the other.
So can I get a rim that has a backspace of 4.5” and with 18mm an offset? Is this the same rim as with a 6mm offset?
Yes. But the width will be 1/2" different
Tough trail for first-time newbies.
But a blast none the less. 😀
that is why I like youtube. To discover channels like this that share his love and knowledge about jeeps.
Thank you!
hmmm, I was inpressed by the "true step by step" but instead of letting us know the order and torque of the oil cooler, fade to black..... good none the less.
I was looking at a 2011-2013 jeep liberty jet any information I need to look out for or is it a good jeep plz help I need to know as much as I can before I buy one. Thanks
Known for gaskets leaks. Get underneath and check for fluid leaks at rear main and oil pan.... also known for window regulator failures, so be sure to check all power windows for correct operation. Otherwise... the normal stuff, like wear and tear, drivability, weird noises. Those kinda things. Good luck!
@JeepingForBeginners thank you for the tips!! I will be on the look out now.
Any issues ordering/shipping
No. Actually, they were extremely fast. I got mine in Las Vegas two days after order, and my brother got his in Maine, three days after order.... super fast and their customer service was fantastic
@@JeepingForBeginners thanks
Do you have to reset it to stock settings when getting your vehicle serviced at the dealer?
No. It's not that type of programmer. Once you set it up the way you like it, it's done. Unless you wanna change something
Awesome content
Thank you!

Lol.... 😆 🤣
12:17 Did you say offset and backspacing are not related? That is 100 percent false. If your wheel is 17x9 with 4.5 inches of backspacing IT WILL BE -12 OFFSET. If your wheel is 17x9 and you want 0 offset you HAVE TO HAVE 4.75 INCHES OF BACKSPACING. They are totally related and if you change 1 the other one HAS to change.
You are only partially correct. Here is where the misconception is. When you SHOP for a wheel, those numbers are NOT related. Here is why. Take the same rim from let's say, American Racing. They ask you to choose rim size. 17 They ask you to chose backspacing. 4.5" Then.... they ask you to chose the offset. Why? What really changes? Not the back spacing. The width. See the same rim can be offered as a 17" with 4.5 BS and three options for offset. Therefore three options for width, 8.5, 9, and 9.5 So yes, if you stay as a 17x9, and change the BS, the offset will naturally change, but just changing the offset alone, DOES NOT necessarily change the back spacing. I know i did not make that point super clear in the video.... but after you spend a few hours on these websites, you will see that those numbers do not always correlate. Though they CAN affect each other, the offset measurement is not a direct correlation to the backspacing measurement, and therefore should not be assumed. For the purpose of picking wheels for your Jeep, the BS is the most important, the offset will come naturally with rims size.
Idk how complicated wheels are each wheel has a certain backspace and offset. If you change the offset the backspacing changes the same amount. You can't change the offset without changing the backspacing, you can't change the backspacing without changin the offset. They are directly related to each other and they are linear
Not true. And hence my statement. You can have three different 17" wheels, all will the same backspacing and yet 3 different offsets. It's not the backspacing that changes, it's the rim width. If you look up a wheel from KMC for example, you can chose the BS, then "choose" the offset. If they were linear, or 100% directly related to each other, that selection would be impossible. But once you chose, then the rim width is determined. In the flip side, you can chose the BS and the width, then the offset would be determined. My point was that change one of those two numbers, does NOT always change the other. All three measurements are variables that affect each other. Now to blow your mind even more, change the rim to a bedlock. Now that same width, and same backspacing, now has an even MORE negative offset. The rims in that video were 17x9, with a 4.5 BS, and naturally a -12mm offset. My current wheels are 17x9, with a 4.5 BS, but because they are genuine beadlock, they are now a -32mm offset. Same width, same BS, two different offsets. So though I appreciate you stating your mind, the truth is simple, you absolutely CAN change the offset without DIRECTLY impacting the backspacing.
What a shit video 🤦🏽♂️
