    Thats interesting because i remember building a huge park in rct2 as a kid where half of it was only accessible via a chairlift. People got stuck on the other end and my rating plumeted. I built a path connecting the two sides and it shot right back up, so i know that was the issue.
    That being said, it was a cashless park, so maybe the AI is different because money isnt part of the equation, so the guests didnt "see it as a free transport ride"?
    Any thoughts?

  • @jackradzelovage6961
    @jackradzelovage6961 Рік тому +3

    in parks that have isolated areas connected by transport rides, are guests able to pathfind through the ride to get to something in another area, or are isolated areas still always a bad idea?

    • @Pystro
      @Pystro Рік тому

      (This is all as far as I understand it.) The guests won't find a path that goes through any transport ride. But if they can't find a path, they'll wander in the general direction of the thing they're trying to get to. So you only have to make sure that the transport ride (entrance) that can take them there is in the general area where this would get them stuck.
      I.e. if you have an island that is only reachable by a transport ride, place the queue entrance on the end of the island that is facing the rest of your park.

    This video is very short and sweet and shares a lot of secrets to easily beat the game. I've known about the "infinite wait time" glitch for a long time and used it to beat parks without guests going on any rides, because I think that's pretty funny. Not to mention the brilliance of guests using transport rides at all times; who knew that? 4:10 For example, glosses over the fact that if you build rides with no path to the entrance in order to increase your guest cap, then guests will become lost searching for the rides, get unhappy, and then leave the park. Apparently using transport rides solves that problem though.
    I was planning on achieving maximum guest cap without a single guest riding anything, but I suppose even that is too easy now. Or is it? It still seems like it would be rather expensive to maintain a park without guests riding anything. Perhaps what I would do is place the rides strategically, build a food stall (maximum food prices) and close the ride so that guests will leave the queue. Their hunger fills up the entire time they are in the queue, so they all purchase food items. Simply place a No Entry sign, and have the guests slowly re-enter into the queue. I suppose that could generate cash from hungry cattle, and you wouldn't lose any guests that way.

    • @MarcelVos
      @MarcelVos  Рік тому +11

      The reason guests don't become unhappy searching for the unreachable rides in that Amity Airfield speedrun is because they enter a queue line very quickly and once they're in a queue they don't search for other rides.
      It's not a property of transport rides, but transport rides to facilitate the strategy.

    • @adamj2381
      @adamj2381 Рік тому +4

      @@MarcelVos Great video Marcel. Yes, thank you, it wasn't clear to me exactly how you solved that problem. You're saying that the queue lines were close enough that the guests never went looking? I seem to recall my guests coming into the park and quickly searching for rides on the other end of the map, even though they were identical, or less exciting than the ones in front of them. It was a fun experiment, but I haven't had time to go back and play it over again. I also used Amity Airfields for fun-running. It was very satisfying to see every guest leave the queue and buy a food or drink at very high prices at nearly the exact same time.

    The 127 number sounds like it's something to do with a number in the calculation being a signed 8-bit integer, since those allow for values from -128 to 127. So if it's looking for some 8-bit signed integer to be greater than 127 before the ride starts, it's literally impossible for it to have that value.

    • @hi-i-am-atan
      @hi-i-am-atan Рік тому +2

      i'm honestly not all that convinced that it'd be all that terrible to implement actual pathfinding into openrct2, including factoring in transport rides ( after all, ride duration is already a calculated stat, so as long as you score found paths by travel time, you can just score the transport ride as time to get to the queue + projected queue time + ride time + time to get from the exit to your destination ). there's plenty of popular pathfinding algorithms out there that are open to use, after all, and the extremely tile-based movement of rct2 means a lot of 'em would be well-suited to it
      it's more just a matter of a. the stupidity of the guests are a p. major factor in how your park operates, so pathfinding would have significant ramifications on gameplay b. there's a lot of guests and they're constantly moving around, so a lot of care would need to be put into choosing and algorithm and implementing it efficiently as to not make high-population ( and esp. those with complex path layouts ) parks even harsher on the cpu, and c. someone has to _actually do it_ and do it well enough that the current maintainers feel it's worth including in the main repo
      and c. is really just kinda the main thing w/ open source projects. the actual difficulty of an implementation matters significantly less than the simple matter of if anyone is actually _interested_ enough to put in the time to implement it

    What do you mean we'll have to find out ourselves what other uses there are for trapping guests? You explaining those reasons are why I watch this channel!

    Is there a chance that a guest with a clear path to the exit will jump into a transport ride, just because he happens by its entrance? is there no code for guests that have found a path to their destination to ignore transport rides? And if yes, how can you prevent the guests from getting taken back to the rear of the park repeatedly?

    As a note, if you want them to become actually happy in the queue line you can add an entertainer or two walking its length.

    Is there a way to use this to "sort guests" into "want to go home" and not? So you can "remove" those that do and keep the spenders in?
