Came across this so will give my 2P . had numerous problems with Cup 2s previously down to using wrong pressures initially . They have a grip of almost best Semis around but retain nice drivability on the road , hence all supercars use them . AR1s are motorsport spec tyre dedicated for track , so all the focus is performance only . They're loud , sturdy , and super grippy rubber , one of top 3 semis around. So people getting these 2 need to get their preferences right in the beginning . Cup 2s start no less than 2 bar Cold , around 29psi .. people tend to do this mistake treating them like circuit tyre and starting with way too low pressures . This leads to all kinds of stuff , mine even dismantled from the rim . Both great tyres but one has a tad wider application , that's all.
the best video I've ever seen about tyres, i bougth michelin pilot sport 2,3 an 4 and the problem is the same, now wear a Potenza much better the side is stronger
Same here, MPSC2 has just to soft sidewalls, also got a puncture across full length of sidewalls on front tyres. Although grip level is respectful... Looking forward to try AR1s. Tnx and regards!
Great sidewall comparison! I’ve never been a fan of soft sidewalls and was wondering how stiff the AR1’s are. They should be fun, I’ve only heard good things about them. Please, report about your experience!
Agreed. I switched from the AD08R and I am disappointed with the Cup2 stability during hard braking and quick lane changing. The car is all over the road. Not confidence inspiring at all. Might be because the tire is made for super cars with really low profile tires? Mine are 225/40 front and 245/40 rear. Tire had lots of grip and is more comfortable than the AD08R but I doubt I will buy them again.
@@mantazini Running 36psi on the street. I have since then changed my opinion and will buy Cup2 again, however, a lane change on the high way at 200kmh is not a confidence inspiring experience.
@@npharkes cup2 are meant to have like 42-46psi on the street...substantially low pressure is likely causing your issues. The cup2 have such a specific operating temp and pressure guide, not many people get given the info booklet and they treat them like all other tyres. Try more pressure, you'll be very, very surprised
@@hayden401 Dont agree. For normal driving no matter what tire your run the correct pressure is what you read on the B-pillar. My primary problem is that my wheel is too narrow for the tire. 8" is not ideal for a 245 tire. Some more wall stretch would stabilize the tire.
@@npharkes you don't agree with the manufacturer? Or even if you did inflate the tyre to their recommended pressures, you feel it still wouldn't help due to the size of the wheel? It seems every person with something negative to say about the tire shows symptoms of not enough pressure - that's my observation. that and not rotating often enough
AR1`s are pure trackday tyres with excellent dry grip, but generate quite extreme noise levels and will for most users not be considered acceptable for street . Cup 2`s are far more road biased, compromising dry grip, but generate medium noise level which may also be acceptable for most drivers on street.
@Zombie Head Exactly... this isn't a like for like comparison. One is a barely street capable semi slick... one is a fully road usable high performance sports tyre. They cater to very different markets. If you compared a trofeo R or a cup2 R to the AR1 you'd see a much stiffer carcass.
Hi ! Interesting. Do you also notice this difference while driving ? How would you compare these tires ? These are the 2 tires on my top list at the moment ! I believe AR-1 will have more grip but won't last as long as PSC2, correct ? Just ordered AR-1, let's see. On what type or car are you using these tires ?
Ok been on track today at the Nurburgring. Ar1 take longer to get to temp feedback is about same as cut 2 but AR1 has more grip in slower corners about same in high speed corners
I was thinking of going to Dunlop direzza but I agree the ar1s are brilliant of will keep with them plus they last so long. One thing with the ar1 is they spin on the rim

You won’t regret it
Im keen on a set of AR1's......heard nothing but good things about them.

Looks like the michelin is a bigger profile

Agree! Cup 2 is not hard core enough (side wall / tread pattern)

The Michelin Is much quieter and would not kill you driving in a wet track.
Isnt that Michelin a road tyre that can be used on racetracks and that nangkang
A" road legal" racing tyre?
Yeah I'd say they are very different tires
@@CattyScout Cup 2 R would be comparable
All Michelin tyres are that soft
The Cup is no semi and Never intended to be one.
The cup2 has 5mm tread same as other semi slick tyres
Ar1 Nankang the best

Please do some research on durezza before buying them.. read some disturbing things about their sidewall
….until it gets 🌧🌨💦💦
the best are Yoko A052 and Pirelli Trofeo R
