Understanding history is important not just to aid critical analysis of the present but also as a personal enrichment exercise. That said, it is huge - it's literally the entirety of human existence up until now. It is impossible to not selectively teach/learn it and somebody must do the selecting. I adore the study of history and wish more people felt the same, but realistically I don't think our problems are down to the selective teaching of history in modern public education. Modern syllabuses, particularly in the UK, make a good, though imperfect, attempt to cover most important material.
Biases cause the selectivity. One cannot be unbiased in the retelling of history, but you can however determine the biases and whom they benefit the most.

You are exactly correct. We need to build together a better society that can replace capitalism. @@coolioso808 That's called Socialism my friend, that's why the ultra rich demonize it every day and why they refused to trade with socialist nations, because they're afraid that the people will realize just how sustainable and beneficial it is. As Socialism believes that the power should be with the people, for the benefit of people, it becomes easier for public businesses to exist, which increases the amount of competition in the economy, which means lower prices as those businesses price to compete with corporations, forcing corporations to lower their prices. Less competition means maximized price gouging.

"I want to live in a regular country" - other countries don't want to be just a regular country, they want supremacy and to dominate over others and will conquer and slaughter by the millions to achieve that, and they might do that to you. And what if there are no powerful countries to defend you because almost every country became a regular country? "Without a lot of terribly wealthy people to drive prices up and cause traffic jams" - Actually prices aren't only affected by rich people. It's more to do with supply and demand which can be affected by natural disasters, recession, and a country wanting supremacy and conquering everything. Also, by taking away the ability to generate wealth, aren't you taking away their right to happiness? As for the traffic jams, poor people own cars too, middle class own cars too. So, I don't think rich people alone are responsible for traffic jams. "I will ignore your annoying habits and you will ignore mine" - some people simply won't ignore you.
You’re tricking yourself and letting it happen if you think rich people are the cause of traffic jams. Everything in your head is and will be some one else’s fault. It wouldn’t matter if you got your utopia

