Jeff, thank you so much for featuring me in this video. It turned out great!
Folks who have commented or reached out about my anxiety disorder, thank you so much for caring. Good news, it's entirely due to steroids, and those I take entirely voluntary with no compulsion or addiction. As soon as I want, I can stop them and within days I don't have severe anxiety disorder anymore and within weeks I barely have anxiety at all. I HATE how they make me feel, but I have a few goals in bodybuilding left to accomplish, so I deal with it. I have a knack for doing very hard things that take a long time, so this is right up my alley. No need to worry about me!
PS: If I die before my due time from the cardiovascular shit... it's been real and this is what I wanted. Do not ever feel the need to be sympathetic of me. - Dr. Mike

Why are you feeling cheated ? You were always going to be bald. Had you started juicing in your teens, you would have lost your hair even sooner than you did.
It’s like feeling cheated over something you never had in the first place.
Juicing doesn’t turn people that weren’t going to be bald, bald.
If you genetically were going to suffer from male pattern baldness, steroids would have just accelerated that process.

    So benefits of steroids:
    - get bigger muscles
    The downsides:
    - acne
    - small balls that stop producing your own testosterone
    - baldness
    - abscess risk
    - anxiety, random rage, constant high libido
    - man-boobs
    - higher risk for heart failure
    - lower IQ, older Brain
    - when taken at a young age you might stop growing in height and mentally
    Is this worth it?

For those wondering about the title, the channel "kurzgesagt" recently made a video titled "Smoking is awesome" and it follows the same narrative, down to the "let's smoke a cigarette together" and then go through the physiological effects. Many people commented it was the best anti-smoking video they'd ever seen and I think it's an awesome idea by Jeff to make a "mirror video" about steroids. They will be a huge health burden for many in the near future.

I have already started noticing faster gains. I often get compliments of my friends who do not lift that I am ‘wham’, needless to say when I’m in the gym I feel small. So many people do steroids now it takes away from the people who put in even more effort naturally… I am always debating if I should start a cycle. You have made me realise I am on the right path. But I found at my age, muscle wasn't the most extreme benefit, decreased depression and enhanced mood, increased energy and less need for sleep, libido of a teenager, extreme confidence, those were much more noticeable than some popping veins or big guns... Even though its good more fitness influencers are being honest about the gear, the problem is they never talk about the negative long term effects. I remember when Larry Wheels made his video talking about stopping his gear people just glossed over the small part where he mentioned he still was taking TRT (AKA...steroids...) because his body literally would no longer make testosterone. They just spent the whole time gushing over the fact that he was actually talking about his gear use. Its almost as though it has become normalized, which is what makes it so dangerous to younger people. They will always be less likely to worry about future consequences in favor of immediate benefits, especially in todays world where instant gratification has become the norm.

As a woman, this is very similar to plastic surgery in the beauty world. A lot of women get praised for being 'transparent' about plastic surgery, which I get, but then that's also lead to a huge influx of plastic surgery operations. The side effects are much more rarely discussed, but the popularity increases on a daily basis, which then leads to increased feelings of dissatisfaction/body dysmorphia --> more surgery.

    • @VikingRul3s
      @VikingRul3s 3 місяці тому

But cyber enhancements are right around the corner, so isn't it better we start talking about BOTH the good and bad sides? In this echo age, we're aren't even able to get challenged in our own believes, the algorithms are making sure of it. So if you choose to only inform about one side of whatever, the audience will by default be someone that agrees with you. Take Jeff here, his bias is certainly controlling this video, so it'll mostly be shown for like-minded. In terms of legit criticisms and actually starting a proper discussion, this video isn't delivering.

I'm looking forward to seeing Jeff's study about maximizing natural potential after lifting regularly for already so many years. Then add in something about the suns fantastic ability to give skin cancer. There, now you're scared of everything and will never do anything in your life again... Brillant comment...

33 year old natural lifter here. I've been lifting ever since I was 11 years old. Competed in some natural bodybuilding competitions in my 20s. Solid overall physique. Thinking about going on TRT in the future when I turn 45 years old or so, when the natural testosterone is on a decrease. I would love to see a video specifically on starting steroids in your mid 40s or early 50s, under the guidance of a doctor or nurse (looking specifically at healthy individuals who have never touched steroids prior to this, who have been training for 10+ years, and have built a solid foundation + stick to other overall good health options). I would love to see a video detailing the results of these findings, and the benefits vs. drawbacks.
    Great video. Thanks Jeff.

