Drop the Dead Donkey is not on ITVX because it's a Channel 4 show so it's on their streaming service but still means it's also freely available to watch via streaming.
As for the channel, it's interesting and hopefully they can expand their programming down the line. I don't want to see it fail off the bat but in the era of streaming and on demand, it's unfortunately an outdated concept but there's definitely an appeal there for specific audiences.
Drop The Dead Donkey, was comissioned by Channel 4 in 1990. Six Seroes made up to 1998 and iin its original broadcast run would be shown by both Channel 4 and S4C and appears it on the Channel 4 Streaming Service.
its making a comeback as a stageshow
@@terrystanton3848 I went to see it in Bath at the End of March, and they had with the exception of Daivd Swidt the Series 3-6 casr plus Julia Hills.
the names have changed, but the content is still the same! 🙂
The channel is sort of like the early days of UK Gold.
More like Bravo.
UK Gold was there for the BBC and Thames to make use of their archives. The BBC had a deal with BSB's Galaxy channel but Galaxy closed. The ITV franchises had plan Bs incase they lose their franchise and for Thames partnering with the BBC for UK Gold was their plan B.
I totally agree with your comments. I wish the new channel all the best for bringing classic TV shows to a wider audience. As a 70 year old I’ve probably seen a lot of the stuff. Also I don’t watch linear television anymore, so your comment about not having it on catch up is a very important one. I want to watch what I want to watch, when I want to watch it now, because that’s what you can do. And by the way The Prisoner is really worth looking at, groundbreaking, crazy, brilliant, eccentric, unique, ‘be seeing you!’
So a very niche viewer base;
1. They still subscribe to Sky.
2. They don't know how to use ITVX etc (my mother is 75 and does just fine)
3. They still want to watch to a set schedule.
4. They don't mind sitting through a ton of ads for reclining chairs, walk in baths etc (cos of course they'll be targeted at the expected demographic)
5. Haven't already got the DVDs of the old shows.
Let's revisit May 2025 and see where this channel is then. Not on other platforms, and unlikely to be on Sky anymore is my bet. But having said that good luck to them with that business plan.
Its a free to air on SKY but yes you still need a sky satellite dish and box
It's will be on Freeview in a month or two as well. While you'll just be moaning on UA-cam!
In the early part in the 2ks, American Cable TV had a brief fling with vintage TV shows on channels devoted to them (Trio, Nostalgia Channel, GoodLife TV, etc.) but have all but disappeared due to low viewership & competition from DVDs.
Now you'd be lucky to find any old TV shows on streaming video online.
"Now you'd be lucky to find any old TV shows on streaming video online."
Dailymotion is your friend.
I watch this channel regularly on my Sharp AQUOS 50" Smart TV with built in free to air 4K capable satellite tuner and Freeview HD and I like it.
Thats TV are doing fairly well with airing classic archive shows, it is nice to see it. Talking Pictures TV do focus on films, but also air classic TV too and are the best nostalgia channel around.
Launching a linear broadcast channel in 2024 is a big gamble. Especially beacuse a lot of people who'd view these shows probably have them on DVD
Fair point otoh dvds that are at least 15- 20 years old. If you didn't upgrade to blu ray ( I didn't ) this is a pretty good channel, potentially.
@@mortdewerewolfe691 Oh yeah! My grandad has most of the old shows he likes on DVD or he can get them on Netflix and Prime, which he uses more than broadcast tv
@@mortdewerewolfe691exactly. Though the two people I can think of who'd be interested in this channel are my grandparents and they have a bunch of old shows on dvd and blu-ray. Hell, they watch those and netflix more than broadcast tv
This feels like the kind of channel where my parents would say "it's about bloody time", then not actually watch it. But be outraged if it were shut down and see it as a return to the good old days. But only in theory.
I love it, "Watching" is excellent, brings back many happy memories, it's early days for the channel and I wish it every success.
I'm in Ireland and I tuned it onto my Freesat box last week. The channel name is displayed as 50327 but that will probably change now the channel is officially launched. It seems ok.
Drop The Dead Donkey is already available on the Channel 4 app
Which you'd expect as the show was originally broadcast on Channel 4.
Bring back UK Gold and Goldie the Retriever!!