why the fall of US along with the fall of white population?
Nobody should be shocked by this. A civilisation never lasts forever. American decline was always going to happen, we just happen to be the ones that are watching the beginning of the fall.
We passed the point where a civilization can be destroyed by building nuclear weapons. Any nation capable of ending ALL of humanity won't exactly fade. Look at Russia for example, their economy and standard of living is awful, but they will ALWAYS be a scary world power. Because they can end it all for everyone with the push of a button. America can too.
I think it’s not just America. It’s also Europe and in generel the entire industrialized world. The reason: Those countries (so countries like China, USA, Russia, Japan, UK, Germany, France and even India) have all declining birthrates. In just a few years the retirement system in those places will not work anymore or generally speaking - those societies will not be able anymore to finance themselves since there are to many old - and to few young ppl. This drags down a lot of countries - a lot of states - as we know them. What happens if a society is reaching peak-population no one really knows. Anyways there are some grounds to believe that a very strange pheanomenon called „the behavioral sink“ is about to be happing (or is already in action).
I honestly think Luigi Mangione united people across parties more than the plight of the Gazan people. Hamas being the Palestinian leader has def made it hard for some people to sympathize with Palestinians, without knowing much of the history with the IDF. Luigi, however, is uniting people across EVERYTHING except class. You don't need to be educated on the healthcare system to know its fucked, whereas I'd argue most Americans, even with extensive reading, will never fully grasp the depth of a conflict happening so far away and for SO much longer than any of us have been alive.
The "plight" of the Gazan people is that they are lead by Hamas and Hizbollah. If they would accept co-existence as has Egypt they could have a peaceful and prosperous place to live. Egypt, you will note is not sending its young men to die. It is not burning precious resources on endless wars. Egypt is doing just fine. Time to give up on the never-ending fight. Time marches on; things change. You can't stop history.
i very much agree that luigi mangione is a rallying bastion for all of the (non bootlicking) middle class, but the insinuated depth of the conflict should not be the same. israeli people, no matter how much you hate them, were 'given' the land by the british; they had no more reason to believe that their given ancestral land was false than you assume a birthday gift was stolen. no matter how much israel hated the palestinians, they never openly attacked until they were attacked first. in recent times, israel-hamas conflicts have only been about israel being provoked by hamas, whether through kidnappings or rocket strikes. israel, like every other country, has a responsibility to protect her citizens; if you were taken by north korea, for example, would you not feel safer knowing that the full military force of your homeland was out to protect you? would this not deter possible deaths of innocent citizens? i agree that dragging innocents into this struggle is horrible on both sides, but i cannot support a terrorist group. i have donated to aid foundations sending food to palestinians, but some people online seem to think that just because hamas is getting beaten down that it was somehow undeserved when they had kidnapped equally-innocent israeli citizens from their homes
@@kansashoneybadger7899Funny thing, we can blame Israel for Hamas and its awful doings. They supported it to undermine the secular Palestinian Liberation Organization, to divide Palestine and advance themselves in the West Bank. So, being attacked was kind of the country's own fault.
@yuzuflavoredmochi lmfao "its okay to do a genocide if they started it" isn't really the mic drop gotcha moment you think it is. We are talking about Palestians, not Hamas. Fun fact - the last time Palestinians had an election was in 2006. Fun fact 2 - The british just sort of decided that Israel was going to be a thing despite the fact that hundreds of thousands of arabs already lived there. Hundred of thousands of Palestinians died or were forced from their homes after Israel declared statehood. Since then, Palestinians have had their land and property taken, their movement controlled, their families separated. Israel has built settlements in East Jeruselum and the West Bank that are illegal under international law. The UN has declared it an apartheid state. Tell me, friend, what would you do if you were forced out of you home because some country you'd never even been to said so, then when you reluctantly obeyed the same people who forced you out were now expanding into the little scraps of land they let you have, were controlling your movement with checkpoints, instituted a judicial system that discriminated against you because the country that took your home wasn't following the rules they set, makes it illegal for you to even enter their country (which again, used to be yours so some of your friends and family probably still live there), refuses to allow you citizenship, puts your entire community under military rule when those illegally occupying they scraps of land you were given are under their own judicial law, and treats you like you're sub human. Now imagine a group comes out and says "Hey, this sucks. We need this to stop and we're going to do something about it." What do you do, Yuzu Flavored Mochi? Do you continue to have your rights trampled on and live like literal animals, or do you at least let this group try to help you? Because thats what happened in 2006, which again was the last time they had an election, after half a century of military rule, constant warfare and invasion, and having everything taken away from them. There is a difference between Hamas and Palestinians, just like there's a difference between the Israeli government and Jewish people, just like there's a difference between US citizens and the president. Do you have this same energy for Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, or any of the other warzones the US has started under the guide of spreading democracy? Or is institutional violence and genocide only OK when you agree with the cause? No one is asking you to support a terrorist group, but that doesn't mean you support a genocide. Those aren't the only two options, Yuzu Flavored Mochi.

People often compare USA to empires of old. But to be honest the world is different and much nuanced one. The best example of what America's collapse would look like, is Britain. I think much attention isn't paid to what's happening with the Uk at the moment. Also the collapse could be less drastic, and USA can just stop putting up military bases across the world, and continue thriving economically like Netherlands. Which was once a global empire too, they simply decided to focus internally rather than try to project their might on everyone. Both are examples of how America can end up. Struggling like the UK, Portugal of Spain. Or soaring like Netherlands
the u.s. relies on the dollar being not only the world's reserve currency, but also being the currency needed for oil and for basically all international trade. therfore there's a disproportionatly huge international demand for u.s. government debt. when the dollar loses its importance the u.s. will lose their economic power and the government might either go bankrupt or have zimbabwe like inflation. the netherlands are not an option.
Well, do not forget that the Netherlands are a vassal state of the US-Israel tandem. Also, the Netherlands suffers from some of the same issues as the US. I.e. Declining middle class, declining wealth, elite politics, blaming immigration (like in the UK also), declining quality of the educational system, surging ultra right wing sentiment (an ultra right wing party in the government, worse than in the US, btw), surging cost of living, increasing real estate(and rent) prices, beating downward (blaming the vulnerable) in stead of upward, claiming to defend free speech while using force against it. So, it depends on what you call a soaring state. To some people (politicians mostly) it looks more like floating in a cesspool in stead of soaring in the sky. At least, that is what the politicians make it look like. In a way, a self fulfilling prophecy, because in their ardent endeavor to make things better, they actually make it worse. Keep beating downward and see what happens. Crush the base of your society and see what happens.
The only reason why the Netherlands can thrive economically. Is because the US has those military bases all across the world. The true purpose of those bases isn't to wage world wide war 24/7. The true purpose is to secure and protect international trade routes. Unless India voluntarily takes on that multi billion dollar responsibility. The U.S. is going to have to keep on spending hundreds of billions to guard that trade.
I feel like the impact of external issues is an important part of these stories. The Ottomans being attacked and divied up by the West, the US pulling the USSR into Aghanistan ("the graveyard of empires") after decades of cold war, or Rome being attacked by Germanic tribes. Obviously internal weakness is a key factor, but I felt the explanations given felt a little incomplete
When i was a child the amount of times Hollywood lied to me. And me thinking of the American dream my mom would say the dream isn't there anymore. And she is right.

