Your work on this video helped to uncover a bug in the award for best staff that has persisted in OpenRCT2 since 2014 - The function didn't actually correctly check if you have a staff member of every kind, and several other checks were left out. I see the developers made it a milestone for version 0.4.3, so it should be fixed in the upcoming Release version.
Hopefully they are also changing the code mentioned in 13:00 so it first removes an expiring award before it checks if you can receive an award. This would allow someone to have 4 awards for 2+ months in a row
I went to Six Flags Purgatory because it had so many prestigious awards, but when I got there, they just funneled me into a long line behind a thousand other people, and I had to watch crappy amusement park line TV for all eternity. 10/10

Since you've discovered that you can reset the seed which determines the award, technically you wouldn't need to qualify for as many awards if you were strapped for cash - you could qualify for the awards it's cheapest to qualify for and keep resetting the seed until you got lucky. It would take more real-world time (and thus increase the tedium, better have a TV handy), but wouldn't require as much cash.
You somehow made tons of guests want to go to a park with plenty of rides that you can never go on, food you can never buy, bathrooms you can never go in, and a monorail that goes nowhere, never thinking anything else because of the TVs that keep them in line forever. For some reason this feels like an analogy for something but I'm not sure what...
Feels like watching a TAS. Apart from some very minor details like the exact number of frames that you unpause for, this is the first time anyone has ever done truly perfect play of RCT. I love the alien quality of play that you get, once you optimize for The Best Possible.
How was this a "perfect play"? Marcel claimed in the video he was strapped for cash yet also built extraneous coasters simply to get a power of 2 of them, for example.
@@thomassynths He got enough cash to totally max out the guest generation (other than some slight imperfection at placing things fast enough during the first month). Since he's hitting the theoretical cap, having a bit more money wouldn't help for the goal he's targeting at all.

A challenge I would love to see is building the 'perfect' park. Have at least one of every type of ride, stall, scenery, etc. while also meeting the criteria for every positive award and keeping negative guest thoughts below a certain threshold. Love your channel.
I'm glad you drew attention to 'pausing' the game when selecting/browsing in game menus - it can be such a time saver in scenario play, especially when you hotkey the 'pause' button like you were!

Hey marcel. Saw something on your “1000 rides in a 22x22” video and wanted to comment on a newer vid so you’d see it. You were wondering why all the entertainers were gathering in the corner of the park. They do this for the same reason as the impossible maze path finding algorithm. All the exit paths were on the same side of the path. Thought it was worth mentioning.
I reckon there's a slight difference between 'guests staying in your park at one time' and 'guests coming through your gate in a year'. It'd be interesting to see the other strategy (maximise guests input but also remove guests to allow more footfall through the gates)
The guest spawning is already maximized for the entire duration of the year here. You cannot get any more guests except by getting the park rating to 850 slightly faster and by having a bit better RNG (but that should vary very little over such a large amount of time).
Somehow, this is my first time realizing the "year" is only March-October. Which makes sense for a theme park, but makes it even more disturbing that guests never leave even while the park is presumably closed/nonexistant during the months of the Winter
Marcel Marcel, how I love your vids Reminds me of the days when I was a kid Playing RCT2 with my sister and friends With rides and joys that never would end Even now, though I am older, and life can be strange There is one thing that I know shall never be changed My love for this game that still fills me with joy Taking me way back to when I was a boy Thank you, Marcel for your humor and wit Thank you for always cheering me up a bit Thank you for getting me back into this game If I ever stopped playing, it would be a shame If I ever am sad, if I ever am blue I can always watch Marcel play RCT2
I guess the only very little optimisation to this question would be to build a custom scenario which only has one tile of path before the entrance since that shortens the entryway to the park and that might pack some 20-30 guests or so. Other than that, insane optimisation there, Marcel, and the tidbit about RNG manipulation was really fascinating. Always enjoy your videos.
Imagine if this game had official scenario with goal of 4000 guests at the end of yer 1 or 8000 guests at the end of year 2 that you had to complete in order to move on.

this park is pretty cursed. even more whenever you think about what's going on: thousands of people standing still in a cue line forever without food or anything, continuously blasted with TV but yet still staring forward to the person before them waiting for a ride that never will start or finish. not to forget the huge amount of actual working coasters with no way to access. and still this park gets overrun with people and awards. love it
There is a bit of time between when guests enter the park and when they get into the cue line, is it possible for guests that haven't joined the cue line yet to think the park is pretty and thus qualifying for the other positive awards?
More than 1 in 64 and 1 in 128 guests need to be thinking the park is tidy/pretty respectively, so it can only work when you don't have many guests yet. I tried it but it didn't work. It luckily doesn't matter for the outcome as we got the maximum amount of awards anyway.
12:45 Well this does make sense. You wouldn't need the check for the maximum if they expired before the check went off, since you'd never reach a 5th one anyway.
Since switching to OpenRCT2 I just enable building while paused, but before that I would often use the unpause, build, pause trick. Origonally started using it in Locomotion when making very long tracks across the map.
Would be interesting to see a glitchless category of this same record, where the train does eventually cycle the guests through so you have to build such a long and circuitous track as to keep guest loss as low as possible.
I think if you started with all of these pre-built as part of a scenario it'd be a good way to do repeated testing, unless starting a new scenario doesn't change the seed.
