Great vid thanks guys! To get to Arnhem in time, the 82nd must take the Nijmegen bridge before the morning of the 20th. Due to their deployment and the German deployment, this is almost impossible.
Love this game. Need to play it again. Played solo. Probably made errs. Took Eindhoven. Bloody. 101st...great die rolls. Lucky lucky. 30 Corps. Hate those traffic markers. Took and lost Njemejin bridge and 1/2 the city. Brits took railroad bridge near Arnhem. Polish Paras wiped out. Pulled Brits across RR bridge-adios Arnhem 60%+ lost. 82nd. Kept there LZ's open, kept bridges open. VG die rolls. 30 Corps close...but 82nd had to fort up in the woods/LZ. Called it. British 1st n now the 82nd cut off. OOS. 101st chopped to heck. 30 Corps late. blown bridges n traffic. Maybe...maybe my favorite game...sorry Panzer Blitz. Love your guys reviews n game play. There are several games in my collection because of your great vids. Thank you.
love you guys. great videos. Cripes what happened here! The Allies have lost this on the first day. The set-up means the Allies are always able to get at least one unit to Arnhem Bridge and sometimes more. But here the SS are well ensconced in Arnhem already , meaning you have no chance to win. Did you misunderstand the movement rules or not realise the objective was the bridge?
Low quality units don't have negative shift attacking (I don't think). You mentioned this a few times re 406th and others being 'weak in attack'. Shift only applies to attacking unit (if attacking low quality) and to determined defence roll.
Thanks for posting this. I'm curious -- when you guys are playing against each other, do you keep to yourself if the other person makes bad strategy decision or do you both discuss your plans and see if the other agrees if its a good idea?
Yes an no. If it's a new game, and we're learning it together, then typically there is a level of strategic discussion, where we'll point out something is bad because of a rule the other forgot, or we'll hash out the consequences of a certain move within the game space. But once we're both comfortable it's rare we discuss strategy. As the French Emperor once said "Never interrupt your enemy when they are making a mistake"
As the Allies you need to get a little lucky and have really good rolls early, since as you found, as the game goes on the airborne without supply lose so much of their attack power and can do little except defend once their supply heads run out. If 30 Corp and the other land units don't make good progress early and the traffic congestion occurs like you showed, by mid game it's almost a lost cause and you are reminded that they went "A Bridge to Far." Great way to show off the game, by the way is France 40 part of this system as well?
Only when the paras first land, there's a good chance they become "scattered" where they have reduced movement and combat capabilities, but that's only for one turn as they regroup. The game is at such a large scale it's less obvious in the rules. The various airborne divisions are so isolated though you do feel that way in an overall sense.
Thanks Grant & Alexander, am really tempted to get this. Would appreciate your thoughts on whether the designer has decided that it's a lost cause for the Allies from the start and made it very unlikely for the Allies to win. I appreciate that you've only had one play-through though!
We messed up a special rule for the first turn only that would have made Arnhem much more competitive. The game isn't one sided, but like any game where there's dice involved there's some luck involved. The axis were fortunate with the traffic and weather rolls that significantly hindered the Allied advance and bridge reinforcement.
Grant u should have conceded first turn , then restart with a deeper understanding of the scenario, understandably , thanks 4 the demo it's almost a playthrough , which says about allot becoz I wish u would do so more of , again later Thanks 🫥😶🌫️👍
Grant u gotta try Hells Highway by Victory Games , honest, the market Garden campaign is unique because in this day n age of communication , spy satalites an op like this will never happen again , also Avalon Hills Storm over Arnhem still talks loud m8 thank me later pal but i wouldn't be surprised if Alex owns a copy!¡!! , 🫥😶🌫️👍

How is this compared to Hell's Highway (if you've played HH)?

does the game do any simulation of the communication/radio problems they had historically?

Roger that - appreciate the reply!
Do you play Band of Brothers in the background during the game?
We spent the whole time quoting A Bridge Too Far!
What an amazing cast! Such an underappreciated movie. Can both of you do a better Polish accent than Gene Hackman?
The bar is pretty low in this instance..
It is pronounce ny-me-gin comrade
Thought the Poles landed south of the river!!!!,
