D2 is good, but in D1 loved the feeling of of diving alone into a massive dungeon system, going deeper and deeper and eventually ending up in Hell. Part of me wanted the same in D2 on a grander scale and was kinda disappointed in how much time we spent on a open surface maps.
D2 was great for the MP/online experience/play with others, but otherwise, as a game, such a boring dull empty bland world (completely abandoned the entire "diablo dungeon crawler terror down into hell" feel of the game it was suppose to be, as done so well with diablo 1), and ultimately, it's just about farming for gg rare (yellow) items in chaos sanctuary (depending on the character/class/skill builds you want to use) D2 LoD just further ruined the game for me, and it also made classic such a struggle too (at least with single/offline play, as in mp/online, there's all of the party skills that can allow many different types of builds, and a party/team is able to do multiple types of damage to deal with immunes)
That's how OD&D is played. Campaign 1: Is a dungeon crawl. Campaign 2: Is an overworld multi-year, multi-adventure, with many different dungeons. You don't actually go to hell but to a lair corrupted by Diablo that resembled Hell.
@@redmoonbloodmoon3161 now i know what people mean when they say you are stuck in the nostalgia. almost all of act 1 is a dungeon crawler, then you go to act 2 where the wanderer is trying to learn how to stop diablo and you crawl through more dungeons to find the staff and cube etc, act 3 you are dungeon crawling for a bunch of innards, act 4 is literally hell. i got nothing for act 5, never enjoyed that part of the game myself.
You actually can I’ve done it on all characters the rogue sorcerer and warrior and if you have the expansion you get the monk. Edit: also if he on d1 then he can’t start at lvl 1 in nightmare or hell. That was implemented in hellfire.
The best you can do with new character in Nightmare or Hell, is run around and open chests and try to get a few things then save. The original unmodded version didn't even let you save.

This was SO ahead of it's time! What a giga game! The focus on soundtrack, atmosphere and dialog.. I mean, that probably took up SO much of the game, but god DAMN was it worth it! Gives me chills to this day to hear "FRESH MEAT" No micro transactions, rogue like, random maps, a game for you and only you! LOVE IT! Would love for you to go through Diablo 2 resurrected! BTW if you did not know, your character that you play (the warrior lore wise) Is the guy Marius follows through Diablo 2 (the dark wanderer) who again turns into diablo!
he didn't even get to see the butcher in this run did he?? I only watched the first hour, didn't see. I was just waiting to watch him panic and die but it never happened :( was fun to watch him get fucked by skeleton leoric though hahah. this was such a magical game when it first came out, and still is actually! diablo 2 was ok in comparison, 3 just sucked, 4 I never played. This and the fallout games are where the earliest ones are better.
Imagine how absolutely mind blowing it was to fire up the demo (Diablo Spawn) of this game in November 1996. The sound design, the graphics, everything just so perfect. Me and my neighbor both got it on release and played all day and night on LAN that winter break 😊
I started watching and then was like "dude, explore the whole map, why would you not full explore on first playthrough!" as he proceeded to go to level 2 right away

I’ve been replaying Diablo 1 recently. It’s actually possible to play Hell difficulty with a level 1 sorcerer. If you manage to get the first kill spamming fireballs, you get to level 5 straight away and can invest into mana to do more damage. Any other character, forget about it. You physically can’t hit often or high enough to overcome the monster health regen.
Totally enjoyed the play through. This is an old school dungeon crawl. My friends and I played this through multiple times with different characters through all difficulty levels. You could network the games via a pier to pier connection, first multiplayer game that did this. Diablo in the "hell" difficulty is almost invincible. we found a cpu timing bug in the original game where if you went to pick up an item, and grabbed a potion from your belt you could duplicate the item by changing the potion into it. This allowed us to get enough money to finance some of the very powerful magic items. :-D The music for this game was awesome! I still have it on my playlist for RPG and fantasy music

Probably not very useful now but BIG protip: Dont ever let a Black Death Zombie hit you. Each time they hit you reduces your max hp PERMANENTLY. You cannot recover that missing hp, ever. Its just gone.