The economical decline of the USSR was a secondary issue. The true decline of the USSR had to with the overbureaucrarization and monolithic nature of the Communist Party. The Managerial elite ruled their own sectors of the economy and exploited it to their benefit, notably the military and security services. The second the USD is seperated from the Oil industry, something that BRICS is trying very hard to do, the US Economy will plummet into an infinite recession that'll force us to abandon all of our military bases globally and liquidate our military like what the Soviets states had to do post fall.
@@Ethanol_3726 What a braindead claim. Having a deficit never meant that at all; the US had over a 100% debt-to-GDP ratio at the time when it was at its wealthiest; post-W W 2. That by itself doesn't mean anyhing, especially when every other nation has similar issues. China's, for example, has been calculated to be around 200% debt-to-GDP, and nobody is claiming that they are going to "c o l l a p s e" from that. You guys have zero clue about what you're talking about.
A life lesson here in the USA. Being a former renter but now a property owner, my property earns me wealth I have discovered in many interesting ways. I now recognize that rent is basically slavery to own no property but to create wealth for oligarchic landlords.
The properties are built so terribly now and cost so much that some people are being driven into poverty to maintain them. Buying property can still be a risk for some but good thing in your case it sounds like that it not the case.
I disagree. Have been renting for years. What renting gives you is freedom to get up and go. This works well for me. Investing in a rental property is always a bit of a gamble. If it worked out for everyone, everyone would be doing it. I've seen it succeed and fail in equal measure.
Yet, if the government wants your land to build a railroad, you'd have to move, because you own the house, not the land, which is why you still have to pay taxes on your "property" which incidentally if you fail to pay it can also be taken from you.
as far as I know being a politician requires you to have a considerable ammount of wealth to begin with so, respectfully, liberals or democrats, they vote for the exact same thing anyway, no matter their beliefs

You're crazy for sure. America can never be invaded or destroyed like Babylon. Even if America becomes poor and broke, it still has the power to end the whole world with the push of a button. That kind of power has never EVER been seen before in human history. You can compare empires that used bows and arrows and swords to each other all you want, but humanity has crossed the nuclear threshold. There is no going back from that. Look at the Soviet Union for an example of what happens when a modern empire "collapses". Russia still threatens everyone with doom, even after its collapse. This is what would happen to America as well.
@ You think the possibility of another great depression along with food insecurity, famine, poverty, possibility of our allies dropping us due to our association with war criminals, and ecological storms increases due to global warming isn’t considered a collapse? I think it’s going to take 2025-2028 for it to happen not 100 years. Florida will be under water. The coasts will experience more intense hurricanes. California will probably split further. The tornadoes will start moving South East as they have been doing. You can say I’m full of shit but observational analysis is not a joke.
It is already falling. As an immigrant who lived in the US from 2004 to 2016. I can confidently say America has fallen. 911 was just the beginning as Americans lost their rights and were treated like second class citizens through TSA and endless unjust wars that were not declared through congress. One can even go back further and say that America fell when the dollar was decoupled from gold. In the 50's a US citizen with a high school diploma could afford a 5 bedroom house, 2 cars and 5 kids out through college without loans. Today even with a PHD you are likely going to struggle with loans and will not easily afford the same lifestyle that people enjoyed 70 years ago. In the Next 5 years life will change suddenly even for the millionaires. As it is , population collapse is inevitable, and the long term investors are avoiding countries that would experience a strong population decline. The world is changing, the future growth will be in regions with resources and a strong population growth.

