The American version is perfect for The Snob, but if you want to see how good this movie truly is treat yourself to the original Japanese version, it's worth it for the soundtrack alone.
Its still not a good movie....The majority of Showa era films are not good movies, they're mostly movies that were made for children and it shows in the majority of them with very few exceptions.....And im someone you couldn't pay to watch a butchered, English dubbed version of a Godzilla movie...The Heisei and Millennium era films are far superior to everything in the Showa era except the 54 film

To me the first four in the showa series are fantastic especially this one, is it cheesey yes but it's also the first Godzilla film in color, it's got one of the best brawls of all time and to this day still leads to great debates about the final outcome & that's coming from a guy who also thinks the heisei series is the best
@@joegrizzly1327 I don't think it's a coincidence that those first four films are also the ones with Godzilla as the antagonist. Turning him into the protagonist was where the films veered very much into childish territory. While you do see them removing a lot of the horror elements associated with Godzilla in this film by the time Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster rolled around he was turned a giant buffoon (getting shot in the butt, bickering with Rhodan, etc). Sure, that film and the ones that followed it are fun to watch, but I'd hardly call them good. On the other hand, I do think the first four hold up well enough, with the original being the classic, Raids Again the underrated followup, King Kong vs Godzilla setting the standard for giant monster clashes and Mothra vs Godzilla perfecting it to the point that I still think it's one of the best Godzilla sequels (I also think Terror of the MechaGodzilla was a solid return to at least a semi-serious tone and a cohesive plot, especially compared with how hokey all the ones in between that and Mothra vs Godzilla were).

I really feel the thinking was wrong from the Japanese they should have brought maps tons of maps and exposition. It would have dulled Godzilla to sleep. No one can withstand the exposition from the american newscaster.

I watched "My Mother the Car" when it aired, but the only scene I can remember is the one where she was being used for a "stop on a dime" brakes commercial. Her brake pin (or something) had fallen out, so she crashed during the commercial. IIRC, It was used anyway as an example of even the best needing replacing eventually. (I also watched the animated Beatles cartoon back then, but skipped "Manimal" in the 80s. I did watch the King Kong cartoon, though. Face it, our channel choices were pretty limited when I was a kid.)
I think I will answer why the Prometheus title since it’s not likely general knowledge today, but the Frankenstein original novel title was Frankenstein The Modern Prometheus

I just realized the two missionaries are also the two photographers in Atragon, which is very interesting entry into the Toho verse. It's the movie that Manda makes his appearance in. I'd say "star" but he's barely in it, it's mostly about the Submarine.
I have an 8" x 10" print of the Japanese poster to this movie hanging in the wall of my home theater/video store. 5:25- That, or Lloyd's Out of Context "9-1-1 Lone Star" Clip of the Week. 12:46- And it'll also make an appearance in Kong: Skull Island, where Kong kills it and eats a couple of its tentacles like spaghetti. 14:55- Godzilla is approaching the train lights! The thing that always puzzled me about this film is how did Toho make such a shitty looking Kong suit. They made a very solid yeti/ape-man costume 8 years earlier for Jujin Yuki Otoko (English title: Half Human). The '63 Kong suit isn't half as well made an ape as the '55 Half Human suit. What went so wrong?

There were tons of petitions being circulated to stop the movie from being released until the song was added, and this was a good decade before change.org existed. But instead of paying at most, maybe about six figures to license the song for the film and its advertising, the studio spent $10,000,000 to get Jimmy Paige of Led Zeppelin to come out of retirement to team up with Puff Daddy to create a horrible song and create a music video that cost another million to make which MTV then played nonstop for months. And in between airings of the music video, there were the also near endless Taco Bell commercials which also featured that song, and the studio also paid tens of millions to make.
I watched this review a day or two after Brandon Tenold's review on the same movie, and it's crazy how they almost have the exact same jokes and trivia...
