I just got back from looking at wood stains at Home Depot. After reading the warnings on the back of the can, I put it right back down. No way. So, now I'm looking for natural ways to stain my pine butcher block desk. Thanks so much for this video!
I tried green tea, black tea, red wine and steel wool+vinegar on maple. By the way, steel wool+vinegar is supposed to brew for a week not just 2 days, and if you prime it with a very strong brew of tea and add multiple alternating tea/steel wool+vinegar coats you get a nice black (this is also called ebonizing wood) AND make sure to wash the steel wool with dish soap, rinse well and dry it before placing it in the vinegar, since it is pre-oiled to prevent oxidisation and the oil prevents you from getting the most out of your stain. Other stains I used are walnut brew (just boil walnuts) or black tea tincture (denatured alcohol and tea which has been soaking for several months in the alcohol). Wood can also be stained with watercolor ink as long as you apply a shellac varnish (which naturally provides uv protection, watercolor is very sensitive to uv light).
Wow, great tips! thank you. 👌🏼😁
Is watercolor natural
When you say prime it with tea, what does that mean exactly?
This is years later… but I’m staining a jute rug and this was VERY helpful 🫶🏼
Very well done. Good props, good text, good recipe info. Extremely educational and informative.
Brilliant ideas!! Like you combos alot
Awesome video! Great walkthrough of all the steps and love the creativity of combining stains 😁🤙🏼
It pretty awesome how creative you can be with these wood stains isn’t it? Thanks for the love! 🥰
Love this ty❤
My favorite is the coffee!
I am so glad I found your channel. You do some great things on here.
I'm so glad you did too. Thanks for watching :)
They all turned out so pretty. Thank you. I thought the cocoa would be darker.
Great job! So clever, using what most have on hand. The vinegar and tea stains are favorites!
Great choices! 👌🏼 Glad you enjoyed, and thanks for watching. ☺️

I really liked the 2 day steel wool stain.
Good choice! 👍🏻
What! I learned so much, how cool. Also you are adorable and I love the bloopers at the end.
I could have done a whole video of bloopers. 😂
Great video, if you have a video in which you experiment with red wine and coffee and or chocolate or red wine and a two day steel wool mix please let me know. I'm curious to see if you can make pine wood resemble a burgundy cherry wood or mahogany with these staining techniques.
Very good! you got me to sub. Well done.
That’s awesome! Thanks so much for watching! 😁
You are too clever for words! I am planking all of my climbing plants, and this staining technique is just what it needed. 💚💚💚
Love that! And thank you. 🥰
Can i do this tomorrow iso right NOW?
Hey sweet video and great ideas! Will these stains wash out if left outdoors? I want to naturally stain my wooden plant pots 🪴👌👍
I've used most of these and they won't really "wash" out but they can still get everywhere. Just make sure you seal them in. For example, I made a bar and used the steel wool and vinegar method. The top was sealed 8 months ago. The bottom wasn't. I was putting lights on this weekend and the color got all over my hands from the bottom.
The others I've noticed will run if not sealed.
I use spar urethane for outdoor. I'll use a poly if I don't care about outdoor
I feel the struggle in the bloopers :) :) :)
I go through the same thing when making my videos 😂
lol. Right! I've just decided to embrace them. :)
You are nice girl! And thanks for a video. About wood is so interesting. Why you haven't more views? I don't understand.
Thank you! 🥰
Can someone help me here??? But for the vinegar and turmeric. Did she also add in the coco powder in. To make a darker wood?
No, I did just vinegar and turmeric. The coco was mixed with just water. Hope that helps. ☺️
Suprised you didn't use red onion skins or beete
You let your steel wool rust. I comes out black to grey when done properly
Correct. The longer you leave it in there the darker the stain.
Coco and
