  • There are several alternatives to using a magic circle when crocheting. One common alternative is the chain 4 method.
The chain 4 method is another alternative to the magic circle and is suitable for projects where you need a looser center. To use this method, chain 4 stitches and then crochet the specified number of stitches into the first chain. This method is simpler and quicker than the magic circle, making it ideal for beginners.

I will be using this because I struggle with the magic ring. Thank you for sharing.

I knew there was a different way to start, it had been so long since I crocheted, I couldn’t figure out why I kept holding my hand that way! 🤣

    WOW! This is 😁😁😁great.
You have just made my day, 😉 thank you. I have finally mastered the “magic circle” but this seems so much easier. You chained 😅3 for a double crochet, would you only do 1 for a single crochet? What about a half double crochet? would you chain 2 for it?
Please let me know. Thanks, Patty 🧑🏻‍🦳

You are welcome Patty,. Yes for Single Crochet you Chain 2 then single Crochet the number of stitches you want into the first stitch then pull the tail to tighten/close the ring. For half DC chain 3.