I've got a great channel recommendation then. Search "Ask the Doc" and the channel is MuscleInsider... He runs a trt clinic in Cali I believe and is an ex BB and deals with clients that take everything but especially basic trt or moderate testosterone.
I've been using testosterone full time for 8 years since I was 37. My anecdotal experience is that testosterone is extremely mild. There are all these scare stories about dead BBs and "steroids are so dangerous and full of sides..." But rarely do articles distinguish JUST TEST use vs ALL the steroids that exist, and BBs take insulin typically and don't just do test.
I've found it will give you a great boost and make cutting way easier due to muscle sparing. It increases libido and mood and you require less sleep you'll notice. You'll get great gains on anything from 300mg to 600mg and those are moderate and safe dosages and myself and other forum users found is mild enough you don't even need an ai to prevent gyno. But 120mg up to 200mg is considered trt or mini cycle territory. But research I've seen shows no health drawbacks using 600mg indefinitely, so I'm not afraid to take this dosage and get the added benefits. I've never gone over this dosage and don't want to.
As for health, I really can't say much and it's anecdotal anyways. I'm not balding genetically and it hasn't affected my hair. All my blood work has been normal... My biggest fear is cardiovascular as I have no idea how to gauge or monitor the heart, I fear that hardening or enlargement of the heart could occur which would shorten lifespan.
Hope that helps but check out that channel. Tons of great info and questions answered from a source way more authoritative than myself.

I really appreciate that you bring to light some of these real concerns. I have spoken with colleagues about this paradoxical effect that increased honesty amongst influencers has had on steroid usage, and that complete honesty is still not achieved by just stating that they are taking steroids and sometimes specifics about cycles. Again, very much appreciated and keep up the good work!

It seems like a paradox, but its how shaming and taboos work.
The more you speak of something, doesnt matter if in a good or bad light, it will make it less scary thus more popular.
It hurts to say but this video will get more people into steroids because most kids, not only cannot sit down and pay attention for 15 mins, they wont have the "fear" that previous generations had, because everyone talks about it.
Its the taboo that kept most people off of steroids, not information factually showing why its bad.
So now, at this point, you have to go full on "why steroids are bad" and make every parent teach to their kids, if you want a positive influence. Anything shorter than that, will end more kids

@@newme1589 The increased problem with steroids and some of the ratchet behavior with men and women is because of the many morons that give attention to "fitness influencers" that is leading to more problems. Hi Jeff!
I just wanted to remind you, when you are thinking about taking steroids that you are also an influencer for many people that want to build natural bodies and for some, maybe an idol. Like the bodybuilders that influence people by saying they take steroids, you also have influence by doing the opposite. You show people that you can have actual progress without taking steroids and also have a healthy life in general.
I really appreciate your mindset of "maybe I am at my max, and that is okay". More people should think like you.

I abused steroids in my 20s for about 3 years straight, blast and cruise, never cycled off. When I finally decided it wasn’t worth it, there had already been some permanent damage. Within months I experienced severe mental health problems. I couldn’t focus on anything, was overwhelmed by anxiety most of the time, and lost any ambition to accomplish anything. Eventually I sought help, and tried anti depressants, anti anxiety meds, and even ADHD medication. While these drugs certainly did something, they didn’t treat the underlying issue, and their effects lost potency over time. Eventually, I was encouraged by a friend to check my test levels. I was 33 at the time, and my test was 302 ng. While this is technically within normal range (barely) I was still encouraged by my dr to try TRT and see how I respond. I feel normal now. Maybe when you’re in your 40s you’ll benefit from it, but until you hit that age, your test levels will be naturally high, so you will make gains, especially in your late teens to mid 20s.

But judging by your comment, I think you'll make good choices in your life, as the key is to fully evaluate your significant life choices. As someone who has made all manner of good and bad decisions throughout my life, I can say that what is ultimately important is longevity. Focus your goals on being able to be as mobile as possible so that you can enjoy life for as long as possible and get the most out of it. I used a "TRT" mini cycle a few years ago and something that wasn't mentioned but worth noting in my case is that if you suffer from depression it probably isn't smart to do this. Steroids may cause anxiety dose dependently but they also make you feel more confident, they make you feel powerful and like you're in control. It 100% cured my depression while I used them, that said nothing since then has ever made me feel that way again. I long for that feeling more than I do to get bigger, unless you're willing to commit for life just don't do it yet. Committing for life also means accepting you probably won't have kids since you'll always be cruising it, so either be okay with that or prepare at a "milk" bank so you still can. Personally I plan to wait until I've had a family and don't want more kids before getting back on permanently.

