Apple would go to any length to make you try their products. Be it hardware or software. This was the first app I had uninstalled after my device was set up. Then I used to buy ringtones from iTunes Store. Recently I wanted some custom-made ringtones from Taylor's Midnights Album and voila here I am watching this tutorial and installing Garage Band again to set a ringtone!! Genius apple!!

I used to use a huwawei and it would let me set my ringtone just using the app i listened to music on

absolutely amazing video! my only slight nitpick was that i spent like an hour and 30 minutes trying to figure out how to put the audio i wanted to use into the garageband app, but then i realized it probably needed to be an mp3, and that was the problem. that should prolly be mentioned, but this is an absolutely PERFECT video otherwise.
And how did you figure it out, i cant fucking find a way to put it into this gitar app

For those who are having trouble, remember the portion of the video where he says to “drag”. Don’t be deterred by the wording in the app that says some songs can’t be used. Hold your song of choice down and move it in a dragging gesture and the song will be placed into the editing panel and then follow the instructions in the rest of the video to create the ringtone ✨✨✨.

Initially when I select my song that I downloaded from iTunes, it says the song is protected and not found in my local file. But I followed your instruction to hold and drag the song and it works!! Thank you so much !!

If your reading this you’ll need two phones, use one to play the song or audio you want, and use the other to do a voice recording, after you do that use the three dot button to share and save to files. This works every time I’ve tried it.

Super useful, I didn’t think this GarageBand trick is still working.
Tip if you don’t want the start of the song as a ringtone remain in auto until you got to the poi of the song you like, the put the 30s limit.

Fantastic, it worked thank you very much Daniel! It might be a little convoluted for something so simple, but that’s entirely on Apple and their closed ecosystem / greed of the iTunes/tones store. At least there’s this relatively straightforward ringtone, which is fantastic!

Does this still work on the new update?
I followed all the steps until the part where you select the file, but the song is grayed out and you cannot add it to the garage band app.
They are "protecting" music now, Unfortantly this many year old work around has ended. Now you have to either use a ripped copy and import it into garage band, or just pay the $1.39.
No it is working fine
You can screen record from UA-cam, put it through an mp4 to mp3 converter (avoid all pop ups) and name the file something else. It doesn’t recognize it at that point (ime).

Thank you so much. You were the only person to ever explain all the steps needed to take. Had a little bit of complications with the last step or so, but by pressing different buttons I managed to get it as my ringtone. All the anime intros I can play with this 😈

@@litastar2455 Same. On Samsung it literally took me maybe a minute max to make a ringtone. On iPhone I can’t make a ringtone at all.
It wasn’t always this hard. When I had an iPhone 4 you could choose a song from your library and set as ringtone. This is so ridiculous now.

Wow! Thanks, I’ve been trying to do this for a long time and I was always told I needed to download sketchy software and apps. This is really simple and I’m glad someone is finally showing me the correct way. The song I’m using is the house building theme from Red Dead Redemption 2

Do you know if there is a way to share the completed ringtone with someone else? Eg, hotspot, sms, email.
Of course you press share and select song and then share it and if the person has iOS. You can share the project so they’ll be able to open it the same way in the end and save it and also put a ringtone but if you send it over as a song. The person has to do the same thing inside garage band from the one that you are sending to them.
And if you are sending it to an android person.
Only send it as a song. And they just have to figure it out how to set it up in the phone.
You don’t have to do audios only. If you are a musician. You can actually make your own beats in there for free there are tons of sounds like piano drums strings. I make my own beats and ringtones. And if you know how to download videos from UA-cam or from Safari you can save those inside your files app and also put it as a ringtone.