Thank you for returning to great memories from my childhood. I played this game when I was, maybe 12 years old? But it was different. Not like in these days. Only few games on my pentium 200mhz, no smartphones, no youtube, no movies, no internet. This was absolutely awesome game. I had spend months playing it...

Love the way you constantly save right before risking death - so you can load that save and be in the same shit as many times as you want (and not be able to get out, with a safe save now overwritten)
It was fun to see the learning curve. Learning how to kite, and bait large groups of mobs around corners and through narrow gaps. That's how you do it. Knowing how to get and keep better equipment would have been helpful, but learning curve.
Regardless of what character I play, I always buy the highest + magic gear and weapons then drop them near the witch's shack. Just equip them, learn a spellbook, then drop them and equip your fighting gear, and that way any player can eventually learn any level spell. It's a slow grind but by end game you have quite the beefy spellcaster.
In the battle against Leoric I have seen many commenting that you have little aquarcy, in D1 you can never hit when an enemy is moving, hits can only be made when the creature is still or is in a straight line
Watching you play Diablo 1? Entertaining. Watching you rage on how you can't find any good bows? Hilarious. Starting a new Bard run afterwards? A blast. Finding 3 different unique bows in the same run? Absolutely priceless😂
The mad lad went to fight diablo with like helmet+body armor around 20 rating and 0 resistances... Multiple times ignored rare gothic mail on the ground and sold a 75% all resistances ring. Insane that he actually made it work. Tank rogue build :D
I'll say this while it might claim to be Original.. This isn't completely unmoded there are many QOL upgrades on this emulator that I can see besides the wide screen. there are way too many drops dropping and the way the durability shows on your stuff is QOL, and I'm pretty sure holding control to see items on the ground is another QOL upgrade
there were no drop indicators in D1, also drops are too rich, and tehre's plety other little QOL things (if I noticed corectly Pipin sells elixirs in this version, which in D1 I don't recall he ever did).

I guess i'm one of the very rare players that played Diablo 1 a lot back in the days but never got into playing any other newer titles, not a single one. I have seen a lot of videos but never liked the direction Blizzard went
D2 was alright, still a different game. The reason why this is such an icon and feels different... Well the answers are in the interview with the original creator. Highly suggest watching that.
The demo of it was the best marketing, the full game had a demo game on the disc that could be installed on multiple computers with network co-op play. Also don't forget to play the expansion pack called Hellfire..

The game randomly gives you like 80% of the possible quests except a couple mandatory that are story related every time. So first time he didn't spawn butcher quest, the second one - he did (talking to the corpse isn't necessary afaik). The third time - he didn't get it again. Which is ngl a crazy rng
Haven't checked comments or finished video, but chat in beginning is wrong. Quests are randomized. Which quest you get in each new world you create is randomized.
This is late coming in, but when you were surprised in cost 100gp to identify items, that can happen to you in Diablo 2 if you don't rescue Cain by the time you finish Act 1. The Rogues manage to save him instead

Sorcerrer from this game ends up being Summoner from Diablo II The Arcane Sanctuary, Rogue end up as Blood Raven from Act I of Diablo II. Yop....played this thing 25 years ago for the first time, now finding out there is a lot more story to it:-)
I remember playing the PS1 version with my brother back in the late 90's. We tried HELL once. Never again. as you start getting to higher character levels, and you start getting more funds saved up, you startbgetting access to various spell books, and other beneficial portions. We built a couple different loot bag characters. When we got a specific book or potion we wanted to save, we would save our character with the item in bag, reload the game as 2-player and load a Bot. Drop the item on thr ground for Bot to pick up, then Save Character. No GameShark, or Game Genie, just broke the game with in-game options and beefed up characters over and over. I think we only ever actually played through and "beat" the game once. We just loved going into the dungeon and beating up monsters. The random map generator kept the gameplay fairly fresh and interesting, for over-caffinated 14-16 year olds anyway.