My main thing with steroids is that people forget the actual potential of the human body as well as what the true meaning of bodybuilding is. Currently(on social media) bodybuilding is equated with how freaky you can look, how dickskin lean you can be, and how much weight you can throw up and use all those things to either sell programs or get clients. But true bodybuilding used to be about building a aesthetic, beautifully powerful, muscle bound body- Building. A body. Training it and progressing in movements, enjoying the joy of pushing yourself and then reaping the fruits of your labor by achieving large muscles. Large muscles which symbolically and literally represent self improvement, progress, vitality, strength, and good health. Bodybuilding is about building a body in which you exist in forever, into a statuesque entity. Bodybuilding is respecting your ability as a human to develop and push yourself out of mediocrity and have great physical capabilities. Bodybuilding is and should be a medium through which you become the best version of you, for yourself, for your family and your loved ones to be strong and healthy to play and live a long happy life.
But currently because of social media it all belongs to how many clicks you can get, what drama you can stur up, controversial opinions, and the abuse of steriods in order to fit into a crowd and make money in the industry. Its become a business instead of a physical practice. Steroid use and abuse is so abundant because there is barely anyone normal anymore, every week you see a freak on instagram you see a more heavier, bigger, stronger person on youtube everyday. And because of that gap between the pre existing abusers and the naturals who get anxiety and form a lack of patience- results in another victim who falls under the guise of steroids.
The average man can achieve every single they want in bodybuilding as long as they learn how to program, train hard, eat well, and sleep. As well as achieve their physique/strength while also living ling enough to see their grandchildren get married.
Steroids only form an external factor for you to latch onto in order to get quick results and immediate gratification. But there is no sense of fulfillment. Its never just one cycle. You take one cycle, get resulsts then come off of it- the results you got wash away. There is no permanance to your results. Because you didnt build that muscle, the steroids did. So one cycle turns into 3 and 3 cycles turns into a laundry list of substances that you have to track and monitor in order to maintain your externally achieved physique. Not to mention the crippling body dysmorphia, aggressively low self esteem (despite the large physique),eating disorders, heart problems, and injuries. So now you have to spend a shit ton of money, to buy all your gear, you're not even a little happy with how you look, you got crippling depression, you barely enjoy your training, and your hearts probably gonna fail by 50.
Steroids arent worth it man. Train hard, keep realistic goals but know theres a LOT. That is possible, sleep well, and eat whole foods and some cookies too. Have some fucking fun training and enjoy laughing with your grandkids at 80 years old with a healthy pair of lungs, strong bones, and a joyous heart.

My main thing is, that bodybuilders lose their life very quick - they usually unalive at 50, like a marathonrunner.
If that doesn't happen, your body, all crippled, will have you end up in a wheelchair - like Ronnie Coleman.

There was rampant use of steriods in the military in the 80s. I remember watching friends of mine get huge within 6 months. And then watched them have the health issues. One close friend started lactating. The top BDUs were soaked by the end of the day. The ache. The rage.
The military banned any and all steroids use. Legal Consequences of Steroid Use in the Military
Specifically, the use, possession, distribution, or manufacture of a Schedule III substance - such as anabolic steroids and testosterone - can result in dishonorable discharge, reduction in rank, forfeiture of pay, and confinement for up to five years.
The military banned it for a reason.

Outstanding video. Jeff, I started following you almost 10 years ago when I first got into weightlifting. It started as something to stay in shape as I had recently got a desk job. It quickly turned into an obsession as I started noticing gains and learning more about all of it. Your channel was instrumental not only in my learning journey, but also keeping me from going down the steroid route. It’s funny now to think that I almost took the plunge. I had friends on it and others in the gym were on it. It was very tempting.
Looking back, I would have felt like an idiot for going down that road. I’m 31 now and married for 6 years. Steroids would have impacted my life in significantly negative ways, and I’m glad i didn’t go down that road. Thanks for doing what you do for the fitness community. You really care about what’s best for peoples lives in the big picture, and it shows.

There are so many expressions of "strength" worth pursuing, would love to see a movement of strong lifters who also build strong families, strong marriages, strong careers, strong friendships, and shoot, strong relationships with God too. That's my angle! Great video Jeff!

