How to download GarageBand on iOS 12 (iPhone/iPad)

- GarageBand not showing up in the App Store? Trying to download GarageBand on your iPhone or iPad running iOS 12 or earlier? In this video, I show you how to download GarageBand iOS on your iPhone or iPad if you are running iOS 12 and unable to update to the latest version in iOS 13.
GarageBand updated to version 2.3.8 in October 2019, and the new version is only compatible with iOS 13. If you are running an iPhone or iPad that is one iOS 12 or earlier, you can still download GarageBand, but you can't search and download straight from the App Store.
Here's how to download GarageBand iOS on iOS 12:
1. If you have downloaded it before, go to the App Store and the "Today" tab, then go to your account and to "Purchased". Find "GarageBand" in the list of app and download
2. If you have NOT downloaded it before, you need to either get someone who HAS downloaded it to sign in to your iPhone or iPad using their Apple ID and then download it to your device, OR you can log in to an iOS 13 compatible device using your Apple ID, download GarageBand there, then return to your iOS 12 device and you will be able to download the latest version (version 2.3.7) to your older device.
What iPhones and iPads are compatible with iOS 13?
1. iPhone 6S/SE or more recent
2. iPad Air 2 or more recent
3. iPad Mini 4 or more recent
4. Any iPad Pro

Keep watching. There are three different ways to download the last version in older versions of iOS which will work with and iPhone 6.

Didn’t work for me :( I have an iPad Air but it won’t update past os 12.4.4
I followed these steps but there’s no option to download an older version, I just says require i03 13 or later
Make sure you have deleted any version that is trying to update, and only go in via the App Store and through you account as shown in the video, and you should be cool.

Apple: we have “chosen to” to do this so we don’t “limit” our capabilities to features from iOS 12 and its newer version iOS 13 has higher “availability for” most users. There is “no” Mobile OS more fast and optimised than iOS 13 and has become “apparent” that GarageBand can only get better if the older phones get left out because they are simply aren’t powerful enough for that “reason”.

Pete Johns i see that. But there isn’t anything new in GarageBand that *needs* ios 13
True. And the good news is that the new sound pack was delivered to version 2.3.7 on iOS 12 as well as 2.3.8 on iOS 13. So it looks like they will continue to add new sounds to the older version, at least for now. All that's different in 2.3.8 is the dark mode and USB files support.

I had a lot of emotions in this video... at first I was disappointed because you said that it works on iPhones 6S and above so that made me sad then I tried logging in into my moms account and it logged in but when I opened the search bar and wrote garage band the search bar was empty so that made me so freaking sad and then I tried opening the purchased apps and surprisingly I saw GARAGEBAND AND IMOVIE!!!!!!!! THANK YOU 🙏 I JUST GAINED A SUBSCRIBER THAT IS HELLA HAPPY!!!!! that is the first video that I felt I was in need and helped me a lot!

Hey there. iPhone 6S will be able to update to iOS 13 and download it. Otherwise, if it’s an iPhone 6 only that you have, you will need to find someone with an account or device you can borrow.

Hey there. Suggest you try deleting it completely and then going back in to re-download and install. Sometimes it can get stuck trying to update and will just sit there. Also can help to turn off and back on again.

I'm not sure folks will want to provide their Apple ID and password directly to you. I would ask around your friend and family groups to see if someone has a newer devices you can log in to, or is willing to log themselves in to your iPhone/iPad.

There’s really not much that the new version of GarageBand offers at this stage. But yes, it means version 2.3.7 will be the last supported GarageBand version for iPhone 6 and earlier.
