It’s so nice to see a young man learning by his mistakes, its the best way as you’ll won’t forget, as an retired aircraft engineer now into my 70’s that also started like you did back in the 60’s , it’s also a great feeling when you achieve your goal ie when you realise what was wrong and sorted it, well done and don’t forget we all started somewhere and move forward in our knowledge!
    Well done 😀😀👍

Duluth Minnesota. I got family in duluth
Get used to playing with that carb specially when it gets cold
I moved from Pottstown pa to camden sc first car i worked on down here was a 2007 saab 95. The man spent over 6k on it four shops and one back yard in the mud im not even gonna call him a mechanic and still wasnt fixed. I got it in my garage and in one week had it all apart.piston #3 cracked right under the compression ring. He got it back in a month.sub frame and engine trans all out one shot in the shop tore apart fixed omitted the ballance shafts it cost him 567 in parts. Paid me 2500. I gave him a car 4 cylinder that would beat mustang gts all day

Duluth Junction... which is where the train to Duluth crossed another track. One of the reasons I changed the channel name.
Saabs can be a pain in the butt! I don't have a desire for any of the newer ones. Seems like a lot of extra BS without a lot of benefit. The one exception might be an OG 9⁵ Aero

my MGB has gone through a coil and two ‘accuspark’ electronic points, now I’m going back to points again, actually much more reliable!

After you test a condenser on the ohm setting of meter, discharge condenser or subsequent tests will be faulty. Discharge by touching wire of condenser to condenser body.

I did eventually restore the fuel tank, which solved my issues. That was October 2021...? I immediately drove it on a 700 mile road trip. Car is awaiting a front suspension rebuild which shall commence after the Corvair is on the road.

So all you needed to do was set the timing? I thought you had set the static timing. That should get you very close if you do it carefully.

Turns out it had fuel sediment issues which for whatever reason preferred too much initial timing advance. I later restored the fuel tank which made it run even better
