- Georgia is at a political crossroads.
There is widespread anger on the streets over a bill that seeks to curb foreign funding of non-governmental organisations.
The Prime Minister says it is necessary to block external influences.
But protesters say the legislation would silence critics of the government, ahead of parliamentary elections in October.
European leaders have also criticised the bill.
Can the crisis undermine Goergia's ambition to join the European Union?
Presenter: Laura Kyle
Guests:
Mariam Lashkhi, member of the Georgian Parliament and supporter of the bill.
Thornike Gordadze. Fellow at Jacques Delors Institute and former minister of European Integration of Georgia.
Khatia Dekanoidze, member of parliament who opposes the bill.

It would be a blessing in disguise if Georgia was not allowed into the EU
How does the Foreign agents law effect Georgia's EU admission?
NGO funding transparency is a no brainer
Sounds like the NGO's have made this issue into an anti-Russian cause
Are the NGO's scared to divulge their funding sources?
We already know most of them are funded by USAID and/or the EU development fund. The West has been doing so-called “soft power” through front organisations in Georgia and the other post-Soviet countries ever since they gained independence.
Im so focused on the girls eyes at 6:00, her eyes go right to left almost like shes doing something like, i dont know, reading something?... Almost as if she were held at gunpoint or something
Bad audio from Georgian rep
The EU is an elitist business club, it has nothing to do with promoting democracy within its member nations, the opposite is true. This law is a standard law that many countries around the world have in place including the USA. It will protect Georgia's democracy and ensure that imperialist nations such as the USA aren't able to interfere in Georgia's domestic politics as they so frequently like to do around the globe. Take a leaf out of our book here in the UK and save your freedoms and autonomy by ensuring this law is passed.
You are right, the EU today is a lot like the old socialist dictatorship.
It is no longer about joint trade and freedom...
It is interesting that in France there are demonstrations for "Frexit" and in Georgia they are trying to join this crazy association...
They don't know that foreign capital will destroy them in a few years...
Why are you desperately trying to control the narrative in the comments section? You've persuaded literally no one with your lecture.
@@jakel8627 If that comment was intended to me then I have to say that it makes little sense. You'd need to elaborate a bit further since this was the only post I have made for this video, therefore, could hardly be described as trying to control the narrative? 🤷♂️
