This is the 2nd time in a week I've been reintroduced & amazed at James Brown's dynamic presence on Late Night with Letterman. The chemistry he has with the band is unmatched. Phenomenal!
Eh.. as a fan of him he was better when he wasn’t in his bad drug addiction phase, ngl he’s good hear but it’s clear when he goes off pitch compared to his earlier songs
James always put a smile on my face when I heard his music on radio, or witnessed his magical performances on television. I had the wonderful opportunity to meet him my second year in college. He performed at the university I attended, and Jay Leno actually opened for him. He was simply Electric! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
James was a bad ass man, he deserve the title hardest working man, god father of soul and funk. He paved the way for so many artists. Ultimate performer singer entertainer, all that and more..may he rip. This made me smile and got my energy up. Thank you.😁❤️
How come when we ask about the greatest "Blue-eyed Soul" talents throughout history, we always forget to mention Paul Schaeffer? Paul was the one guy who could jam with anybody and everybody and had the dinstinction of having jammed on Letterman with James Brown, Bootsey Collins, Maceo Parker & Fred Wesley, Junior Walker and sooooooooooo many others. Shout-out to Paul Schaeffer!!!
As a musician who made my living in Augusta Georgia Mr Brown is a source of pride for us all. I remember where I was when I got the call that Mr Brown had left the building. It still hurts. Such was his overpowering funkyness. I came face to face with him once unexpectedly leaving a studio date as he came in and I was stunned silent, a rare condition for me
How cool is that-grab someone out the crowd, let them cut the rug with you a little on national TV, and give them the thrill of a lifetime. Gotta love JB.
Dave asked for "Sex Machine", Paul thought, "fuck that, we're starting with "I'll go crazy" - a theme he used in intermissions for many, many years. Paul Shaffer RULES.
Kids these days missed a lifetime's worth of great music.I mean what kind of hell would it be to grow up in a generation that missed out on James Brown, Michael Jackson and Freddie Mercury. I dunno if they went to heaven or hell but I wanna believe that the great Almighty one is a Big music lover.
When he was on, Mr. Brown could play some inspired keyboards! He is amazing here (starting at 4:35). When he was off though, his keyboard playing could be horrendous.
@BradgeTV and yet it’s all in tune and sounds fantastic. James Brown broke musical rules all the time. He was told many times his music was wrong but he ignored it and single-handedly created funk. Do you think I care about your comment? To me it’s the best organ playing for me from him. I don’t care if you don’t like it. Take your negative comments somewhere else.
14:51 "..2,3,4" JB counts in on the wrong step, hence Steve Jordan messes up for a split second :) Actually, he rhythmically counted in on the right step, but should have counted "1,2,3..". That's were the short confusion came from.
I really don't understand alot of the critiques and comments that come along with social media.First and Foremost those are not THE JBs.PAUL SCHAEFER AND THE WORLDS MOST DANGEROUS BAND Did A Great Job there were no miscounts or mistakes. The Majority of the Audience were on their Feet. And One Lucky Audience Member got to Dance on TV With JAMES BROWN and PAUL SCHAEFERS BAND.DAVID LETTERMAN Was Cool.By way of Taking Advantage of Having JAMES BROWN As a Guest and Celebrating Him and His Music While He was Living.Great Job DAVE ❤️ya.Love& Peace 😁😎 luv ya byo eJ
James seems disappointed by the audience. _"Get up!"_ .... *nothing* There was another Letterman appearance where JB was more like fueled by the audience, which he complimented during the interview. Anyway, the house band members are doing pretty good. I'd assume James wouldn't agree to do a show with just any bunch of musicians claiming to 'know' the songs.
To 'hello Germany' Mr. Brown didn't count wrong, he purposely meant to say '2,3,4', it went with the rhythm, he's done variations of this hundreds of times.
Without Carson, Letterman, Leno, and to a lesser extent, Arsenio, late night television is just not the same. Thumbs down because the band is not as good as the James Brown backing band and that lily white audience who couldn’t embrace the essence of a soulful artist like JB, including that awful dancing of the lady he pulled on stage. Painful to listen and watch
The best introduction Letterman ever had.
@LYPHLine Studios ERO TRAVESTITO DA DONNA E SUONAVO IL BASSO PORCA MISERIA🍺🍻👍
The honor of having james brown introduce you is truly humbling.
Best Letterman intro ever!
Mark Smith
1985 was also the best year for The World's Most Dangerous Band. They were really hot that summer.
Nobody tops James Brown ! He was the ultimate all around performer. RIP sir. 🎶💜

Mr. Brown was an excellent vocalist. All of his “runs” were executed perfectly.