About 20 years ago someone gave me the Classic Diablo2. I believe he was more into FinalFantasy. And I always thought that was my first encounter with Diablo. So after buying and playing D2R just recently I wanted to look into some more lore and stumbled upon this video and realised I have played the first Diablo!! 😱 I saw pictures before, but my brain never made the connection. But when I saw you playing and walking around and discorvering those spellbooks, the magic scrolls, the witch (Adria) in the corner and the dumping of the inventory around the fountain it all dawned on me, Like OMG I actually do remember this! Totally enjoyed this, it sparked some memories LOL😅😂

Aidan being a prince is a retcon in a way. I mean, nobody in Diablo 1 recognised him as the prince and he refer to Albrecht not as "my brother" but "Prince Albrecht".
the guys working on this loved rogue and wanted to make their own version. So yes, this is as rogue like as you can get ^^ Something modern aRPGs have forgotten. originally it was supposed to be turn based, but they went so deep in how attack speed and hit recovery etc worked that (after a lot of pressure from their publisher or ceo I forget) David spent a weekend and got it running real-time.

Did he skip the Butcher??? I didn't see the fight and he was one of my favorite bosses of all time. Just so gnarly and gross and tough at such a low level.
The randomness of this game made it feel different each time. I can't tell you how many times i restarted trying to get both the Butcher and Leoric on my warrior runs. The last one I ever ran had the most epic of dumb warriors. Ended up with a 4 in magic due to shrines and other effects. But what he hit, he hurt. I'll need to find my old copy and that full screen mod, and soon.
This.....THIS was the game that brought my sister over to the gaming side! Yes she played a few games on my Nintendo, but it was only for a few minutes, and only sporadically. But, when my gaming PC took a $#!T on me, I bought Diablo 1 for the PS1....cuz I wanted my dungeon diving fix dammit....lol. One day, I'm getting home from working at Circuit City, and sitting cross-legged in front of my TV, is my sister, with a Mountain Dew and a bag of Doritos....and she is playing this game!! At first I was like...WTF!! But as I watched her playing the Rogue, kiting the mobs and actually doing well, I just ended up walking past her and sitting on my bed. I actually startled the everloving hell out of her because she was SO FOCUSED on the game. She started apologizing and I stopped her, and just asked..."Two things, you like the game huh? What do you want to know!" She soaked it up and I kid you not played it all the way through!!
The quests have multiple paths to follow. So sometimes the Fountain near cain is nasty and needs purification. Sometimes that fool tells of Lazarus and sets up the butcher. but each start shuffles. So save often and be vigilant.
My ADHD got attacked soooo many times watching this gameplay. but it was worth the laughs hahaha great game and now I feel like playing it again. I discovered some friends never played so maybe I will multiplayer with them. Thanks for the video man! best of all to you o/
I cannot conceive playing anything other than a magic oriented build in this game. Once you get the book of mana shield, you are basically immortal. This game is perfect. Played it back in the 90s and I still love it.

@ALL Running was an option in the Hellfire expansion. He was not playing the Hellfire expansion. @GuzuVODS You should play the Hellfire expansion: a chance to see the other quests like the Butcher, 12 new levels, new class (the Monk).

Yes, I knew the Butcher wasn't in the expansion. But he needs to replay the game for a chance at the Butcher. If you are going to replay it, why not do it with the expansion.

How? It’s possible on the sorcerer but the other classes don’t deal damage fast enough to overcome the health regen monsters get.

This and the fallout games are where the earliest ones are better.
Imagine how absolutely mind blowing it was to fire up the demo (Diablo Spawn) of this game in November 1996. The sound design, the graphics, everything just so perfect. Me and my neighbor both got it on release and played all day and night on LAN that winter break 😊

I’ve been replaying Diablo 1 recently. It’s actually possible to play Hell difficulty with a level 1 sorcerer. If you manage to get the first kill spamming fireballs, you get to level 5 straight away and can invest into mana to do more damage.
Any other character, forget about it. You physically can’t hit often or high enough to overcome the monster health regen.
Totally enjoyed the play through. This is an old school dungeon crawl. My friends and I played this through multiple times with different characters through all difficulty levels. You could network the games via a pier to pier connection, first multiplayer game that did this. Diablo in the "hell" difficulty is almost invincible.
we found a cpu timing bug in the original game where if you went to pick up an item, and grabbed a potion from your belt you could duplicate the item by changing the potion into it. This allowed us to get enough money to finance some of the very powerful magic items. :-D
The music for this game was awesome! I still have it on my playlist for RPG and fantasy music

Thank you for returning to great memories from my childhood. I played this game when I was, maybe 12 years old? But it was different. Not like in these days. Only few games on my pentium 200mhz, no smartphones, no youtube, no movies, no internet. This was absolutely awesome game. I had spend months playing it...