Seriously, there's more and more 'back catalogue' items on ITVx, BBCiPlayer, 4oD etc etc that I too question the wisdom of launching in such a niche way.
I'm 63 and my contemporaries have stopped watching 'broadcast' TV a long time ago - because we can access in a non-linear way to suit our own schedules.
We're also the demographic that has been able to afford physical media collections on disc and more than happy to create our own 'TV Schedule' from those.
Currently watching Voyager on disc, My name is Earl & NYPD Blue on Disney+ and Sherlock from Granada on ITV-X. Plus new new Who & Discovery/Strange New Worlds on streaming.
shows like The Persuaders and The Prisoner are already available for streaming on ITVx in HD so Rewind’s “USP” is niche (scheduled) upon niche (Sky) upon niche (older viewers) upon niche (stuff not already streaming)! Good luck with that guys…
That's TV and Talking Pictures TV are already on Freeview showing similar content so it's odd that this channel is only available on Sky. A high percentage of these shows are either on ITV-X or the Channel 4 app, so I don't think I'm missing out by not having Sky to watch this channel.
What's even more annoying is that the channel isn't available on Sky in Ireland for some reason. If I were to get it, I'd have to manually tune it and then there's the lack of recording stuff or pausing them, even viewing a schedule. Which feels really retro if you ask me...
Excellent video Adam!
If Rewind TV can somehow stand out from it’s competition like Talking Pictures TV whilst showing old 6 to 3 decade old shows, it could have a bright future, though considering the current state of Traditional Television, it might have a rocky start.
I like looking ahead on the Sky TV guide and having a Sky Q box makes us something I look forward to recording.
Great work on pop marster
I found it by accident before it was a named channel. I love Department S which fills the hour between Channel 4 News and Benidorm which is on That's TV. Department S is worth watching for the continuity errors, if nothing else.
I rather like retro channels.I'm 61,and they remind just how much better TV was back then!I KNOW I'm biased!
Why not more platforms?
Because £££. They've gone for the regulated open access route to sky's satellite platform, probably picking up unused satellite capacity at a bargain rate.
Streaming itself would be straightforward, but getting access to platforms other than web would be extra cost to create TV apps and pay Sky, Samsung, Amazon, Roku etc
If you have a freesat box, you can manually add it.
Astra 2G - 28.2 E
11082 MHz, Horizontal, 22000
Well then, if true, that's awesome. I have to say "if true" because I don't have a Freesat box sadly
Adam you've got to see 'The Prisoner'. It's amazing!
We need a channel pre UK gold
rewind TV launched here up in Scotland on the 19th on channel 272
The series link function does not work.. I messaged them and was told”they are working on it”
You would have thought this would have been sorted in test transmission.
The ITV programmes would have been digitally restored. ITV Studios provide digital restoration services for archives and they have restored and upscaled programmes to 4K.
Interesting. Paul Nicholas's son Oscar as co-founder.
Sky satellite is a curious platform to exclusively launch on, in 2024. The service is being slowly wound down, I'm guessing that Rewind TV got the slot very cheap. My prediction is that the channel will just be a drop in a vast ocean. Most people won't even know it exists. And with a schedule of shows which can mostly be found on big brand streaming services, it won't have any pulling power to it. It's a shame, because I do support the ethos of their offering. But I don't see a bright long term future for it.
I don't really watch non-live programmes live, but I do record a lot of them.
Dead on arrival is because it’s a TV channel!
My thoughts exactly
An oldies channel launching in 2024 that's only available on an old, outdated platform. It's appropriate, but will limit its reach.
It's a big gamble. We'll just have to see if it pays off
I hope rewind tv hopefully does classic doctor who and I'd love a classic tv channel for kids programs as I'm into classic tv shows so I'm looking forward for Rewind Tv,
Classic Doctor Who is available on BBC iPlayer
I would think its just on sky because of its target audience, if its for the older person, sky sat is prob is the most likely system they have
I would like to see a classic cartoon channel.
Used to be one on American Satellite TV called Boomerang.
MeTV Toons is getting an app/FAST channel and a OTA channel here in the States sometime in June so mayble y'all will get it at some point. It's planned to have damn near everything and things that haven't been seen in nearly 50 years too.
