The Shigeru Kawais' clarity is just surreal. It's as clear as distilled water.

Finally, a comparison of somewhat mellow-sounding pianos! SO many on YT have excessive brilliance due to recording technique or aggressive voicing or...?

I'm very impressed with the mid--range of the Shigeru. I thought the Bosendorfer would dominate. Not the case. Love the fact that Shigeru Kawai (depending where you live) will send a technician from JP to your home to voice the SK to your room acoustics. Everyone else has you rely on the dealer's service men.

I'm a Bosendorfer fan hard core. I've noticed they were recorded in different rooms. The S. Kawai had an acoustical advantage owing to the much larger space for reverberation than the one the Bösendorfer was in. The two extra inches of the S. Kawai over the Bösendorfer made a huge difference in depth. Admittedly, I preferred the depth and clarity of the S. Kawai because it was closer to the Imperial. I hope Bösendorfer redesigns the 225 because it's missing something. I've played them before and didn't like them. It's like the forgotten child in the Bösendorfer family. I much preferred the Porsche Edition 210 they built sometime back. Throw in the Grotrian Steinweg as well because that's another one of my favorites for its balance and clarity. I own a 277 because I couldn't afford the Imperial.

It's a little thinner but a lot cleaner than the full opulent sound from the Bösie

Bosendorfer´s sound seems louder and deeper . But I really love the SK’s sound.

Bosendorfer: Great bass harmonics. Kawai: Clearer sound overall. Both great. I prefer the Kawai from the sound in this video.

I can confirm that from playing SK5 and a 192(?) Bösendorfer in a shop. Kawai has incredible transparency - I've only heard an equally nice treble in a restored 1940s Steinway L.

I' m not argung but Bosendorfer sounds more unnecessarily relaxed than Shigeru~ Regarding cost effectivity Shigeru sounds just great~:)

I would like to see the Shigeru Kawai compared to a Bosendorfer VC piano (214VC), not the older design featured here. The VC piano has a different rim and projects much stronger and is also a new design debuting in 2015 vs 2000 for the Shigeru. So the newer design are more computer-aided in their design although traditionally manufactured. Kawais in general have a strong bass and a very full sound. The Bosendorfer has a medium body but it is noticeably lighter in body than the Shigeru Kawai. I think the Bosendorfer is a bit more plaintive in its singing tone but that Shigeru sings strongly as well.

Claramente Shigeru Kawai es muy superior, un sonido melodioso, dulce y agradable al oído.

Interestingly that the Bosendorfer sounds more depressed than the SK2. I guess different pieces suit different pianos, but I can’t afford both 😓

Not sure what happened to the Bösendorfer’s sound, relative to their other models. The recording here almost sounds like a partition or canvas screen was placed between the microphone and piano. Perhaps the extra spruce has reduced the vibrations so substantially, that all the medium to high frequencies have reduced db.

The SK7 is stunning. But the Bösendorfer is masterpiece.
Would such a piano like these fit in a 26' x 18' (and a height of 13-14') room?

That should work well, but it also partly depends on furnishings etc in the room. Feel free to contact us for more information on this.

Hm... I am in general a big fan of Bösendorfers. Since years I always tell myself I need a 225. I have played the a bit smaller SK6 and liked it too, but not to the level I liked the Bösendorfers.
I have to admit though: out of these two and based only on the sound of this video, I would probably take this SK7 above this B225

Bösendorfer wins for me. More balanced sound, more voice-like. The Shigeru seems to have a dominant bass and sounds very round, maybe bell-like and also very beautiful. Like the Bösendorfer recorded with U-like equalizer-settings. I would like to have both. Maybe would change my mind if I played them in person.

He states that Bosendorfer is the oldest surviving premium piano maker in the world (from 1828), which is not true: that accolade goes to Sauter which started in 1819.

Bösendorfer has a very stylish logo. Shigeru Kaway has a kind of a tacky one. I know it's not that important when you have a piano of this level of quality, but they could do better. I do even prefer the traditional "K. Kawai" over it.

Couldn’t agree more! Took me quite a while to accept the font/design of the logo. maybe other people are fine with it but It just looks messy/disturbing to me.

Both are wonderful pianos. The K7 is slightly out of tune, reason why it doesn't sound as good as the Bosendorfer in this case.

The Bosendorfer has a Richer sound. The S Kawai is nice but lacks the colored and articulate sound of premium pianos. You can only compare Bosendorfer to a Hamburg Steinway, a Fazioli, a Bluthner, a Sauter, a Grotrian Steinweg But never to a Japanese piano of any caliber Sorry. They just don’t compare. I would compare the S Kawai to a Schimmel premium Konzert Grand or a Yamaha CXF

Here is a better recording of a top end S Kawai. They recorded the Kawai and bosendorfer in different rooms in this video which I don't think is fair to their true sound.

    • @patrickjones8255
      @patrickjones8255 3 роки тому +1

In fact. I find the Kawai to be very very similar to fazioli in sound and temper. Whereas a bösendorfer is a much different texture.

@@patrickjones8255 I appreciate your response, thank you ! I have yet to find a Shigeru Kawai that has a permium piano sound. I have just come across a 2001 Mason & Hamlin A which is a 5' 8" grand piano that has an amazing premium sound. Top Tier pianos are not easy to find. Maybe you have been lucky to have found great Shigeru Kaway grand pianos, I have not.