Im American. I agree that America is in decline. I blame greed, wealthy people constantly creating inflation and using compound interest to cage people in long term debt. Government dysfunction also. Religion also. Divorce and subsequent lack of discipline of our youths. This latter has caused an entire generation of people to emerge as con artists. All of this causes anger, resentment, and a Zomby Limbo we are ALL now trapped in. No way out of it.
Youth lacking discipline is not really true. The world is on fire and they are protesting. XR, BLM, Gaza etc, the really big issues. The thing is, like this movieclip explained, they have no future in the world of capitalism. The youth is not the problem, they are thee victims. You claim con artists emerged, like that happened recently, but these puppet players have been around since the Mayflower arrived in 1609. Good overall analysis, but keep in mind, Soviet military spending was accelerated in response to Reagan deliberately increasing the US military threats in the 80’s. The USSR tried to spend its way out of the threat, unfortunately taking money away from social programs. But main reason for the dissolution of the USSR was not citizen discontent. Publicly owned companies had been increasingly run by an elite who happily agreed to mass privatization, buying up public assets for pennies on the dollar, becoming millionaires overnight. The rot and subsequent betrayal came not from the people but from the elite bureaucrats. The dissolution was illegal and ordinary citizens had no say. Every time I tell people about America, I reference the Roman Empire. People think I'm insane, but I see so many similarities. If you talk to many Americans, they think they are the greatest in all the world. We must never think we are inherently superior to anyone else. When people become too arrogant bad things happen. America is still holding onto the fear that the rest of the world has because of WW2 and dropping bombs. At some point that will all go away and America will just be a hugely in debt country that cannot hold on anymore. Reminds me of Enron. By all metrics, the US should not exist as it currently does. The American economy is in the red, running on a deficit that is bordering on bankruptcy. Why hasn't that occurred yet? Because of the monopoly that the US has on the petrodollar, the US is shifting it's debt onto other nations and that's why the country can infinitely print money and ignore the blatant decay surrounding it. With federations like BRICS, this does not look good for the US and considering that most nations have seen how the US loves sanctions and weaponizing global banking against its enemies, why would rulers feel inclined to sink even further into a possible relationship that could turn out very abusive for them?

Understanding history is important not just to aid critical analysis of the present but also as a personal enrichment exercise. That said, it is huge - it's literally the entirety of human existence up until now. It is impossible to not selectively teach/learn it and somebody must do the selecting.

You are exactly correct. That is the worst part and people should try to organize around mutual aid support in every community that they live because we KNOW that the hardest hit will be the lower classes, the working class and the other vulnerable populations, not the extreme rich.
We need to build together a better society that can replace capitalism.

As Socialism believes that the power should be with the people, for the benefit of people, it becomes easier for public businesses to exist, which increases the amount of competition in the economy, which means lower prices as those businesses price to compete with corporations, forcing corporations to lower their prices. Less competition means maximized price gouging.

If I can get that I will ignore your annoying habits and you will ignore mine, see you in the grocery store and the laundry.
It’s the basic requirement- be kind to each other.

American led rule of the entire world has only begun. Our destiny is to harvest the power of the stars.
We need this to stop and we're going to do something about it."
What do you do, Yuzu Flavored Mochi?

The LBC (London Banking Cartel/IMF) Empire Never Fell...it just rebranded and relocated.

The US empire has been incredibly powerful in the scope of its reach and the level of power it wields. That said, it’s been very short lived.
It’s also been a meat grinder for a majority of our species. Founded on probably the most complete genocide and conquest of land in modern history, its economy built on the backs of enslaved African people.
The Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Southeast Asia have been plundered of resources and exploited for labor. The people have been subject to all manner of subversion, oppression and slaughter both directly by the US and covertly by its gendarme states.
The astronomical wealth accumulated by its capitalist class has relied on all this AND the endless, wanton extraction of natural resources to the point of precipitating a complete ecological catastrophe that will destroy civilized human life as we know it.

@@stephenjenkins7971 The US economy is running on a deficit, that's the first sign of any nation collapsing. Now, ask yourself this, how can the US afford to burn money whilst teetering on the edge of bankruptcy? Simple, we get everybody else to pay for our debt. The second the USD is seperated from the Oil industry, something that BRICS is trying very hard to do, the US Economy will plummet into an infinite recession that'll force us to abandon all of our military bases globally and liquidate our military like what the Soviets states had to do post fall.