It was fun to see the learning curve. Learning how to kite, and bait large groups of mobs around corners and through narrow gaps. That's how you do it. Knowing how to get and keep better equipment would have been helpful, but learning curve.
Regardless of what character I play, I always buy the highest + magic gear and weapons then drop them near the witch's shack. Just equip them, learn a spellbook, then drop them and equip your fighting gear, and that way any player can eventually learn any level spell. It's a slow grind but by end game you have quite the beefy spellcaster.

Totally agree. I played Tyranny recently and loved the game, but it creates new autosaves a lot, even when you enter and exit houses in cities.

The mad lad went to fight diablo with like helmet+body armor around 20 rating and 0 resistances... Multiple times ignored rare gothic mail on the ground and sold a 75% all resistances ring. Insane that he actually made it work. Tank rogue build :D
I'll say this while it might claim to be Original.. This isn't completely unmoded there are many QOL upgrades on this emulator that I can see besides the wide screen. there are way too many drops dropping and the way the durability shows on your stuff is QOL, and I'm pretty sure holding control to see items on the ground is another QOL upgrade

I'm pretty sure all that was in the original game, except screen size. I played it a lot back than, but never in recent times or in an emulator.
there were no drop indicators in D1, also drops are too rich, and tehre's plety other little QOL things (if I noticed corectly Pipin sells elixirs in this version, which in D1 I don't recall he ever did).

D2 was alright, still a different game. The reason why this is such an icon and feels different... Well the answers are in the interview with the original creator. Highly suggest watching that.
The demo of it was the best marketing, the full game had a demo game on the disc that could be installed on multiple computers with network co-op play.
Also don't forget to play the expansion pack called Hellfire..

The game randomly gives you like 80% of the possible quests except a couple mandatory that are story related every time. So first time he didn't spawn butcher quest, the second one - he did (talking to the corpse isn't necessary afaik). The third time - he didn't get it again. Which is ngl a crazy rng

This is late coming in, but when you were surprised in cost 100gp to identify items, that can happen to you in Diablo 2 if you don't rescue Cain by the time you finish Act 1. The Rogues manage to save him instead

Sorcerrer from this game ends up being Summoner from Diablo II The Arcane Sanctuary, Rogue end up as Blood Raven from Act I of Diablo II. Yop....played this thing 25 years ago for the first time, now finding out there is a lot more story to it:-)

I remember playing the PS1 version with my brother back in the late 90's. We tried HELL once. Never again.
as you start getting to higher character levels, and you start getting more funds saved up, you startbgetting access to various spell books, and other beneficial portions. We built a couple different loot bag characters. When we got a specific book or potion we wanted to save, we would save our character with the item in bag, reload the game as 2-player and load a Bot. Drop the item on thr ground for Bot to pick up, then Save Character. No GameShark, or Game Genie, just broke the game with in-game options and beefed up characters over and over. I think we only ever actually played through and "beat" the game once. We just loved going into the dungeon and beating up monsters. The random map generator kept the gameplay fairly fresh and interesting, for over-caffinated 14-16 year olds anyway.
I can't believe we didn't get to see the high tier armor put on. It's soooo classy, what a loss.

difference: +14 avg damage per hit for the merciless long war bow (ignoring how much heavens/perfection/swiftness suffixes adds to the damage per hit as well and also the more likely stun effect)
+14 avg damage per hit vs more mana (due to being able to use dragon prefix on jewelry instead of obsidian, due to getting the resistance from the Emerald Long War Bow)
ya, +14 avg damage per hit over time is very huge, but it likely won't cause each individual monster (oblivion lords and arch magistrates on hell/hell) to take any significantly less hits to kill them, (and presumably you'll still be stun-locking them too without the extra +14 avg damage per hit), so, there's a really good argument for using emerald prefix instead of the merciless prefix
I presume an end game rogue will likely do plenty of damage and stun-locking, without needing the 21 avg damage per hit from using the merciless prefix, so end game wise, it's better to use emerald prefix, allowing you to switch from obsidian prefix to dragon prefix on one of your jewels (amulet/rings), for more mana, which enables more "mini mage" play by your rogue, which is a better usage of your rogue as an end game rogue, assuming you don't need the extra damage to kill and stun-lock