Paul's favorite musical guest of all time
“The second hardest working man in show business, soul brother no. 2”
lol

Godfather of Soul, yes. The word funk predated him by a long time, and was only applied to his music later.
7:17 he calls Paul Schaffer the "Godfather of Soul at the Piano", what an honor.
second hardest working man in show business ... soul brother number two ...
the BEST intro by the inimitable James Brown!
he was a born entertainer, the king of funk
--funk-- soul

Absolutely!
He got James playing the organ here and had him playing the piano 3 years earlier on a live performance . He’s definitely one of the best
Even I jammed with Junior Walker. 😄 Great guy, but his career sort of stalled.
Just heard Steve Jordan talk about this performance and man he's right James was lovin' it and going places he hadn't been in years!
no, he was talking about the performance from 1982. not this one ;)
This blows the most out of everything! Superb band - Steve Jordan is at it...
you got that right

🎶 And the name of the place was called Augusta GA ! 🎶
How cool is that-grab someone out the crowd, let them cut the rug with you a little on national TV, and give them the thrill of a lifetime. Gotta love JB.
The best ever !!!
What am I going to the beach for? To get a tan? LOVE JB!!
His ‘82 appearance is far better overall imo, but his Georgia on My Mind performance here is spectacular.
I agree.
Ask The Hardest Working Man In Show Business if he ever goes on vacation, and what do you get?
"The beach?
What for?
To get a tan?"
Geez, haven't seen this since it aired in '85 and I would record every episode with the VCR and re-watch it after the broadcast finished.
The most incredible interview ever recorded starts after 'Georgia'.
Steve Jordan is using Paiste Red Colorsound cymbals!!! That's an 80's landmark right there! Those cymbals were so popular back in those days.
7:58 Letterman impressed me a lot here. He took James' confused ramblings and made it a super memorable funny moment with a single quip.
dang! James was sooooo soulful!!!!! RIP Godfather!!!!!!
Dave asked for "Sex Machine", Paul thought, "fuck that, we're starting with "I'll go crazy" - a theme he used in intermissions for many, many years.
Paul Shaffer RULES.
When television was worth a damn!
... or maybe two.
steve jordan why are your cymbals so high up??? great performance!
Funny opening. Oww!

😂😂😂😂 "The Beach"??? "For what"😂😂😂😂😂
It came from his soul. As little kids he was our idol. You can see where Michael Prince and Janet all pulled from.
Drummer getting loose! Lol so good
Disconnected but strangely connected.

Who is the drummer here?
Steve Jordan 🥁
all i think about is how hard considering back those days having time to share with personal life. awful interview questions:c
The questions weren't too good but Letterman's personality and charisma really saved this interview. Made me respect him a lot more.
Compare JB at 52 to Elvis at 42.
14:50 crowd lost 2 and 4 and went to the 1 and 3 clap ! I’m not going to say anything but I’m sure you know why lol
the band were called "worlds most dangerous band"
14:58 over the old lady's right shoulder, is that......... Jeff Foxworthy.
love how he counted wrong at 14:52
The GODFATHER was't invited back until he got out of jail in 1992
this and few more were invited as guest jb and the band back the bassist and the keyboard man were called the ***band

SO IS STUPIDITY
Good but too bad he didn’t have the Famous Flames or the JB’s. Just saying. Peace. Out.
14:45 this dude is so square, he sits down and claps on the one and three!!!!!
...I saw that... It would take a LOT of practice to do that on accident. That's a gift of ultra-white.
hahahah thank you for pointing this out
Clapping on the 1+3 is stomach churning!
:-(
Well, it's funk and funk is centered around the one, so he isn't off. It looks stupid sitting down though.
Everyone else around him is clapping on the two and four when he does it lol
and at 14;53 the band desperately tries to get the crowd to clap on 2 and 4 but they clap on 1 and 3. what the fuck is wrong with the crowd?
theyre white
15:00 LA ORTU SUL PALCO
...OMGAW ...Several hundred white people clapping off time... geez.
😂
Ok, I'll say it. I think he's high here.
he is probbably drunk....
No need to comment it though, he was a gangster all the way to the end.
Wrong
Rob Wilson no he’s not.mr brown is having fun and a pleasure to watch. He’s really funny too😀
I don’t think so. But at this stage in time does it really matter?

Yes James Brown was a talent but also was an evil dude.

@@kandikane923 He fired his entire band when they asked for a raise.
