FILM PROLOGUE:
“Ode To My Father” is the story of Deok-Su, a completely ordinary man, who in the face of tumultuous events, marshalls extraordinary courage to protect his family. Together they live through some of modern history’s most significant events and experience their real, human toll. As a child, Deok-Su loses his father in the chaos amidst climbing onto the SS Meredith, a U.S. naval ship which evacuated over 14,000 refugees from the North Korean city of Hungnam during the Korean War. His last words to his father were an oath that he would always protect their family at all costs. As he grows into an adult, that vow leads him to the coal mines of 1960’s Germany, and even into the jungle of the Vietnam War. Viewers will be swept away by this epic and inspirational tale of ordinary fathers, who muster superhuman resilience for the sake of family.