I agree, even though Boomerang used to do this, it would be nice to have the option to watch.
Im 48. Guessing that i am on the edge of the demographic they are aiming for? I switched on by total accident on the 23rd May to see The Charmer which I used to watch with my mum; there was a breakdown going into part 3 with the VT clock and "The Charmer part 3" spoken by someone over the clock, then, the black screen of death for a short while. I noticed that the live announcer sound levels were all over the place too. Teething problems.
It is a brilliant channel and since then i've watched a few programmes on Rewind. Shame there is no on demand service though. Spoke to my parents (now 81 and Freeview viewers) and they are interested; they'd definitely like it to come to Freeview. Probably my mum wants to gawp at Nigel Havers again😂😂😂.
I think it would be good but they should have invested with putting the channel on sky streaming thing too because they would have gained more of the younger generation to watch.
I wish channel 5 had a classics TV channel. I'd love to watch older episodes of soap drama Family Affairs for example.
Would they have enough rights to show retro programming to fill an entire channel Monday to Sunday ?.
Channel 5 aren't exactly known for producing older drama shows and even the stuff they did try in their early days didn't last long before they moved over to more reality based shows and over sensationalised expose type shows and relying on US crime shows and other such stuff on their other channels.
And nice vid adam hopefully do more and ident reviews
Is Boon on this channel as itvx have mysteriously removed it ?
Hopefully, Rewind TV will be available on Freeview soon.
We're making a comments about a gradiented logo for all ITV channels on Monday.
so this is why the Prisoner disappeared from the Legend channel
I am not sure how it works in the UK but in my part of the US I was all three Directv, Available Streaming services and Complete Series DVDs to watch shows from across the globe
We have a Rewind TV in the US and itself free-to-air.
Gutted it's on VM yet or at a push, Freeview. I'm mid-50s and I would watch this a lot as I do with TPTV and That's TV for the classic shows.
I think they have launched on Sky as (correct me if I'm wrong) as they get a cut of the subs from Sky (even if FTA) whereas Virgin you have to pay to be on.
We need channels like this as Britbox, now ITVX) is and has been a massive disappointment in terms of classic series. UK Gold when it started was brilliant and then went downhill.
I don't see why it shouldn't survive, I see channels like TPTV probably caters for maybe 40 to 80, Rewind look like they are probably aiming for 40 to 60.
Will you do a video on outnumbered returning?
Why does everything goes to SKY first or stays there? 😭
Not everything
a lot of the time now things go straight to a streaming platform & not to T.V at all.
Sky have deals with
N.B.C , C.B.S & H.B.O but they all run out in early
2025.
A lot of what is on
sky is there own productions now so it's easy for them to broadcast.
At the moment they have they other deals to padd out there content but as I say in 2025 they all come to an end & Sky will be faced with a situation to solve.
Next year H.B.O Max is lunching in the U.K early next year at some point.
But as it stands in terms of channels Sky makes the most revenue so they can afford to broadcast
expensive carrages a group of channels that come under one umbrella and are sold as a package is could a carrage so basically it's because
Sky has the most turn over but they are finding it harder & harder with every passing year to generate the same revenue hence the lunch
Of Sky Sports + at the start of August they need to keep thst revenue flowing.
I think in time
I.T.V X might grow & perhaps beable to rival
Sky but not at the moment.
Everyone else is cutting back even the likes of
Disney.
It's Noel Edmonds!
You know i wish a channel would do if possible a tv channel was launched with nostalgia US tv shows from the atchives i think that might be a success. What do you think?
It's coming on Freeview in June or July.
This September 18th
It's a bit odd launching a new channel that is on a service that is no longer being offered even by Sky themselves. Even when Sky is renewing existing customers contracts they are trying to push customers towards either of their streaming options.
Have you ever talked abt the show lu and the bally bunch???
I seen you on pop master tv tonight on more 4 you are very good 😀😀😀
11:13 Is the channel HD? I'd guess not.
Isn't this basically a more subpar version of TalkingPictures?
I don't have sky so have had to add it to my Freesat box by adding frequency etc
I would love to watch this Channel also it would be Fantastic on Freeview.