I'm a 61 yr old gay man. (this is relevant) I have always been skinny and been in the gym with extremely limited results which have kept me on the very slim side. In the gay community, there are a large portion of guys who juice so they can look hot on the dance floor and have better options for who to get laid with. I've always wanted to be in that position until recently when I realized that confidence weights so much more than muscle. People are naturally attracted to confidence. This took me 40 yrs to realize. I have put it into practice and it has proven itself to be true.
During the lockdown, I got a chin up bar and some resistance bands. I've been using them nearly every day since and I have made some gains and I look SO much better but I am still unable to really fill out a medium size t-shirt.
I have only now, seriously considered doing one cycle just to put me over the edge, then stop and maintain. After watching this, I have decided against that and just continue to sweat it out and grow naturally as my metabolism slows down. The final question is "who am I doing this for?" Steroids mean, for others; natural means for me.

One cycle is not gonna do much, in all honesty. You're going to make really good progress, and then when you cycle off, you're going to lose a large amount of what you gained on-cycle. It will take a massive amount of mental fortitude to do just one cycle, because you will fall in love with your progress made in those 10 weeks. No one really just does one cycle.

As a woman I had fears about looking like those women who are on steroids, without realizing that they were on gear. Then I had a friend of mine introduce me to pictures of silver era female body builders, they were slim and feminine, yet strong. So that inspired me to start lifting. My mother died at 29 and I'm currently 28 with a toddler, I want to be healthy and live a long time for my daughter. ❤ Thank you, Jeff, for showing people that its possible.

I now take .18 ml injection twice a week, and my testosterone level last checked was 480 ng/dl, about normal and no more symptoms of low testosterone.

I am thankful to say that after many years of juice use, and now 15 years on TRT+, I have a score of ZERO! I get tested every 2 years, it’s a easy test and only costed $60 with no insurance. Call your local hospitals today to see if they can get your test done as well. If you have buildup then they can get you on meds to prevent heart attack.

Methyl 1 Testosterone was LEGALLY sold in GNC when I was in high school. Around 2005 I hopped on my first cycle around the age of 15. Man it was amazing, felt like superman and had amazing gains that I kept my whole life, but I certainly crashed hard coming off and of course I didn't use PCT. Even though I managed to keep most of my gains and continued to train hard...psychologically it took a toll. I was and have always been more aggressive and it ruined relationships and friendships over the course of my life. I am way more chill now in my 30s, and keep myself and emotions under control but the feeling inside still amps up at times like when I was on the stuff back in the day.

I’ve always been aware of the negatives to using PEDs, which is why I decided a long time ago to never touch the stuff, as I want to live as long and healthy a life as possible…but I can see how people who don’t focus on their longevity or who value the quick short term gains over the many potential health and lifestyle risks can decide to use PEDs. More people need to watch this video, as education is everything on this topic. 💪

I agree. I find it worrying for the target audience of many of these bodybuilding influencers, the young teenagers and early 20 year old guys (and maybe gals?). When you are young you think you are invincible and that you are the exception and the negative effects won't apply to you. And body dysphoria is a really problem in that age group as well. With girls it used to be the thing above everything (anorexia). And now for boys it is the muscles (for girls as well, although I find it actually positive for women to be strong. The beauty standards for women is to be thin and weak. Too long have we heard you get "bulky " if you lift a bit of heavier weights. All not true. I just worry that everything will go into the extremes as well for girls.)

His skin was a mess though and covered in scars from acne. Anyway he got set up under the barbell and as I was spotting him the barbell caused an abscess on his neck to rupture which was pretty horrifying being so close to it as I was spotting it. I appreciate the good documentation on this topic from multiple people, not just OP. I'm a prior military (was Marine Infantry) guy, used to lift a lot in school, never did gear. In fact, I was stricter in the military days (no creatine or anything else because messing with your chemistry can drop you dead in a hot desert without warning especially under 782 gear). Well, I got injured pretty badly a few years before my contract was up and had to get out when that time came around (I never was a fan of that, since I didn't really get to make a choice). For a long time, I kept doing field exercises and kill drills with gear instead of lifting or gym stuff (you can definitely maintain serious fitness that way, I might add). No matter what I did though, I could never get back to where I wanted to be. I would always hit plateaus after so much rehab work or whatever dealing with prior injuries. I had been thinking about doing a baby dose after making sure I had gotten rid of any fat I could and had a completely clean blood chemistry. Of course, it's hard to be sure with those potential side effects. I hate being stuck being less effective than I used to be though, so it's a tough decision, but maybe that's what I get for having survived dozens and dozens of things that would have killed most people.

Since then, the next two weeks I began working out and adding protein and calorie surplus, I gained another 3lbs of fat free mass, totaling 10lbs of fat free mass in just 45 days.