About 20 years ago someone gave me the Classic Diablo2. I believe he was more into FinalFantasy. And I always thought that was my first encounter with Diablo. So after buying and playing D2R just recently I wanted to look into some more lore and stumbled upon this video and realised I have played the first Diablo!! 😱 I saw pictures before, but my brain never made the connection. But when I saw you playing and walking around and discorvering those spellbooks, the magic scrolls, the witch (Adria) in the corner and the dumping of the inventory around the fountain it all dawned on me, Like OMG I actually do remember this! Totally enjoyed this, it sparked some memories LOL😅😂

Yeah the original diablo captured the horror vibe really well. Such a good combination of morbidly dark aestethics and genuine threat from the enemies keeping you on your toes. originally it was supposed to be turn based, but they went so deep in how attack speed and hit recovery etc worked that (after a lot of pressure from their publisher or ceo I forget) David spent a weekend and got it running real-time.

Either butcher or skeleton king you dont get both. But if you don't get the wounded guy on cathedral entrance wont get it.

In DevolutionX settings, you can turn on all quests. You can turn it on in both in single and multi players mode.

Thank you for the weapons-grade nostalgia. I played this game so much in my teens. It's still fun.
The randomness of this game made it feel different each time. I can't tell you how many times i restarted trying to get both the Butcher and Leoric on my warrior runs. The last one I ever ran had the most epic of dumb warriors. Ended up with a 4 in magic due to shrines and other effects. But what he hit, he hurt. I'll need to find my old copy and that full screen mod, and soon.
This.....THIS was the game that brought my sister over to the gaming side! Yes she played a few games on my Nintendo, but it was only for a few minutes, and only sporadically. But, when my gaming PC took a $#!T on me, I bought Diablo 1 for the PS1....cuz I wanted my dungeon diving fix dammit....lol. One day, I'm getting home from working at Circuit City, and sitting cross-legged in front of my TV, is my sister, with a Mountain Dew and a bag of Doritos....and she is playing this game!! At first I was like...WTF!! But as I watched her playing the Rogue, kiting the mobs and actually doing well, I just ended up walking past her and sitting on my bed. I actually startled the everloving hell out of her because she was SO FOCUSED on the game. She started apologizing and I stopped her, and just asked..."Two things, you like the game huh? What do you want to know!" She soaked it up and I kid you not played it all the way through!!
Fun fact - all three of these characters are featured in Diablo 2.
With a caveat.
The quests have multiple paths to follow.
So sometimes the Fountain near cain is nasty and needs purification. Sometimes that fool tells of Lazarus and sets up the butcher.
but each start shuffles.
So save often and be vigilant.
which MOD is he playing, because show items on ground was not in Original D1 as far as i know.
My ADHD got attacked soooo many times watching this gameplay. but it was worth the laughs hahaha great game and now I feel like playing it again. I discovered some friends never played so maybe I will multiplayer with them. Thanks for the video man! best of all to you o/
I cannot conceive playing anything other than a magic oriented build in this game. Once you get the book of mana shield, you are basically immortal. This game is perfect. Played it back in the 90s and I still love it.

watched the whole 6 hours. also played this game i a lot when i was in elementary school. I shitted myself when i first encountered the butcher. i alt f4ed the hell out of it and havent picked up the game for days after that lol.

Running was an option in the Hellfire expansion. He was not playing the Hellfire expansion.

You should play the Hellfire expansion: a chance to see the other quests like the Butcher, 12 new levels, new class (the Monk).
The Butcher wasn't in the expansion. It's one of the original quests. But, yes he needs to give it a go!

I was saying that in a second run he would have "a chance" to see the Butcher. Only the original quests are randomized. None of the Expansion quests are randomized.

But he needs to replay the game for a chance at the Butcher. If you are going to replay it, why not do it with the expansion.