A life lesson here in the USA. Being a former renter but now a property owner, my property earns me wealth I have discovered in many interesting ways. I now recognize that rent is basically slavery to own no property but to create wealth for oligarchic landlords.
How did you discover ?
The properties are built so terribly now and cost so much that some people are being driven into poverty to maintain them. Buying property can still be a risk for some but good thing in your case it sounds like that it not the case.
Maybe most never get the opportunity!

Money invested is far better than money saved, when you invest it gives you the opportunity to increase your financial worth.
What's amazing is how much bigger and more complex it's gotten. Now, companies can raise billions by going public, and instead of just funding ships, we're talking about funding everything from tech innovations to renewable energy
But for most people, myself included, the stock market can feel a bit overwhelming. There's so much information out there, and it's hard to know where to start
The market's so big now, with thousands of companies trading, and then there are all the different types of stocks-growth, value, blue-chip, and let's not even get into all the market indexes like the S&P 500 and Bitcoin It's a lot to wrap your head around

Okay, all empires fall... The scariest and the saddest thing is, the empire will definitely fight and will not just sit there waiting for its fall... that's when destruction occurs and many victims fall everywhere.
It might not! Why fighting when you don't even have the means or when you know the opponent is far more powerful

Good video, gross blind spot with regard to chattel slavery, de jure and de facto domestic apartheid, and the prison industrial complex. @lettuceman9439 No, for what is now Mx, it would be Olmecas. But there are probably older civilizations preserved in the north.
For China, start with the Xia dynasty (IIIrd millennial BC).
And again, as for what is now called Peru, the oldest civilization known there is Caral. 3rd millenium BCE also. But it's not the only one there older and longer-lasting than the Roman empire.
Iran/Persia is Anshan (4th millennium BCE).

I don't see the US collapsing anytime in the next 30 years, or even 50. The other 2 rival empires (Russia, China) have far, far more daunting problems than the US (chief among them demographics, and far fewer allies). I DO, however, see the US gradually reducing its global footprint in the next couple of decades as they re-shore manufacturing (bad for China) and lose interest in being the sole naval force ensuring global free trade (again, bad for China, and everyone else). I also see it turning more authoritarian, with increasingly worse public education and more income inequality (all but the top quintile will get dumber and poorer). It will become a crappier place to live, for sure, but it's not going to collapse any time soon.
The US? Ensuring global free trade? Pffffft.
talk about demographics, your birth rates are plummeting and you are being slowly replaced by other nations. So year your end is near. Denial isn't healthy.
You're one of those delusional people that think US is still powerful lol. This is what happened when you're constant being brainwashed by Western media and doesn't know anything else outside of that. This is also what lead you to believe Russia and China have daunting problems more than US.
@@dekooks1543 you see, there's this really neat little trick that the US does, and has done since its very inception: immigration. Quite amazing, really. Even as birth rates of native-born Americans go down, the population keeps growing, the economy keeps booming stronger than any other on Earth, and there's no shortage of people on this planet who want a piece of that pie, which means we can be choosy about who comes over. If you think that is "being replaced by other nations", then you have zero understanding of how we came to be. There's no such thing genealogically as an "American", our genealogical roots come from Britain, Germany, Mexico, Poland, Ireland, Italy, India, Pakistan, Kenya, Nigeria, Palestine, Lebanon, China, Japan, etc... and yes, quite many from Russia & Ukraine.
In that respect, the Soviet elites throwing of the vast majority of the workers under the bus is similar to the US today.
Also, the USSR consistently support anti colonial struggles around the world - Vietnam, Algeria, Cuba, Korea, Africa, etc. Not what you would expect from a country you describe as an “imperial power”.

There are many democracies that are better than the USA on metrics such as free and fair elections, checks and balances on the power of elected officials, independent public institutions to enact legislation (making the laws is the job of elected officials), an independent judiciary, separation of church and state, health care standards and education standards. I wish people would humble themselves, work hard and not be so greedy. There is only so much that 1 single person or one family needs. It should alarm you that actors and athletes make so much to entertain us. Too much money in certain areas when it can be spread around more to help more people.
Have you considered moving to Cuba? I heard they have a system that redistributes wealth evenly.
People predicted the American empire was falling in the Vietnam days. Only for her to win the cold war. This is highly ahistorical