Rewind TV to me seems to be a way for a business to milk classic archive TV, and do it as cheap as possible. Launch on Sky, the largest TV provider. Provide no streaming, no proper website and not launch on other platforms. They don't care about the viewer, they just want the cash. A very selfish channel. It is dead on arrival. It will be gone by the end of the year I guess.
It's not on Sky in Ireland either for some reason
@@nionbob07I'm sure you can add it as an extra channel on your box, it's not encrypted
@@HughTVDX i'll need the frequency first
@@nionbob0711.08225GHz H 22MS/s 5/6 QPSK DVB-S PID 2338/2339
Never heard of the channel. Just finished watching your video I agree with your views I can't see this channel lasting. I had a look at their website its rubbish there's nothing there. I think the way they've launched the channel without fanfare with a barely functional website and only available on one platform is not a good sign. The channel launch IMHO has been done in a haphazard way and it seems to me there's no plans for the future a channel most viewers would scroll past without giving it a chance or a second thought.
Adan do you know about little be bad news little be is closing down forever on 31th of May if you could please record the final closedown ok I am doing it as well😊
So it's an excuse for more repeats but saying that TV today is utter stiht
So far I'm really liking the line up - loving BUST which i've never seen and the documentaies - I find most 2024 programmes on BBC / ITV and netflix awful and not of interest - but I like the programming on Rewind.
Tv
Why launch on Sky and ignore every other platform? They are not Sky Atlantic. They are a cheap channel, filled with cheap archive material. Why do they think they are so special? Freesat and Freeview should have been there at the launch, two platforms where the older audiences use, more than Sky
"Schedule" pronounced "skedule"?
Z pronounced "zee"?
What's going on here?
The "Schedule" thing is accental,I'm pretty sure it is at least and Z pronounced as "Zee" is a generational thing. I'm in my twenties and that's how I was taught to pronounce it
Both are Americanisms.
Honestly, think it is pointless and doomed.
It's not on Freeview, Fast TV and Freely so the channel has not really entered the mind
I can pick up the channel on free to air satellite on problem some great shows
Oh no, not only are the idents probably AI-generated - that showreel you're displaying at the start looks like they've run a lot of the footage through AI upscalers (or as I call them, wax model reproductions...)
Ugh. This is so clearly thrown together on the cheap, presumably because they figured they couldn't make any actual money off this if they paid real artists for real idents and showed high quality transfers of the material. Just stick the cheapest archive copy through an upscaler and call it a good'yun. Damn.
Popmaster TV 😀👍
Nope it will not down the drain im sorry dont be so angry or protective but this is my opnion ok but dont judge me
👍🏻
In a word NO

Will the shows be cut to get the "WOKE" brigade to watch
Funny cause "the woke brigade" (cringe af term by the way) don't even watch broadcast tv! Nobody under 40 could give a fuck about it
Interesting how you try to talk with authority about programmes you seem to know very little about
Zed time
I d watch it because it’s got the shows that the snow flakes will have a melt down over in other words real tv shows
Which shows would they be, then? I can't see any shows in their schedule that are known for racist, sexist or homophobic content.

Sorry but bombarding me asking to join the channel, support the patron ect. And the clickbaity video titles and thumbnails is exactly the reason I stopped watching your channel.
And yet... here you are 🤔😂 and bombarding? Its literally 5 seconds at the top of the video like 😂 sorry if the channel is not to your tastes anymore bud! All the best
That's your reason? He doesn't even beg it that much. His condescending, smug, belittling response to you is why I stopped. Not to mention his inability to be politicaly impartial.
🥱🥱🥱 and yet here you are too 😂
@AdamMartyn So what are you suggesting? That people don't ever watch things even though they dislike them and their flaws? Someone who dislikes the neighbour's loud exhaust may still look up as he drives by.
Silly logic you have. I've never seen you rebute someone's argument effectively. You just resort to sarcasm, correcting their typos etc. I don't think there's much going on intellectually with you. The unnecessary big words you use in your videos don't roll off your tongue as you'd expect them to. Hence why you even respond to negative comments in the first place. Insecure. That's fine, but if you lash out as you do, then you'll have to expect it back.
You just give me a good laugh tbh 😂😂
